In 1961, a diverse group of student activists organized a movement called Freedom Riders to challenge racial segregation in Southern states. Their strategy was to ride busses into cities with segregation laws and deliberately break them. For instance, white students would use colored only restrooms, while black students would sit at white only food counters. The hope was that, when confronted by police, the federal government would be forced to step in and defend the students' constitutional rights. On many occasions, these demonstrations were met with violent behavior from locals, including beatings and a firebombing. Ultimately, these Freedom Riders helped lead to the abolishment of segregation by bringing national attention to the injustices of segregation. While touring, the Freedom Riders would collectively perform songs with messages about freedom and justice. One participant, African -American preacher Rev. Robert Wesby, reimagined the lyrics of the hymn Woke Up this Mornin' by replacing the name Jesus with freedom in each refrain. On June 13, 2010 the capsule from the Hayabusa satellite successfully returned to earth after enduring a grueling six billion kilometer, seven year journey to retrieve samples from the Hayabusa meteor. Composer Satoshi Yagisawa was asked to write a piece to commemorate this momentous occasion. Fanfare - HAYABUSA’s premiere was so successful that the piece was performed a second time in response to the audience’s standing ovation. Out of this World! It was composed while Bach was at Weimar, to a libretto by the Weimar Court Preacher Salomon Franck. Its subject matter is the testimony of John the Baptist addressed to the Christian community and to individual believers. Since the original concluding chorale, the fifth verse of the hymn Herr Christ der einig Gotts Sohn (Elisabeth Cruziger), has been lost, here the cantata ends with the last movement (transposed from B flat to A major), to the same words, of the cantata BWV 164. On the broadcast of the film From Dusk Till Dawn, the following note could be read in Gong (German radio and television programme guide) on 21 May: The gangsters Seth (George Clooney) and Richard Gecko (Quentin Tarantino) are on the run. On their way to Mexico, they take the apostate preacher Fuller and his children hostage. On their journey, they end up in Titty Twister Bar, not suspecting that it is peopled by vampires. Well, after deducting some film junk, some typical elements remain: what is past and over, constant new dramatic pair constellations, what is dead and constantly reawakening, the transformations, the troubles and destructions, the final annihilation teeming with destruction etc. Basically, it is a myth of ruin, in whose structure the elements are interchangeable. It could also be told with a coherent material concept, in a historically obsolete manner, in an old-fashioned way, with non-compensation, with flaring abolition yes, does everything always work??? It is good that it only takes place in a bar and that the bar invites us into Titty Twister in attractive neon writing. Restless nature and beauty are at home in the bar today. That facilitates for us the effortlessness of having fun in life. Each title is presented in two ways. The first version of the work arrangement for piano with all fingering and figuring included. The second version present the elementary theme along with the origianl harmonic figuring which is the 'raw material' used for composing all arrangements. By using these two versions, pianists will be able to analyze the melodic and harmonic improvements added to the piano arrangement, as well as practice their own improvisations on the themes. Piano teachers will also find in this volume a good basic repertory to introduce Jazz to their students. The playful aspect is added to this anthology by way of the midi-files which accompany the mixed CD (CD audio and CD rom) offering the possibility to listen to the pieces in midi by using the sound card of a computer. In addition, it is possible to change the sounds and teh tempo with appropriate equipement.
