In ‘Latin Dance Party’ William Vean takes us along to sunny, seemingly care-free places. Happy faces, catchy music, delicious drinks are images that come to mind when listening to this ‘feel good’ music which will either get you in a dreamy mood or make you want to step out onto the dance floor. To start we hear the first dance of Cuban origin 'Cha Cha Cha', cheerful, romantic, playful dance . The Cha Cha Cha is probably the most popular dance. Then we have the slower 'Bossa Nova' (new wave), a dance developed from the Samba rhythms with strong syncopation. We end with the 'Samba'. Samba is party. The samba is a mix of polka, Cuban habanera and Africanrhythms, born around 1910 in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, and every year the leading dance during the exuberant carnival. Samba is feest. De Samba is eenmix van polka, Cubaanse habanera en Afrikaanse ritmes, ontstaan omstreeks 1910 in de sloppenwijken van Rio de Janeiro, en ieder jaar tijdens het uitbundige carnaval te horen.

Alexander Zemlinsky's music was long unjustly overshadowed by what was regarded as the “more progressive†Second Viennese School. Although Zemlinsky was close friends with its protagonist Arnold Schönberg, he never did take the latter's radical step into dodecaphony. At the same time, he composed works that were no less original or fully fledged. Composed between 1913 and 1915, his Second String Quartet in particular pushed the contemporaneous understanding of form and tonality to its limits. With just one movement but spanning over 1,200 measures, this multi-faceted work numbers among the most significant contributions to the genre of the time and has long merited a critical new edition. The Urtext edition by G. Henle Publishers corrects many errors and inaccuracies in the first edition that came to light after careful comparison with the autograph sources in Vienna and Washington. For the first time, too, the metronome markings that survive only in one of Zemlinsky's letters have been incorporated. Editorial work was kindly supported by the Alexander Zemlinsky Endowment Fund in Vienna.

The six Concerts op. VI for violin, strings and continuo by Antonio Vivaldi were published in Amsterdam by Roger in 1719. Although the contribution of Vivaldi was most likely modest - even to assume that the publishing occurred without his authorization - these six compositions mark a decisive step towards the definition of the classic Vivaldi Concerto, consisting of three movements and with the participation of a single Soloist. This critical edition - mainly based on the first printed edition and its following reprints - takes into consideration also all the printed sources related to each single concert of op. VI found in anthologies and the manuscript ones kept at the Wiesentheid and Dresda libraries.

There can be no doubt about it: The Bachs were a family of musicians. One of them was Johann Bach, who lived from 1604 to 1673 and experienced the turbulent times of the Thirty Years' War. When he - as the first in the family - found joy and fulfillment not only as an organist, but also as a composer, he would certainly never have imagined what historically great steps his successors were to take, especially his great nephew Johann Sebastian.Johann Bach's motet Unser Leben ist ein Schatten was published in 1821, but was erroneously attributed to Johann Michael Bach. Unusual is the scoring with one six-part main chorus and one three-part off-stage chorus (Chorus latens) which gives the piece a spatial sound depth and thus a very particular atmosphere.

Unparalleled in scope, this groundbreaking series for E_Alto and B_Tenor offers a single collection of Repertoire and supporting materials written or arranged specifically for saxophone. With Repertoire spanning from the Baroque to contemporary eras, Recordings, Etudes, Technique, and Orchestral Excerpts, this comprehensive series serves as a balanced and organized pedagogical resource from the beginner to advanced levels of study. Nine progressive volumes of Repertoire expose students to original works and arrangements of diverse styles from W.A. Mozart to Violet Archer, with selected works by notable jazz artist Paul Desmon (Take Five), and living composer Phil Woods. Each level provides opportunities to explore Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary works, with original, unaccompanied selections from Levels 5 through 8 that use extended techniques such as multiphonics, key clicks, and bisbigliando. Earlier works pre-dating the origin of the saxophone have been carefully arranged with consideration of the unique quality of the instrument. Exposure to these works help to develop musicianship and an understanding of tonality, creating well-rounded and versatile performers. Selections written for both E_Alto and B_Tenor include piano accompaniments that function with both instruments.Eb Saxophone:Mainly Transcriptions:Siciliana - attr. Johann Sebastian Bach, arr. In the second half of his life, Moeran greatly extended his sensibilities and his musical palate to include more energetic and vigorous rhythms, harmonic colours and tonalities. In the Sonata for ViolonCello and Piano, the listener will find grandeur in the first movement and an intricate rondo in the finale. It is a piece by a composer who has taken an expansive step beyond his immediate surroundings and first influences.E J Moeran was a 20th century British composer of Anglo-Irish background who spent his early years in Norfolk and influences of folksong and programmatic elements can be easily heard in this composer's main body of work. Moeran tended toward thesmaller ensembles in his compositions, which gave an appropriate frame for his lyric gifts.
