Choral Soprano I, Soprano II, Alto I, Alto II SKU: PR.312418590 For Children's Choir and String Quartet. Composed by Chen Yi. Self Cover. Premiered by the SFGC and Cypress String Quartet, San Francisco Conservatory, CA. Secular choral. Vocal Score. With Standard notation. Composed 2010. 16 pages. Duration 15 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #312-41859. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.312418590). UPC: 680160595785. 8.5 x 11 inches. Text by Chen Yi. Often called the Ellis Island of the West, Angel Island in San Francisco was used as an immigration station in the first half of the 20th century, processing some one million Asian immigrants. Because of U.S. policy of the time, many spent years on Angel Island awaiting entry. Recently named a National Historical Landmark, Angel Island and its history is the inspiration behind Chen Yi's Angel Island Passages, commissioned by the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Chen explores the experiences of the immigrants, even using poems carved in the walls, to express the mood, the patient yearning, and the ultimate release and embrace of a new country. Angel Island Passages was premiered June 4-5, 2010 by the SFGC and the Cypress String Quartet at the San Francisco Conservatory. For advanced performers. Duration: 15'. Commissioned by San Francisco Girls Chorus (Executive Director Melanie Smith), and premiered by the SFGC and Cypress String Quartet on June 4, 2010, conducted by SFGC’s Artistic Director Susan McMane, at San Francisco Conservatory, CA, the 3-movement song cycle Angel Island Passages is written for children’s chorus and string quartet, with multimedia projection on the walls of the concert hall, produced by visual artist Felicia Lowe. The creative idea of this work was initiated by Dr. McMane, who invited me to write the music, and sent me the book “Island, poetry and history of Chinese Immigrants on Angel Island, 1910-1940â€, by Him Mark Lai, Genny Lim, and Judy Yung for reference in 2009; also inspired by the Angel Island stories, and through cooperation with Felicia, who shared with me her film “Carved in Silence†and video productions “Chinatown†and “Road to Restorationâ€.I named the first movement of my work as “1882â€, which reflected the dark mood under the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The collective poems carved on the wooden walls in Angel Island expressed deep emotion in sorrow and anxiety. The music in the second movement “Longing†is sad and sentimental. The third movement is called “We Are Americaâ€, which is ever-moving, energetic and optimistic. The text sung in the beginning in Chinese means “I am an Americanâ€. It’s sung in Cantonese dialect, then in Mandarin. As the music develops, from homophonic to polyphonic with increasing layers, the climax is reached when the text is turned to English “We Are Americaâ€, which symbolizes the flourishing society with the great contribution from thousands of immigrants during the years. The music fades out towards the ending of the work, which pushes the scene to a remote picture, to look forward to the future peace of the world.I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such inspiring creative artists in this project, and hope the work is meaningful to our new society after the premiere performance.—Chen Yi. $8.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Journey to the Centre of the Earth Concert band [Score] - Intermediate/advanced Gobelin Music Publications
Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 6 SKU: BT.GOB-000963-140 Voyage au Centr...(+)
Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 6 SKU: BT.GOB-000963-140 Voyage au Centre de la Terre. Composed by Harrie Janssen. Score Only. 120 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000963-140. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000963-140). This composition was based on the world-famous novel by the French author Jules Verne. This novel describes the attempt to reach the centre of the earth. The descent of the crater of the volcano called Snaeffels, situated in Iceland, marks thebeginning of this voyage to the sublunary world. The German geologist, professor Lidenbrock, is accompanied on this trip by his nephew Axel and an Icelandic guide named Hans. The last mentioned will be helpful in many occasions.
Dark colors & mist
The composer tried in this single work to give a musical expression to various significant moments from this novel. In the introduction he sketches an image of the dismal ambience on the island by using dark colors. Risingfragments of mist reveal the flanks of the monumental mountain Scataris. The composer tries to catch this image in a majestic and broad chorale.
Away from Iceland
Subsequently the ostinato rhythmicity and virtuosity representthe hectic descent of the crater of the volcano. The party descends ever more and more and travels south, away from Iceland. On the way, they see all kinds of rock formations, fossils and minerals. At a depth of thirty hours walking distance, atabout 150 kilometers below the surface, they reach a sub terrestrial sea which is called the Lidenbrock sea.
