Invictus: A Passion addresses one of the worldââ¬â¢s most powerful stories through the lens of the modern world. The texts, written or inspired by women, describe not only human suffering and persecution but also the human capacity for love and humility in the face of tyranny. Composer Howard Goodall is uniquely suited to bring these texts to life with music of emotional clarity and sweeping force. This excerpt is scored for SATB (divisi) choir and piano. A text by Ãâ melia Lanyer (née Bassano) (ââ¬ÅWhy should unlawful actions use the Light?ââ¬Â) is set as a homophonic chorale with a supportive accompaniment. Duration 3:32.

Courage, tolerance and conciliation - this is the message of a sweet and sharp, thrilling love story. Based loosely on Shakespeare and his famous tragedy Romeo and Juliet, a prince, smitten with love, and a courageous baroness bring foreign cultures and two hostile families together in a dramatic happy end. Musically, Konig Keks thrives on contrasts: Whereas the music of Krokantia borrows from the world of operetta, the music of the Chili islands is fiery and rhythmic. On the one hand, a small salon orchestra, and on the other a band produce a diversified sound. An experienced pianst can accompany a performance of the piece alone. Konig Keks offers ample musical as well as scenic performance possibilities for people of all ages.

Originally, it took four to tango. Dorff's sultry, slinky tango began life as a quartet (available for string quartet, string quintet, string orchestra, or for quartets of clarinets, bassoons, saxophones). This piece breaks beyond that restriction to become an enjoyable trio. Although arranged for Allen Krantz in this version, the technical demands do not require the skill level of Allen Krantz to pull it off. It Takes Four to Tango is now simply a delightful dance for two.

The sparkling music from Soweto (South Africa) has a long history. The rhythmic dances of Kwela, the 'syncopated guitars' of Mbaqanga, the saxophones and trumpets with their supple African jazz sounds as well as the infectious and sometimes gripping choir singing. All these elements can be recognized when listening to the 'Soweto String Quartet', which in its turn inspired Peter Martin to write 'Soweto Swing'.

I have been very fortunate and professionally blessed to have five wonderful woodwind colleagues at Arizona State University: Elizabeth Buck, flute; Christopher Creviston, saxophone; Joshua Gardner, clarinet; Martin Schuring, oboe; and, Robert Spring, clarinet. Together, we presented numerous woodwind recitals featuring all six of us in various combinations of duos, trios, quartets, and quintets. However, until now, we were never able to share the stage simultaneously. To remedy this, I arranged five movements of Stravinsky's Suite No. 1 and Suite No. 2 for Small Orchestra for the instrumentation of the ASU woodwind faculty. The source material is derived from Igor Stravinsky's Three Easy Pieces (1915) and Five Easy Pieces (1917). These compositions were written as four-hand piano educational pieces for Stravinsky's children. Stravinsky would play the more difficult accompaniments while his children played the simple melodies. Stravinsky composed arrangements of several movements using these short eight pieces, but the best-known arrangements are Suite No. 1 (1921) and Suite No. 2 (1925) for Small Orchestra. The five dance movements in Suite for Woodwind Sextet are true Stravinsky in their wit, charm, and humor.

German.
