Der Komponist Rodolphe Haimann wurde 1960 in Arras (Frankreich) geboren. Er studierte Musikwissenschaft und Kunstgeschichte in Gottingen und danach Klavier (bei Agathe Wanek), Violine (bei Doris Spemann), Liedgestaltung (bei Burkhardt Schaeffer) sowie Komposition (bei Friedrich K. Wanek) am Peter-Cornelius-Konservatorium in Mainz. Es folgte ein Studium an der California State University in Fresno (USA) in den Fachern Klavier (bei Philip Lorenz) und Komposition (bei Jack Fortner). Rodolphe Haimann bestreitet zahlreiche Konzerte als Solist, Liedbegleiter und im Klavier-Duo mit Thomas Noichl im In- und Ausland. Seit 1991 ist Rodolphe Haimann Lehrbeauftragter fur Klavier und Komposition am Camerloher-Gymnasium in Freising (Musisches Gymnasium). Er ist Gastdozent an der Musikakademie Marktoberdorf und Mitglied der EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association).

At less than 20 years of age, the youngest son of the Leipzig cantor of St. Thomas, Johann Sebastian Bach, withdrew from the Lutheran musical tradition of his family: Johann Christian Bach went to Italy, converted to Catholicism there and composed mainly Latin church music between 1757 and 1760. His great successes with operas for Turin, Milan and Naples from 1761 onwards led him all the way to London. Bach's church music comprises a number of vespers compositions, some of them large-scale, including this Magnificat a 4 (1760) for soloists, choir and orchestra. The very diversified work gets its additional attraction from distinctively led oboes and horns.

Ward De Vleeschhouwer began his piano training at the E. Hullebroeck Academy in his hometown of Ghent, Belgium. After graduating from the Academy, he continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Ghent, studying piano with Claude Coppens and Daan Vandewalle, composition with Luc Brewaeys and Frank Nuyts, and improvisation with Peter Vermeersch. The Bach contemporary Christian August Jacobi is among those composers who made a lasting impression among 18th century Middle German composers, since the influence of the Thomaskantor himself was limited primarily to Leipzig. Jacobi's cantatas are richly varied and they not too difficult to perform. Five of the six movements of the Christmas cantata Also hat Gott die Welt geliebet for soli, choir, strings and basso continuo are based on Luther's Christmas chorale Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her, which give the work a traditional character (the text of the first movement is based on the Gospel of St. John). The richly varied instrumentation and alternation between choral movements and duets by the soloists bring to the sound of the cantata a variety which will also be enhanced by the use of the harp (ad libitum). The cantata Nur jedem das Seine (Do justice to all men) BWV 163, for the last Sunday of the Church Year 1714/15, belongs among to those chamber music works which Bach composed for the Weimar Schlosskirche. The instruments are limited to strings, although two obbligato violoncellos are included which together with the solo bass singer and the continuo form a bass quartet unique in Bach's works. The final chorale of the cantata is handed down only as a fragment and was newly reconstructed for our edition by Thomas Riegler. Score available separately - see item CA.3116300.