Genuine eruption of sounds
Strange electric manifestations and unpredictable weather conditions accompany thissingular phenomenon. An orchestral tutti-episode expresses this impression musically. On a make-shift raft, the party continues its voyage, heading to the south coast of this huge sea. Once ashore, an enormous rock obstructs the passage. The blowingup of this obstacle unleashes a genuine eruption of sounds in the orchestration.
Spat out by the volcano
But the explosion has an unforeseen side effect. The sea - travelers and raft included - is sucked upwards into a dark hole.Again, our heroes are accompanied on their involuntary voyage, while left to fend for themselves, by an ever increasing ostinato rhythmicity.
Before an irruption can destroy the raft, the threesome manages to escape and climb up through acave towards the daylight. They seem to be spat out by the Stromboli volcano on the island of Sicily, far from home. The composition ends with triumphant sounds that represent the scientific triumph of these adventurers.
$58.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

| Quartet Sant Petersburg String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello Editorial de Musica Boileau
String quartet SKU: BO.B.3664 Composed by Jordi Cervello. Published by Ed...(+)
String quartet SKU: BO.B.3664 Composed by Jordi Cervello. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3664). Cuarteto San Petersburgo (The Saint Petersburg Quartet) was written between January and March 2011. It owes its name to the fact that Saint Petersburg has been a very significant city for me. I was invited there in 1988 to take part in a big contemporary music festival, but my uninterrupted bond with the city started on 2002, thanks to the negotiations of my friend and pupil Albert Barbeta. Since then, I have constantly travelled there in order to record a considerable part of my repertoire: seventeen pieces. In addition to the concerts we went to, I took the opportunity during my trips to visit the well-known conservatoire where so many great personalities from the world of music composition once taught, and the place that launched the most important violin school in the whole of Russia: the school of Leopoldo Auer. Spending a long time in Auer's classroom writing my concert for violin and orchestra was an unforgettable experience for me. His large portrait motivated me even further.
Cuarteto San Petersburgo evokes many of the most cherished and moving moments that I have had in this city. It is structured in four movements. The first one, Allegretto-Allegro, opens with an introduction that sets forth the two main themes, amid a soft and elastic atmosphere. The Allegro starts vigorously and in it we find changes in the tempo and moments of mystery, as well as certain seclusion, returning then to the emphatic theme where the counterpoint finds its place. The movement ends placidly.
The Scherzo-marcato that follows is marked by a persistent rhythm of triplets that carries on from beginning to end. The tempo does not change, but brief and decided themes are introduced, as well as passages of counterpoint. Brief and dissonant chords are heard throughout the movement, which ends vigorously.
The third movement, Ut, is a very special one. For a while already I had been playing with the idea of writing a movement that was to have the tonality C as a leitmotiv. This one is made up by two slow and static parts. In the first one, the first violin plays pizzicatti-glissandi. In the second, the first violin and particularly the violoncello settle on C while the other two instruments produce descending chromatic harmonies.
Finally, the Introduccion-Presto (the Introduction-Presto). It starts with some bucolic passages which remind us of the introduction to the first movement. A fast and energetic Presto suddenly erupts. A kind of moto perpetuo which alternates with two expressive passages and, towards the end, a viola and violoncello tremolo, all of great mystery and expectation, make way for a resounding finale marcato. $38.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Trumpet [Quartet] SKU: HL.14036190 Composed by Niels Rosing-schow. Music Sales America. 20th Century. Score. Music Sales #KP00704. Published by Music Sales (HL.14036190). ISBN 9788759854013. Danish. Windgeboren belongs to a group of works in which musical conceptions are nourished by the wind as a gathering metaphor of the perceptible but invisible natural forces behind the music. In addition to this image a number of other impressions have arisen during the process of composition which have to some extent left their mark on the three strongly contrasting movements, for example, wind and spirit are said to be expressed by the same word in Hebrew. The archangel Michael is portrayed as the weigher of souls in many wonderful Danish frescos. Saint Michael in the role of standard-bearer and soul leader performs in the offertorium of the Requiem Mass. He leads the souls toward clarity, the holy light, the tripartition: beginning - middle - conclusion; birth - life - death; intonation - passage - hymn. This work is dedicated to Die Michaelstrompeter and Markus Stockhausen. $21.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

