The three sections of this piece need sensitive playing from the player, as each section highlights a different aspect of the oboe's character. The Prelude is serious and brooding in a minor key. The interlude is lighter, with beautiful flowing melody, often in canon with the right hand of the piano part. The Dance is lighthearted and entertaining, with almost the character of a folk dance. The piece was composed with an intermediate oboist in mind. The oboe part is very lyrical throughout the piece, and will require good breath control to ensure that the piece 'sings'.

Michael Haydn composed three of his masses in honor of the holy archangels - St Michael, St Gabriel, and the Raphaelismesse in honor of St Raphael now published. By avoiding the use of vocal soloists, it is one of the genre of Missa in pieno. Four trumpets and two ad lib oboe parts added later by the composer give the work a festive sound in the baroque tradition. At the same time, elements of the 'sensitive style' feature too. The Gloria and Credo exist in two settings, a short version with polytextual passages and a longer version arranged by Haydn himself. Motet of an unknown arranger (ca. 1820), based on th Adagio of the Serenade KV 361 (Gran Partita). The motet Quis te comprehendat, K-Anhang 110, is based on the Adagio in Mozart's Wind Serenade K. 361, the Gran Partita. The arrangement of this instrumental movement with the addition of a four-part choir deserves to be regarded as a successful example of the practice of parody, on a higher level than many less accomplished arrangements of the period. As in most of those cases the identity of the arranger is unknown, but his sensitive treatment of the original points to a gifted musician. Characteristic accompanying figures are given to the strings, while the solo violin and the organ appear melodically. The homophonic choral setting, whose Latin words are a religious song of praise with no specific liturgical connection, is based on the works harmonic substance. Buxtehude set the eight verses of the chorale, which Helmbold conceived as a song of thanks after a meal, in the form of a strophic hymn with instrumental interludes. His sensitive approach to the textual model emphasizes inner details of the hymn, the content of which extends far beyond a mere musical grace.
