| The Road Not Taken Carl Fischer
Choral Cello, Piano, SATB chorus SKU: CF.CM9714 Composed by Z. Randall St...(+)
Choral Cello, Piano, SATB chorus SKU: CF.CM9714 Composed by Z. Randall Stroope. 16 pages. Duration 4 minutes, 48 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #CM9714. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9714). ISBN 9781491160329. UPC: 680160918904. Key: F major. English. Robert Frost. About the work ... Few American poems are as well known as The Road Not Taken. Robert Frost, the author, is an international icon, not unlike Pablo Picasso, Winston Churchill or Mark Twain in their own disciplines. The poem is full of contradictions and quirks of form and structure. Perhaps that illusiveness is part of the poem's intrigue. But beyond all of the literary devices that only a few scholars may fully appreciate, this poem has taken on a sort of fanfare for the common person credo - a challenge to individualism, stepping out on one's own, and breaking the mold out of sheer determination if nothing else. Frost connects to the core of the human spirit in just a few stanzas using the analogy of a fork in a road. The message super cedes geography, culture, race or creed. Rather, it is part of the DNA of most every person on the planet - the inner desire to feel empowered to create one's own destiny, to forge a road not taken, and ultimately in doing so, to make a difference. Rehearsal notes ... Research strongly suggests that there is a direct connection between the first rehearsal and the performance. First impressions last. I find it helpful to immediately lock three concepts into place - mechanics (notes/rhythms), text/phrasing (intent and motivation) and color (timbre). Performers need to think musically from the first reading forward (first impression). The cello is very much a collaborative instrument in this work, and should be located in front of the ensemble (not to side). Lastly, let the text speak. The simplest melodic lines are often the most exposed. Keep the voices clear and transparent, floating over the top in softer passages, and singing with vibrancy and forward focus throughout. Z. Randall Stroope A definitive recording was made by the New American Voices, with Randall conducting. This can be found on Spotify, YouTube, his website (www.zrstroope), and other social media. About the composer ... Z. Randall Stroope is an American composer and conductor. His composition teachers were Normand Lockwood and Cecil Effinger, both students of the Nadia Boulanger, the famous French teacher (and student of Gabriel Faure). He is the artistic director of two international summer music festivals, is an Honorary Member of the National Association of Italian Choral Directors, and has conducted in 25 countries. He has directed over 40 times at Carnegie Hall, and is a frequent conductor at other prestigious concert venues. Randall has 190 published works, and his music can be heard on Spotify, YouTube and other platforms, including his website (www.zrstroope.com). | The Romantic Tuba Potenza Music
Tuba and piano SKU: P2.90126 Composed by Various. Arranged by Joe Caldari...(+)
Tuba and piano SKU: P2.90126 Composed by Various. Arranged by Joe Caldarise. Published by Potenza Music (P2.90126). Melodie - Taken from Tchaikovsky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher, this popular violin work fits in quite well with thick melodic low voice of the tuba. The original work began life as the second movement of the famous Violin Concerto, however the composer chose to discard and recast it in a more intimate setting for violin and piano. The lyrical melodic line, characteristic of Tchaikovsky, gives the performer a great opportunity to demonstrate how the tuba's power and flow can be applied to truly sing on the instrument. And the more technical moments allow the player to show off just how deft and nuanced the instrument can be as well. Allerseelen - Strauss composed this All Soul's Day song to fit the poetry of the Austrian Hermann von Gilm. This popular art song has since been arranged for various settings, from orchestras to brass bands, but suits the tuba's voice just beautifully. The held notes give time for the tuba's sound to fill the room while the harmonies shift in that gorgeous late-Romantic style. And the climax provides the instrument with the great operatic moment that it so deserves. Zueignung - Originating from the same Strauss song set as Allerseelen, this song takes a much more operatic turn. The opening rolling triplets give the piece a strong sense of forward momentum, carrying it as a performer might traverse across the stage. History has proven this to be one of Strauss' best-known songs, and the climactic statement in the final measures certainly gives the tuba a great moment to take center-stage. Abendlied - The ever-moody Schumann originally composed this piece for violin and piano. Its slow and halting accompaniment allows the soloist to demonstrate their skills with rubato and nuanced phrasing. As with most Romantic music, care should be taken to bring out the accidentals, so as to heighten the dramatic tension-release of this seemingly simple piece. Liebestraume - As one of Liszt's most popular pieces of all time, this piece is quintessential Romantic love song. No aspect of the tuba or tubist is left unexplored here. It begins with a simple, yet confined melody, taking advantage here of the tuba's warm middle-low register. The brief quasi cadenza section gives the player a sparkling moment to give the listener a glimpse of the tuba's technical capabilities. The accompaniment then gradually grows in intensity while the tuba elaborates on the main theme while ramping up the passion and strength of the instrument's voice. By mm. 41 and 54, the player should be commanding the room with the full power of the instrument, poured into a sweeping melodic phrase. After a dazzling display of technical fluency with the cadenza, the piece shrinks back to its most intimate form. The final bars of the solo part afford the player the chance to display the instrument's most delicate and poignant voice, before sliding back down into the lower register for final tonic note. - Joe Caldarise. $22.