More than my earlier works, this one is interspersed with metrically bound rhythms and musicianly characters that constantly recrystallize and drift towards or away from familiar situations. The familiar: These are dance-like figures and music-making formulas, but also songs and, in two cases fragments of Bach's music - playfully collected memories of impressions in which - consciously and unconsciously - I am embodied with that collective comfort in whose protection bourgeois thinking and feeling, magically protected, grow up and emerge apart.(It is well known that such security has its fetishes from the childlike to the adult stage: Home, religious bond, holidays, tradition, longing for childhood - the superficiality may have little idea of the depth that opens up underneath. There is also no question that we are still marked by such security even when the contradictions and alienation of existence force us to step out of their protection, to recognize and act upon reality, and to oppose the domination of such inner bonds where their original truth has become the fatal untruth of comfortable illusion, stubbornly and fearfully conjured idyll and reactionary narrow-mindedness.My music feeds on figures in which such memories are encapsulated. It deals with them not much differently than in other pieces with the elements of the traditional musical concept of material, having already always reflected compositionally as a product of sociality and anticipation of musical expression, i.e. it moved into a structurally expanded context and expressively redefined from there.Such an approach aims at overcoming lack of freedom: grasping as part of conceiving, i.e. not philosophical reflection, but rather an artistically gripping reflex by intervening in the physical immediacy of such predetermined elements. These penetrate and infect the structural events, inducing a musicianship that cannot be relied upon; the music jumps onto rhythms like onto moving vehicles, allows for being carried by them until they deform or disintegrate. This creates an incline of rhythmically shaped situations: sequence and interweaving of dances and structures. The role of the solo string quartet is versatile, obbligato and concertante, leading and accompanying in a changing sense. Set as a chamber music apparatus in an orchestral landscape, it repeatedly forces its own sound dimensions onto the orchestra, it must accept being drowned out at times, it nests in the holes of tutti fields, it acts as a louse in the fur, forcing one to listen in and out.The Tanzsuite with Deutschlandlied is structured as follows:I. Section. 1. Introduction - 2. Waltz - 3. March - 4. Bridge -II. Section. 5. Siciliano - 6. Capriccio - 7. Valse lente -III. Section. 8. Bridge - 9. Gigue - 10. Tarantelle - 11. Bridge -IV. About the WorkThe text of this work is most often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, although it doesn't mirror his style, and no research credits an essay, book or letter with its source. Other individuals are occasionally suggested as possible authors, but equally unsubstantiated. Even whether the textis a poem or a quote seems unclear. But there is one thing that is without question: that this beloved text has inspired countless people and contributed toward a view of the world through eyes of hope, resilience, courage, beauty, and joy. Music for this text flowed more easily than about any text I have ever set. It has an emotional connection that is mystical, and after I read it for the first time, I immediately sat down and wrote this work without stop.Rehearsal NotesIn many cases, art is more expressive and reaches a wider range of human emotions when multiple artistic fields are fused together. Such is the case with choral music: the intertwining of literature, music, and very often dance, visual arts, and more. The story in choral music is often quite specific, much like film scoring. At times, the music is the picture frame (score) around the picture (text), while at others the music is the leading dramatic/emotional impetus. In the present case (My Farewell Wish), the text is sincere, innocent, heartfelt, and earnest. By all accounts, the message is altruistic, expressing selfless desire for another's present/future happiness. Capturing this message has a strong reliance on the performers to not only carry the emotional intent of the moment (a phrase of text or a measure), but the the energy and continuance of the message throughout. The use of the [o] vowel functions almost as instrumental interludes or underpinning of strings. The conductor may use the [o] as indicated in the score, or a [u] vowel, a hum (with [o] as the vowel inside the mouth), or all three at different times for different reasons. In an acoustical performance (no mic), the soloist and the ensemble are a reflection of each other's natural sound. And, even gentle, warm solo voices should have no trouble projecting. Two final thoughts: 1) the obbligato or added voice or two on high passages (m. 66) or a single note (final chord) will be best delivered by lyrical, pure voices with demonstrated control; and 2) the metronome marking of 80 bpm (mm. 1–81) was strongly considered and should be followed.About the ComposerZ. Band concert band - Grade 2 SKU: CF.YPS258 Composed by William Harbinson. Set of Score and Parts. Carl Fischer Music #YPS258. