Sei mein! was written and composed by Peter Cornelius in 1865 for his future wife Bertha Jung. The composer set the poem in short rhyming lines using the scheme aaabcccb, recounting with loving humor what his beloved means to him. These art songs were originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted them to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing the any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD Kennst du das Land ... (Carus 83.495).

With its commitment to creating independent musical thinkers through the use of folk songs, Conversational Recorder is a visionary approach to recorder that builds music literacy and independence. This highly anticipated component of John M. Feierabend’s Conversational Solfege is a dynamic and engaging method that seamlessly coordinates with Levels 1 and 2 of the curriculum, an innovative 12-step “ear-before-eye†approach to teaching music literacy. Central to Conversational Recorder are two hundred online audio tracks with coordinating Guided Practice Activities at the beginning of each unit. The online tracks walk students step by step through decoding patterns and songs and are perfectly suited for at-home assignments and virtual instruction. Each of the thirteen units in this resource presents a new rhythm or melody challenge that is reinforced using a series of short musical patterns and songs. To ensure aural mastery before instrumental application, students follow a three-step procedure: (1) sing first, (2) sing while fingering on recorder, and (3) play on recorder. The teacher’s manual includes dozens of recorder activities (techniques) along with an overview of the method, instructions for how to use the online tracks, and tips for teaching fingering, tonguing, and breathing. The appendices also contain sample lesson plans, resources for assessment, fingering charts, and information for teaching recorder to students with disabilities. Conversational Recorder is an ideal program for incorporating recorder instruction into the elementary music classroom. John M. Feierabend, PhD, has spent decades compiling songs and rhymes from the memories of the American people in hopes that these treasures will be preserved for future generations. He is a leading authority on child development in music and movement and served as Professor and Chair of the Music Education Department of the Hartt School of the University of Hartford. Rachel Grimsby is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Illinois State University and has over fifteen years of experience teaching elementary general music. She is a co-author of First Steps in Music with Orff Schulwerk and Feierabend Fundamentals, and her research interests include professional development for in-service teachers and paraprofessionals as well as teaching music to students with disabilities.

Deep-Sky Objects is a cycle of love songs set in the distant future, exploring intergalactic longing and desire. It is scored for soprano, piano quintet, and pre-recorded electronic sounds. When the piano quintet was in its heyday, the subject that permeated so many of the great Romantic song cycles was that of longing and lost love. Deep-Sky Objects transfers this trope to the outer reaches of the universe In the cycle a woman sings of her lover who is far away in a remote planet in some unspecified star system. At moments she remembers a time when they were together, but mostly she longs for him and stoically imagines that his presence, even so remote, gives her hope:I can live in the worldWith your love becauseI know you existat the end of the black universeThe electronics part often references various “sounds from space,” from pulsars (which are routinely converted into audio signals by astronomers), the signals of made-made satellites, actual audio of the Huygens probe landing on Saturn's moon, Titan, as well as many sounds suggestive of the eerie, remote and unfathomable reaches of deep space. Each of the ten songs is preceded by a short sample, or incipit, which creates micro-compositions based on the title of each song. The text is written specifically for Deep-Sky Objects, by Sarah Manguso.–Sebastian Currier.

My home country, Japan, inaugurates the season of the blooming cherrytree with ceremonies of welcome and commencement. I wanted tocompose a piece that captures the wondrous feeling of these ceremonies; apiece that could project sentiments of elation or of hopes for a brighteningfuture. The beginning of the piece through m. 28 should be played with muchexpression. Inner melodies are also important. A lighter atmosphere isintroduced in m. 29. The staccato figures in this passage are representative of a lighter mood. The music expands from m. 45 and features longer phrases. In m. 75 the harmonic patterns become more dramatic, only to return to calmness of the opening.I hope the players will feel full of vitality, hope and dreams in thismusic. And I would be very happy if I could see their smiles at the end.

The music releases pieces of vivid sound one after another into the performance space. It is a baby's march - right foot, left foot, step by step. Innocent, audaciously powerful and immature, the toddler walks planting each step firmly on the ground. Based on a constant beat, the music is deformed with digital and pop expressions. Cute and pop contents and textures are produced and consumed on a massive scale every day. I find beauty in such artificial textures around us. Into this piece of music I put my love and prayers for children and future generations to come. Akiko Yamane.

The title of this work clearly alludes to the classical musical form which was often composed for wind instruments. The so-called 'Harmonie' was very important to the composers of the Classical Viennese School. This was especially true for Mozart whose heritage showed proof of immortal beauty and absolute artistic value within his compositions. In the individual sections of Divertimento Op. 4, the composer makes use of three popular songs, the first two from Finland and the third from Bulgaria. The composition has a fundamentally uncomplicated feel composed to delight the listener, whilst retaining a deeply introspective feel especially in the second section. This early work by Franco Cesarini illustrates the composer's love for popular songs, which often formed a fundamental part of many of his future pieces. At the heart of his unique style of musical writing are his skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form.

It is a stirring dance tune featuring characteristics from various genres, such as power pop and electro disco.
