| From Jewish Life Cello, Piano Classical guitar Carl Fischer
Chamber Music Cello, Piano SKU: CF.BF141 Composed by Ernest Bloch. Edited...(+)
Chamber Music Cello, Piano SKU: CF.BF141 Composed by Ernest Bloch. Edited by Julian Schwarz. 12+8 pages. Carl Fischer Music #BF141. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.BF141). ISBN 9781491159989. UPC: 680160918584. The three pieces From Jewish Life were composed by Swiss-American composer Ernest Bloch in 1924, the same year he took U.S. citizenship. Though clearly inspired and influenced by Jewish experience, they are purely concert pieces, and do not provide any specific liturgical significance.
The first movement, Prayer, is a deeply heartfelt plea to the almighty. As Neil W Levin writes, The initial four-note motive in the minor mode, together with its elaboration in the ensuing phrases, sounds as if it might have served as the skeletal model for Max Janowski's (1912-1991) now well-known setting of the High Holyday prayer Avinu Malkenu. This prayer has special meaning in my own spiritual life, as I have been singing it since my childhood. Both Prayer and Janowski's Avinu Malkenu are cantorial in nature, to be sung with heartfelt pathos.
The second movement, Supplication (the act of begging humbly), has more angst, almost a sense of urgency as a result of the rhythmic motor in the piano. The third movement, Jewish Song, evokes a quintessentially Eastern-European melancholy. Its falling motives with bent intonation might represent the pain of the Jewish experience.
The works were dedicated to Dutch-American cellist Hans Kindler, a highly influential musician of his time, and founder of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kindler was the soloist for the world premiere of Bloch's most celebrated work, Schelomo in 1917.
Though the popularity of Bloch's oeuvre has been dominated by works of Jewish connection, we should not forget that Bloch had many other stylistic periods, including Franco-Belgian, modal, serial, and even American folk. In 1927, he was awarded Musical America's composition prize in a unanimous vote, despite being regarded as an outsider by American music writers at the time. His winning work America (1928) was performed by every major orchestra and conductor in the following seasons. May we be proud of his contributions to American music. SATB choir SKU: WD.080689655173 Composed by Daniel Semsen. Choral, cantatas. Christmas. Book. Word Music #080689655173. Published by Word Music (WD.080689655173). UPC: 080689655173. Dove Award winning songwriters Joel Lindsey and Jeff Bumgardner, with Dove Award winning arranger/ orchestrator Daniel Semsen, have, once again, brought to life an astoundingly appealing new musical for Christmas, Love Was Born a King. With a slew of critically acclaimed dramatic musicals for Christmas under their belt, this highly awarded creative team has done it again, this time with a twist! Their newest offering, Love Was Born a King, is actually 2 musicals in one! Fully developed as a dramatic musical in the vein of their previous successes (How to Have the Best Christmas Ever, An Unexpected Christmas, Welcome to Bethlehem, Under a Starry Sky), Love Was Born a King certainly doesn’t disappoint those in search of their next, new, dramatic musical. For others, who love the music heard in those previously released musicals but aren’t looking for a dramatic musical, Joel and Jeff have delivered an amazing choir with narrator musical option that fully utilizes all the songs found in the drama version… literally, 2 musicals in 1! The option with drama deals poignantly and sensitively with the plight of the homeless, drawing on the responsibility of God’s people to minister and care for those in need. And in the course of helping others, finding that we just might find ourselves being ministered to in the process! If instead you’re looking for a choir with narrator option, you’ll discover the same brilliantly written songs wrapped in a beautifully expressed narrative highlighting the traditional Christmas story focusing on the power and beauty of God’s Love come down to earth, manifested in the birth of the Christ Child. $12.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

UPC: 680160918621. Key: D minor. English. Sara Teasdale, adapted by Meredith Tompkins. Sara Teasdale was a celebrated American poet who lived at the turn of the twentieth century, known for her classical style and pure, openhearted writing. At the young age of twenty-three, she became a published author and went on to release a total of eight award-winning collections of poetry in her lifetime. Love-Free is a reflective poem that appears in Part I of Rivers to the Sea, published in 1915. In the text, the narrator experiences a range of emotions centering around lost love and the desire to either separate from or rekindle it. Reminiscent of an antique music box, the text is paired with a waltz-like accompaniment in a lilting 3/4 pattern. Melodic exploration of the natural minor scale is achieved through mostly step-wise motion and some carefully placed, text-painted leaps ranging from a minor third to a sixth. With some unison, SA, and SSA sections, this piece can show off the wide array of colors and textures available to treble choirs. Create podcasts, live stream gameplay, or produce the next hit. No matter what you do, we want to make sure you sound great. This version designed by Mackie has greater filter control, minimum phase shift and allows you to pinpoint specific frequency ranges. To create the Perkins EQ, Cal Perkins started with the Wien Bridge circuit topology inspired by the hallowed “British†desks of the '60s and '70s. This design essentially trades boost/cut capability for a wider, highly musical Q filter. After a±mind-numbing amount of math, Cal was able to specify capacitor and resistor values that would give the EQ an extra 6dB of control (±15 dB) without excessively narrowing the “Q†or bandwidth of the filters. It's what we call a win-win. Tired of fumbling with your gear? We got you covered. Carry and transport your Mackie Onyx12 mixer effortlessly with our QuickGrip side handles. Whether you're moving gear around your home studio or heading to rehearsal, the rugged design of our steel chassis and sealed rotary will protect your investment wherever you go. $649.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Orchestra SKU: FG.55011-444-9 Composed by Einojuhani Rautavaara. Score (large). Fennica Gehrman #55011-444-9. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-444-9). ISBN 9790550114449. Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928-2016) was one of Finland's internationally most successful composers. He made his major breakthrough with the Symphony No. 7, Angel of Light, in the 1990s, but his output includes numerous classic operas, concertos, chamber music and choral works. Over his extensive career, he progressed from Neo-Classicism to strict dodecaphony to free-tonal Neo-Romanticism, combining modernism with mystical romanticism in his later works. According to the composer, the role of the composer is to be mediator, a midwife, who helps the music become alive on its own terms; Listen to what the music wants to tell you, he told his composition students, sense where it wants to go. Rautavaara rose to great international fame with the success of his Symphony No. 7, Angel of Light (1995) powered by the prize-winning recording (Helsinki Philharmonic, Segerstam, Ondine label) later the same year. Many high-profile international commissions followed, creating yet more prize-winning recordings. To mark the 25th anniversary of the work's premiere - in its original form as the Bloomington Symphony - by the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and conductor David Pickett, Fennica Gehrman is publishing an entirely new edition of the symphony based on all available sources, including the composer's manuscript and his markings in various printed scores. This is a large-sized conductor score with extensive analysis of the work and its genesis. $93.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Conductor, chorus director, airplane pilot, educator, activist, mentor, and advocate Margaret Hillis blazed a trail upon which many continue to tread. The first woman to regularly conduct a major symphony orchestra, she was the founder of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and served for thirty-seven years as its first director, winning nine Grammy Awards. She was also a flight instructor for the U.S. Navy during World War II, an influential member of the National Endowment for the Arts, and built a reputation for her meticulous score preparation and innovative methods of refining choruses into superb ensembles. She earned the respect of the world’s major conductors along with the admiration and affection of many musicians, colleagues, and music lovers. But as compelling as what Margaret Hillis achieved is how she deftly circumvented the constant barriers in fields where women were not welcome. Further complicating her career aspirations, Margaret Hillis was a lesbian woman in an era when such an identity would have certainly ended her career. In Margaret Hillis: Unsung Pioneer, author Cheryl Frazes Hill—a longtime colleague and associate—examines how Hillis was able to overcome the many challenges she faced, navigating a career in ways relatable not only to musicians but also to women in all professions. Margaret Hillis’s story is one of resilience, determination, and passion for music. Her journey is an inspiration, a portrait of what it takes to succeed at the highest level in any field. Dr. Cheryl Frazes Hill is the Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus and the Associate Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Chorus (CSC). Beginning as a member of the CSC in 1976, Margaret Hillis appointed Frazes Hill to the CSC conducting staff in 1987. Frazes Hill has served as professor of music at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts since 2002. A frequent guest conductor, Frazes Hill is a published writer for national education and choral journals on topics of her research in music education and choral conducting. She is married to Dr. Gary Hill, and they have two children, Carlyn and Mitchell.  We are living in an age when strong women are accomplishing amazing things—and this is the story of a woman who succeeded in the male world of orchestral conducting and established the award-winning Chicago Symphony Chorus. Her life consisted of challenges continually met and conquered, and her relentless drive for excellence in her profession. Cheryl Frazes Hill gives us a carefully researched, balanced, and well-written account of her eventful life and achievements. —Alice Parker   Renowned conductor, composer, and longtime friend of Margaret Hillis Cheryl Frazes Hill was in a unique position to observe the career of Margaret Hillis because she was close to her on a personal and professional level. What is particularly gratifying about this biography is that it is clearly the work of someone who admires Margaret Hillis’s accomplishments, but at the same time Frazes Hill has retained a balanced objectivity about her subject. I came away from reading this with a greatly increased knowledge about Margaret Hillis, along with a deep appreciation for what she accomplished as a true pioneer. —Henry Fogel   Former President, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, League of American Orchestras   Dean Emeritus, Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University. $45.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

3 pt treble chorus, instruments ad lib, percussion SKU: CA.1233100 Award winning at females featured competition. Composed by Pat Hanchet. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Full Score. Duration 3 minutes. Carus Verlag #1233100. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1233100). ISBN 9790007312138. Key: G major. English. Text: Hanchet, Pat. Hawks and hounds for children’s choir was written by the British composer, performer and music teacher Pat Hanchet. The piece begins with a march-like pattern over which the composer then places a simple two-part (and later three-part) melody over the established, repetitive marching voices. The piano merely plays a series of short interjections rather like fanfares. The constantly repeating motive provides an easy entry for children into the world of multi-part singing.
The central message of the text is closely linked to the motto of the competition for which the piece was composed: Let’s restore and preserve the beauty of nature! Due to this wide-ranging theme, the work is suitable for performance in both a secular and sacred concert setting. - An easy way for children’s choirs to learn multi-part singing - Current topic “Our Voice for Our Planet” - Prize-winning entry in the children’s choir category at the females featured composition competition of the Baden-Württemberg Choir Academy 2023. $5.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