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YPS258). ISBN 9781491163580. UPC: 680160922376. Homeward is a lyrical ballad in ABA form. The composition presents few rhythmic challenges, allowing the ensemble to concentrate on beauty of sound, balance, dynamic nuance, phrasing, and expressive performance. The woodwind voices present the melody at the opening accompanied by a flute countermelody. Care should be taken to balance the two parts. The four-measure phrases call for tapered dynamics and freedom of the metric pulse at cadence points. A change of tempo and key, with a lean toward the minor mode, mark the contrasting B section (m. 9). Heed the dynamic markings that swell to a climax (m. 16) and then subside within this section. Take liberty to hold back the tempo at the percussion link to the forte restatement of A (m. 27) and the arrival of the fortissimo climax (m. 33). The coda (m. 35) should be presented slowly and serenely as the composition comes to a quiet close. $65.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

SKU: GI.G-CD-887 Narrated by Liam Lawton. Composed by Liam Lawton. Sacred. CD. GIA Publications #887. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-CD-887). In his new CD, Prayers of Hope and Healing, Liam Lawton combines selections from his popular book The Hope Prayer (G-7823, $21.95) with his original melodies, newly orchestrated by Mark Cahill. The prayers and reflections included on this recording deal with many of life's recurrent themes—joy, sorrow, growing old, birth, death, and loss, to name but a few. Each of these prayers is an invitation to enter into the beauty of God's presence, encouraging the listener to persist in prayer beyond the final notes of each supplication into their own distinctive dialogue with God. This CD makes a great gift for anyone in need of healing prayer. It is perfect for reflection in the different “sanctuaries†of our lives-places like the car, the office, or even amidst nature during a quiet walk or respite under a tree, a blanket of stars, or the sun-drenched sky. Reflect on one prayer everyday. Use them in prayer services, private devotions, public prayer, or small Christian communities. Author and composer Lawton reads each reflection himself, his gentle delivery and rich vocal timbre breathe compassion and life into these expressive words of inspiration and hope—lighting a pathway to peace and shepherding the soul toward rest. $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
| String Quartet in A minor, op. 132 String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello Barenreiter
String quartet (2V,Va,Vc) SKU: BA.TP00932 Composed by Ludwig van Beethove...(+)
String quartet (2V,Va,Vc) SKU: BA.TP00932 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Edited by Jonathan Del Mar. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Barenreiter Urtext. Study score. Opus 132. Baerenreiter Verlag #TP00932_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.TP00932). ISBN 9790006203130. 22.5 x 16.5 cm inches. Key: A minor. Preface: Donat, Misha. After years of several personal and creative crises, the last two years of Beethoven's life were marked by an irrepressible creative urge that was directed almost exclusively towards the string quartet genre.
Of all these late works, it is the Quartet in A minor op. 132 that most impressively addresses the overcoming of the depression of the past years. The middle of the five movements is aCanzona di ringraziamentoentitled:Holy Song of Thanksgiving of a recovered person to the deity in the Lydian key.
In this movement a slow introduction is followed by the heading:Feeling renewed strength. Due to the middle movement full ofdivine power, this string quartet is certainly one of Beethoven's most emotional compositions.
For this new edition of the Quartet op. 132, Beethoven specialist Jonathan Del Mar consulted the autograph as well as several sets of parts corrected by Beethoven, enabling him to correct countless inconsistencies and unconvincing editorial decisions of previous editions.

At a time when I had not written a single note for several months, doubting if I would ever write anything again, her interest and energy was the cause of new inspiration. Just asimportant was her special way of playing - with intellect, heart and a rare, delicate sensibility. Her personality and musicianship struck a chord in me, in my music, which gave my thoughts a new direction. The violin concerto marks a change in my music towards a simpler and lighter expression. An expression that also contains detached glimpses from my childhood's endless summers by the North Sea. Birds, high and slow on a blue sky, and the evening quietly descending. The special light, the distant sounds. But also the confusion, repetitions and dead ends of the world. An expression that, more than in my previous music, is 'About Light and Lightness.' - Rune Glerup, 2021†Instrumentation: vn; 2(pic).2.3(Ebcl).2/4.3.2(btbn).0/pf/str. $35.00 - See more - Buy online
