Chamber Music harp SKU: PR.110406720 Composed by Samuel Adler. Classical....(+)
Chamber Music harp SKU: PR.110406720 Composed by Samuel Adler. Classical. Softcover. With Standard notation. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #110-40672. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.110406720). UPC: 680160001316. I have always been fond of writing works for specific people or organizations. It has been my good fortune during most of my creative career to be asked to compose for many extraordinary performers. The Sonata for Harpsichord Solo is such a case in point: it was written in 1982 for Barbara Harbach, a superb performer, close friend, and collaborator on many musical projects. The Sonata was premiered on March 2, 1984, in a recital given by Dr. Harbach at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. During my formative years as a composer, one seldom heard of the harpsichord as a modern instrument, though while I attended undergraduate school at Boston University, some of us banded together to construct a small harpsichord from one of the first do-it-yourself kits which began to appear in the late '40s. It was also during this time that I heard the Sonatina for Violin and Harpsichord by my teacher Walter Piston and consequently specified that the accompanying instrument for my second violin sonata could either be a piano or a harpsichord. It was not until recently, however, that my interest in the harpsichord as a solo instrument for new music was aroused. This was because of the emergence of so many young virtuosi, such as Barbara Harbach, who are interested in the performance of new music besides the great harpsichord music of the Classical, Baroque, and pre-Baroque eras. The keyboard music of Domenico Scarlatti has always intrigued and fascinated me. The brevity, excitement, and clarity of this sparkling music is charming as well as exhilarating. It is this type of Baroque sonata that inspired the conception and form of my harpsichord sonata. The entire work is loosely based on the musical translation of Barabara Harbach's name, especially the conflict of the B (B-flat) and H (B-natural in German notation). This secondo rub or dissonance especially pervades the first movement, which is in a modified sonata form, pitting jagged and tense melodic elements against most lyrical and smooth lines. This second movement is a song-like melody accompanied by rolled chords which may be played on the lute stop of the instrument if this sonata is performed on a two-manual harpsichord. The final movement is an ever-driving joyous toccata which brings the work to an exciting close with a coda made up of accelerating repeated chords. --Samuel Adler. $16.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Guitar - intermediate SKU: BT.SY-2953 Revidierte Neuausgabe von Michael Koch. Method. Book, CD and Audio Online. Composed 2018. 132 pages. Ricordi #SY 2953. Published by Ricordi (BT.SY-2953). German. DIE NEUE GITARRENSCHULE by Heinz Teuchert is one of the most successful methods for classical guitar in German. Since it was first published in 1983, the guitar technique has evolved in many respects so that the need of a revised edition has become more and more evident. Prof. Michael Koch has taken up this mission and now presents the revised method in two volumes: the texts, parts of the playing material, and the appearance of the books have been modernized while preserving Teuchertââ¬â¢s methodical approach and the underlying structure of the method. One of its strengths is the diversity in terms of playing techniques and musical styles not only solo playing but also fingerpicking styles, flamenco techniques, and song accompaniment are taught. The BOOK CD AUDIO ONLINE packs also feature demonstration and play-along recordings of many pieces included in the books.
