My lecture of the Winterreise does not demand a new expressive interpretation, but instead systematically exercises the freedom which all interpreters allow themselves intuitively, such as: instrumental dilation i. e. acceleration of the pace, transposition into other keys and elaboration of characteristic color timbres. In addition, there are further ways of reading; the music; jumping around in the text, repeating certain lines, interrupting the continuity, comparing different expressions of the same phrase ... All these new possibilities are subjected to my compositional discipline and form autonomous formal processes which are imposed on Schuberts original. The transformation of the piano tones into a multifaceted orchestra full of resonance is only one of many aspects.(Hans Zender)CDs:Hans Peter Blochwitz (Tenor), Ensemble Modern, Conductor: Hans Zender CD BMG 9026-68067-2 Christoph Pregardien (Tenor), Klangforum Wien, Conductor: Sylvain Cambreling CD Kairos 0012002KAIJulien Pregardien (Tenor), Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Kaiserslautern, Conductor: Robert Reimer2 CD's P.RHEI (2016)Bibliography:Adam-Schmidmeier, Eva-Maria von: Schubert interpretieren. Schubert Lounge for Soprano, 2 Baritones and Ensemble was commissioned by Oslo Sinfonietta. Franz Schubert was a singer/songwriter, says Eivind Buene. A Schubertiade as a role model, the composer - who himself grew up with pop music - imagined Schubert in the singer/songwriter pose of the 70s: with a Fender Rhodes and the voice of a pop singer. So, he staged his first Schubert Lounges for his friends in Oslo. Inspired by one of these house concerts, baritone Halvor Mellen suggested Buene that they could work together as singers.Eivind Buene is interested in this friction between different aesthetics and different systems of thought. In the further developed Schubert Lounge, three different musical styles meet: Buene's own recontextualized version of Schubert songs, Halvor Mellen's interpretation of Buene's music composed for his voice based on fragments from Schubert's diary, and Tora Augestad's very personal interpretation of Schubert songs.

Nine of these volumes have already been published and provide the basis for this special sampler at a very special price. “A Taste of Schubert†presents one to three pieces from each volume to create a cross-section of Schubert’s complete lieder uvre. Lieder from his famous cycles are included as well as “Sehnsuchtâ€, of which he wrote several settings.Contrasting genres have also been taken into consideration, beginning with simple strophic songs, via the ballad “Der König von Thule†through to his long Ossian Lied “Cronnanâ€.
