Spring by Henri Tomassi is a wind sextet for Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Horn and Bassoon. This book includes the score for each instrument and the conductor?s score. Lasting 9 and a half minutes, this melodious piece is divided into three main parts and finishes on a Scherzando section. These three pieces musically describe the flirting process of birds in Spring. 1. Reveil des oiseaux / Birds wake up 2. Chant d?amour / Love song 3. Danse des oiseaux / Dance of the birds This piece is very difficult to play for all instruments involved, but simultaneously really nice and challenging. Henri Tomasi also composed a variety of concerti for Alto Saxophone and for Trombone, as well as some ballades..

Charles Camilleri (1931 - 2009) was a Maltese composer. As a teenager, he composed a number of works based on folk music and legends of his native Malta. He moved from his early influences by Maltese folk music to a musical form in which nothing is fixed and his compositions evolve from themselves with a sense of fluency and inevitability. He composed over 100 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and solo instruments. Camilleri's work has been performed throughout the world and his research of folk music and improvisation, the influences of the sounds of Africa and Asia, together with the academic study of European music, helped him create a universal style. Camilleri is recognized in Malta as one of the major composers of his generation. He died on 3 January 2009 at the age of 77. His funeral took place two days later at Naxxar, his long-time town of residence. Flags across Malta were flown at half-mast in tribute to him.

Composer Note: My Sextet for piano and winds was originally written for piano and string quartet. The first movement is filled with drama and passion. Its atmosphere can be seen to be related to my Second Symphony Johannes Angelos. The second movement is a set of polyphonic variations reminiscent of a passacaglia. The music seems to be hypnotized by a theme consisting of a chromatic cluster often notes. In the last movement, one at a time the winds find a new kind of music resembling fragments of a hymn at first hesitantly, but soon gaining in strength and confidence. Fast-moving triplets start to appear and the music reaches a joyful and ecstatic conclusion. -Olli Mustonen Content I. Drammatico e passionato II. Quasi una Passacaglia III. Finale.