Published by Alphonse Leduc (HL.282996). 9.0x12.0x0.267 inches. During his studies, pianist and composer Florian Nagel drew on the teachings of two masters with diametrically opposed approaches tomusic: according to him, Marcel Bitsch brought him wisdom and Claude Ballif, folly. He has written numerous pieces for the pianoalong with vocal and chamber music. His first international success came with Alice in Wonderland for piano four hands and narrator,an orchestral version of which was premiered in March 2018 by the Orchestra national du Capitole de Toulouse. Nagel's Piano Book connects old and new, drawing on the past while remaining firmly anchored in modern times. The 25 remarkably inventive pieces in this collection present an astonishing diversity of styles. From the Prelude et Fuga Antica to the study for the Octaves and the Hommage Ligeti et Rautavaara, this volume offers a rich selection of the piano's potential today. Written equally for concert performance and for the perfection of technique, it also contains an educational component in which the musical form is placed at the service of a wide-ranging imagination. $29.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Chamber Music trombone SKU: CF.WF231 20 Original Etudes in a Variety of Styles. Composed by Tom Brantley. Collection - Performance. With Standard notation. 48 pages. Carl Fischer Music #WF231. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.WF231). ISBN 9781491153314. UPC: 680160910816. Stylistic Etudes for Trombone was written for intermediateto advanced level trombonists, seeking to meet thedemands of the modern marketplace for performers. AsI often tell my students, it’s simply not enough to mastera single style and fake the rest. To make a living as aperformer, trombonists are expected to play many, manydifferent styles authentically. Classical performers studyhard and devote themselves to mastering the stylisticnuances of various eras, various composers, variousforms; jazz musicians seek to accurately reflect the stylesof everything from bar-room burlesque to Coltrane; hornbands in the funk, rock, ska and hip-hop idioms mustreflect attention to the details of their influences even asthey create new paths through popular music. This etude collection is an attempt to help studentsand their teachers work on the details associated withmastering each of these various styles. In order to perform with the correct feel, articulationand sound, trombonists must first get these concepts intheir head through diligent listening and then disciplinedpractice playing in every single style. The same wayorchestral players study the symphonic literature andexcerpts, or the way a professional jazz musician mightwork on chord changes in excruciating detail, a wellroundedtrombone player must master styles by listeningto and playing with great recordings. Most of the etudesin this book are based on styles from specific orchestralliterature, jazz standards and other styles such as NewOrleans’ funk music (Meters) or the music of JamesBrown and Tower of Power. One final note: some of these are hard. On purpose. Theseare not warm-ups that you can play through mindlesslyto get your face going. These are “study pieces†in the oldfashionedsense. They are designed to challenge you asa player, to make you a little uncomfortable. Some aretougher than others, of course, but none of them are easy.If you can play through each of these well, with greatmusicianship and impeccable technique, you will be anincredibly versatile instrumentalist and be able to secureperformance opportunities that are outside the comfortzone of many trombonists. Thanks for buying this book. I hope you enjoy workingthrough these, whether you’re a teacher, student, performer, or weekend warrior. I learned a lot by puttingthese together and I hope you find them useful and helpful. Most of the etudes in this book are based on styles from specific orchestral literature, jazz standards and other styles such as New Orleans’ funk music (Meters) or the music of James Brown and Tower of Power. How these etudes were conceived, composed and transcribed: The style or concept of the etude was thought out in my head and ear. I then improvised in that style and concept on my trombone, recording my efforts until I was satisfied with the etude. All along, my goal was to play the range of the instrument while emphasizing certain articulations, rhythms, range and, fundamentally, the intended style of the etude. The resulting etude was then transcribed by a terrific graduate student named Zach Bornheimer, who also works with many other classical and jazz composers as a copyist/arranger.Tips for working on the etudes: Seek out professional recordings that match the style of each etude to get a good idea of what the etude should sound like musically. My recording of each of these etudes is available for download and can be purchased online for a modest fee. Search for “Brantley Etudes†at either iTunes or CDBaby. Practice each etude very slowly and in segments as needed, using a metronome. Record yourself and listen for good technique, musicianship and authenticity of style with your sound, feel and articulations. Compare your own efforts to the sounds you’ve heard on recordings. Would you fit in that ensemble or band? If range is an issue, take certain notes or passages down or up an octave. Work on your fundamentals every day, including the techniques and skills needed for these etudes. Be patient! Small improvements every day result in big success over time. Always play with a wide dynamic range. Always play with line and direction. Always play with impeccable time as well as rhythm. Use a metronome to help with this. Always play in tune. You can work on this with a tuner as well as with drones. Play these for teachers, friends, peers and colleagues not only for their feedback but also for the experience of informal performance. An audience changes everything. Make music, listen to music, record yourself, play in public and have fun!One final note: some of these are hard. On purpose. | Without Form and Void Choral SATB SATB, Piano Theodore Presser Co.