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Washed up on the Phaeacian shore after a shipwreck, Odysseus is introduced to King Alcinous. As he sits in the palace, he tells the Phaeacians of his wanderings since leaving Troy. Odysseus and his men fi rst landed on the island of the Cicones wherethey sacked the city of Ismarus. From there, great storms swept them to the land of the hospitable Lotus Eaters. Then they sailed to the land of the Cyclopes. Odysseus and twelve of his men entered the cave of Polyphemus. After the single-eyed giantmade handfuls of his men into meals, Odysseus fi nally defeated him. He got him drunk and once he had fallen asleep, he and his men stabbed a glowing spike into the Cyclop’s single eye, completely blinding him. They escaped by clinging to the belliesof some sheep. Once aboard, Odysseus taunted the Cyclop by revealing him his true identity. Enraged, Polyphemus hurled rocks at the ship, trying to sink it. After leaving the Cyclopes’ island, they arrived at the home of Aeolus, ruler of the winds.Aeolus off ered Odysseus a bag trapping all the strong winds within except one - the one which would take him straight back to Ithaca. As the ship came within sight of Ithaca, the crewmen, curious about the bag, decided to open it. The winds escapedand stirred up a storm. Odysseus and his crew came to the land of the cannibalistic Laestrygonians, who sank all but one of the ships. The survivors went next to Aeaea, the island of the witch-goddess Circe. Odysseus sent out a scouting party butCirce turned them into pigs. With the help of an antidote the god Hermes had given him, Odysseus managed to overpower the goddess and forced her to change his men back to human form. When it was time for Odysseus to leave, Circe told him to sail tothe realm of the dead to speak with the spirit of the seer Tiresias. One day’s sailing took them to the land of the Cimmerians. There, he performed sacrifi ces to attract the souls of the dead. Tiresias told him what would happen to him next. He thengot to talk with his mother, Anticleia, and met the spirits of Agamemnon, Achilles, Patroclus, Antilochus, Ajax and others. He then saw the souls of the damned Tityos, Tantalus, and Sisyphus. Odysseus soon found himself mobbed by souls. He becamefrightened, ran back to his ship, and sailed away. While back at Aeaea, Circe told him about the dangers he would have to face on his way back home. She advised him to avoid hearing the song of the Sirens; but if he really felt he had to hear, thenhe should be tied to the mast of the ship, which he did. Odysseus then successfully steered his crew past Charybdis (a violent whirlpool) and Scylla (a multiple-headed monster), but Scylla managed to devour six of his men. Finally, Odysseus and hissurviving crew approached the island where the Sun god kept sacred cattle. Odysseus wanted to sail past, but the crewmen persuaded him to let them rest there. Odysseus passed Circe’s counsel on to his men. Once he had fallen asleep, his men impiouslykilled and ate some of the cattle. When the Sun god found out, he asked Zeus to punish them. Shortly after they set sail from the island, Zeus destroyed the ship and all the men died except for Odysseus. After ten days, Odysseus was washed up on theisland of the nymph Calypso.

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 6 SKU: BT.GOB-000258-140 Composed by Rob Go...(+)
Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 6 SKU: BT.GOB-000258-140 Composed by Rob Goorhuis. Score Only. 34 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000258-140. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000258-140). Les Marteaux de La Marine was composed in 1999 as a commission by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The composition contains three static elements which interchange. Static in this case means that development of the material isnot pursued (by the composer). The first element with which the piece begins is tranquil and colourful. The second element is sharp and incisive, while the third expresses energy. In all elements a repeated tone is the starting point whichexplains the hammers in the works title. The instrumentation is richly variegated with a harp also determining the palette of colours in the slower movements.
The composition opens with an atmospheric Larghetto containing fine harmonies in thesoft and subtly moving wood-winds. The introduction breathes an impressionistic atmosphere in which expressive cantilenas and soloistic agile motifs stand out. A strong setting is followed by an Allegro virtuoso containing fast motifs contrasted withshort and rhythmic stars of the various instrumental sections. Trumpets and horns add a virtuoso bugle-call motif. After a short stringendosection, the transparent Larghetto returns with a varied setting of the opening elements. The beautifulleading roles in this section are reserved for cornet (trumpet) and horn. Subsequently, the flashing Vivo starts with continuous movements in triplets from both wood-winds and brass. Next, the opening Allegro re-appears once again and thus LesMarteaux de la Marine ends with a fast and virtuoso climax.
Les Marteaux de La Marine was selected as a compulsory grade 6 contest piece for symphonic bands in the Netherlands.

Fanfare Band - Grade 2 SKU: BT.GOB-000537-020 Arranged by Andrew R. Macke...(+)
Fanfare Band - Grade 2 SKU: BT.GOB-000537-020 Arranged by Andrew R. Mackereth. Set (Score & Parts). 48 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000537-020. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000537-020). ‘God rest ye merry, Gentlemen’ is an ancient English carol. It was first published in 1833, but it can be traced as far back as the 15th century, which makes it one of the oldest carols known.
‘God rest ye merry’ is a Middle English salutation. In this manner, people wished one another greatness and might. In modern English, the first line of this carol would read ‘May God keep you mighty, gentlemen’.
Andrew R. Mackereth has not kept to the original words in his up-tempo arrangement of the carol. It is still clearly recognizable, but the arranger has taken a good many liberties. Sometimes a particular note is held longer, at times motifs follow oneanother in various parts. If you listen carefully, you may even be able to detect a motif from another well-known song.
‘God rest ye merry Gentleman’ is een oude Engelse carol. De eerste officiële publicatie was in 1833, maar de sporen leiden tot ergens in de 15e eeuw. God rest ye merry Gentleman is daarmee één van de oudste carols.
‘God restye merry’ is een oude groet. Men wenste elkaar kracht toe. May God keep you gentleman strong’.
$78.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
