The symposium brought together 112 participants from 12 nations across six continents and 24 U.S. states to learn of each other’s work, establish collaborations and professional networks, and shape new directions for research in this important area of music education at the University of Florida in Gainesville from March 19–22, 2019. The two keynote addresses and 31 papers published in this volume document music assessment practice and the measurement and evaluation of music learning across the world in local, state, and national contexts at all levels. The attendees also attended special work sessions to begin developing a set of assessment literacy standards for music teachers based on the International Principles for Assessment in Music Education (developed and introduced by the co-chairs at ISAME6 in 2017), and their discussions are summarized in this collection. As music educators across the world come to terms with increased expectations for accountability of learning in music, the scholars and practitioners who have contributed to this volume provide insight to guide their work. | Six trio sonatas, Op. 1 vol.2 [Score] Edition HH
Two violins, violoncello & basso continuo SKU: HH.HH585-FSP Composed by F...(+)
Two violins, violoncello & basso continuo SKU: HH.HH585-FSP Composed by Frederich Ernest Fisher. Edited by Michael Talbot. Full score and parts. Edition HH Music Publishers #HH585-FSP. Published by Edition HH Music Publishers (HH.HH585-FSP). ISBN 9790708213000. Stanley Sadie’s opinion, expressed in 1963, that the two of the twelve trio sonatas by Frederick Ernest Fisher(1711/12–1760), divided equally between Op. 1 (c.1751) and Op. 2 (c.1761), were ‘among the finest of their time’ while some of the others were ‘remarkably inventive and original’ almost sells this composer short. Every single one of these works, scored for two violins, cello and harpsichord, is masterly and deserves a permanent place in the repertoire. Born in or near Kassel, Fisher spent several years in Holland, teaching music from 1741 to 1745 at the university of Leiden, before emigrating to England. After spending about two years in London he settled permanently in Cambridge, where he taught music to members of the local music society. His Op. 1 set, dedicated to the same society, epitomizes the ‘social’ character of the trio sonata genre, where individual virtuosity yields its place to amicable interaction between the players. Fisher was a cellist as well as a violinist, and this background is brought out by the rare eloquence of his bass lines. The diversity of movement types in these ordinarily three-movement sonatas is very attractive. They include powerful fugues, expansive movements in sonata form, languorous middle movements reminiscent of those in operatic overtures and a selection of dance movements, all of which mix baroque, galant and classical elements in a convincing synthesis. $49.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9383. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9383). ISBN 9790004188538. 9 x 12 inches. Two years ago in Rome, I encountered a murmuration of starlings and I was amazed with its overwhelming beauty, changing shape as it moved. Moving of a fish school that you can watch in an aquarium, has the same beauty and the energy. According to the scientists, their fine movement in a flock is based on the following three simple rules: - steer to avoid crowding local flockmates - steer towards the average heading of local flockmates - steer to move towards the average position (center of mass) of local flockmates The word Boids refers to bird-like objects (bird-oids), representing the beauty of their movements in a flock which is a result of balancing out with each other, following the principle of least effort. I wonder if these rules can be applied to the way a string quartet is shaped. Boids again has been written as a sequel to the piece Boids (2017), a 4 minute study for string quartet in the frame of the Kronos Quartet's educational project 50 for the Future. (Misato Mochizuki)

| Tongoy Triptych 2 Guitars (duet) Schott
Guitar Duet (Score) SKU: HL.49047318 For Two Guitars in Three Movement...(+)
Guitar Duet (Score) SKU: HL.49047318 For Two Guitars in Three Movements Score. Composed by Dominique Le Grande. Guitar. Classical. Softcover. Duration 540 seconds. Schott Music #ED14159. Published by Schott Music (HL.49047318). ISBN 9798350121940. UPC: 196288201359. Composed for two guitars, this suite in three movements was inspired by a trip to northern Chile with two close friends whose lives have been dedicated to Human Rights activism and to whom the suite is dedicated. Each of the three movements evokes the spirit of the place where the music locates itself. The first movement, Tongoy Sea captures the sleepy seaside town of Tongoy on the Pacific coast with its long stretch of beach onto which spills the village, the fishing boats and the fish market while families gather in the local fish restaurants that line the beach looking out to sea. The second movement, Tololo Sky, recalls the long car drive up the winding mountain towards the Inter-American observatory, Cerro Tololo. Driving up the mountain I was struck by the starkness of our car winding its way on a single desert mountain road surrounded by a vast sky of an intense and translucent blue. The final movement, Elqui Earth, evokes the gentle slow pace of the town of Vicuña, birthplace of the poet Gabriela Mistral in the Elqui Valley. This fertile stretch of green with its abundant vineyards and fruit orchards stands out against the dry mountains that encircle it below a limpid sky. Dominique Le Gendre (2023). $9.99 - See more - Buy online

Chamber Music Violin, cello, Piano SKU: PR.114418250 Composed by Stacy Garrop. Contemporary. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. Composed 2013. 40+16+16 pages. Duration 23 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41825. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114418250). UPC: 680160640959. 9 x 12 inches. In 2011, Barbara Garrop, my mother, commissioned me to write a piano trio in memory of Norman Garrop, my father, who passed away about thirty years ago. When I started brainstorming about topics for the piece, I found it difficult to recall many moments of my early life involving my father. Too many years had passed, and the memories that I could summon were of achild looking up to her father, not an adult relating to an equal. However, while collecting stories of my father from various family members, along with discovering a number of objects that had once belonged to him and that I had stored away in boxes decades ago, I began to realize that this piece wasn't so much about my father as it was about my re-discovering the man that he was: a loving husband and dad who cared deeply about his family and his passions (which included bike riding, collecting coins, strumming our guitar, playing baseball, watching football games, entertaining people, helping to run local theater and puppet productions, and carving objects out of wook); an accountant who dreamed of a better future: a treasurer of our local synagogue; an early advocate for computers (we owned an Apple II+); and a pranster with a great sense of humor. Ultimately, I decided to musically tell the story of my search for these memories. In the first movement (Without), a child calls out in a sing-song voice, searching for her lost parent. This search intesifies over the course of the movement through a series of themes, including a stepping motif in which a two-note progression steadily climbs higher, a pseudo-jewish folksong, and a passionate longing theme. The child's search becomes increasingly intense throughout the movement, calling out fervently and repeatedly to the parent; the movement ends in a moment of great tnesion and uncertainty. The second movment (Within) quietly opens with the lost parent finally answering, represented by a solo cello; the child (now personified by the violin) has found the parent within the sanctuary of her own heart. This movement highlights the joy and solemnity of this beautiful discovery. -S.G. $43.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