Choral SATB choir, piano SKU: PR.362034230 A Prologue to THE CREATION ...(+)
Choral SATB choir, piano SKU: PR.362034230 A Prologue to THE CREATION by Franz Joseph Haydn. Composed by Dan Welcher. Sws. Premiered at the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, Austin, TX. Choral. Performance Score. With Standard notation. Composed July 5 2014. 16 pages. Duration 5:15. Theodore Presser Company #362-03423. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.362034230). ISBN 9781598069556. UPC: 680160624225. Letter inches. English. When the Texas Choral Consort asked Welcher to write a short prologue to Haydn's The Creation, his first reaction was that Haydn already presents Chaos in his introductory movement. As he thought about it, Welcher began envisioning a truer void to precede Haydn's depiction of Chaos within the scope of 18th-century classical style - quoting some of Haydn's themes and showing human voices and inhuman sounds in a kind of pre-creation melange of color, mood, and atmosphere. Welcher accepted this challenge with the proviso that his prologue would lead directly into Haydn's masterpiece without stopping, and certainly without applause in between. Scored for mixed chorus and Haydn's instrumentation, Without Form and Void is a dramatically fresh yet pragmatic enhancement to deepen any performance of Haydn's The Creation. Orchestral score and parts are available on rental. When Brent Baldwin asked me to consider writing a short prologue to THE CREATION, my first response was “Why?â€Â THE CREATION already contains a prologue; it’s called “Representation of Chaosâ€, and it’s Haydn’s way of showing the formless universe. How could a new piece do anything but get in the way? But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. The Age of Enlightenment’s idea of “Chaos†was just extended chromaticism, no more than Bach used (in fact, Bach went further).Perhaps there might be a way to use the full resources of the modern orchestra (or at least, a Haydn-sized orchestra) and the modern chorus to really present a cosmic soup of unborn musical atoms, just waiting for Haydn’s sure touch to animate them. Perhaps it could even quote some of Haydn’s themes before he knew them himself, and also show human voices and inhuman sounds in a kind of pre-creation mélange of color, mood, and atmosphere. So I accepted the challenge, with the proviso that my new piece not be treated as some kind of “overtureâ€, but would instead be allowed to lead directly into Haydn’s masterpiece without stopping, and certainly without applause. I crafted this five minute piece to begin with a kind of “music of the spheres†universe-hum, created by tuned wine glasses and violin harmonics. The chorus enters very soon after, with the opening words of Genesis whispered simultaneously in as many languages as can be found in a chorus. The first two minutes of my work are all about unborn human voices and unfocused planetary sounds, gradually becoming more and more “coherent†until we finally hear actual pitches, melodies, and words. Three of Haydn’s melodies will be heard, to be specific, but not in the way he will present them an hour from now. It’s almost as if we are listening inside the womb of the universe, looking for a faint heartbeat of worlds, animals, and people to come. At the end of the piece, the chorus finally finds its voice with a single word: “God!â€, and the orchestra finally finds its own pulse as well. The unstoppable desire for birth must now be answered, and it is----by Haydn’s marvelous oratorio. I am not a religious man in any traditional sense. Neither was Haydn, nor Mozart, nor Beethoven. But all of them, as well as I, share in what is now called a humanistic view of how things came to be, how life in its many forms developed on this planet, and how Man became the recorder of history. The gospel according to John begins with a parody of Genesis: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.â€Â  I love that phrase, and it’s in that spirit that I offer my humble “opener†to the finest work of one of the greatest composers Western music has ever known. My piece is not supposed to sound like Haydn. It’s supposed to sound like a giant palette, on which a composer in 1798 might find more outrageous colors than his era would permit…but which, I hope, he would have been delighted to hear. $3.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Music Theory for the Successful String Musician is the music theory and history curriculum string programs have been waiting for. In two carefully crafted books, author Christopher Selby presents a comprehensive and pedagogically sound sequence specifically for orchestral string students and also addresses questions and offers guidance in resolving problems that are unique to the orchestra classroom. This curriculum will help directors teach music theory, music literacy, music history, and creativity—all of those hard-to-reach standards that ultimately help music students become more well-rounded and better performers, creators, and consumers of great music. Students will learn: Tonal literacy. Fingerboard maps and diagrams teach students how all sharp, flat, and natural notes on the staff relate to the spaces on the fingerboard. Sequential lessons introduce students to minor and major seconds and the effects that key signatures and accidentals have on finger patterns. Students also learn about thirds, tetrachords, and key signatures for all major and minor scales. Rhythmic literacy. The rhythm units teach students how to mark their music so they can perform rhythms independently, correctly, and confidently. Students will learn to read and decipher complex dotted, tied, and syncopated rhythms, as well as the longer notes and rests that are common in orchestra music. Historical awareness. Students will learn the evolution of string instruments and how string music has evolved over the past four centuries. They will learn about some of the great composers and musical genres from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras. Creative activities. Creativity units teach students how to write down their ideas while also encouraging them to break free from written notation and focus on the enjoyment of making their own music with friends. These units give students opportunities to contribute their own ideas to the ever-evolving field of string music. These units give students opportunities to contribute their own ideas to the ever-evolving field of string music. . $8.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
