Piccola musica profonda entstand für die Kontrabassklasse von Jürgen Michel an der Städt. Clara-Schumann-Musikschule Düsseldorf, insbesondere für den Einsatz bei Jugend musiziert. Der erste Satz Canzonetta profonda kam im Jahre 2016 bei diesem Wettbewerb zur Uraufführung. Laurenz Radig spielte beim Regionalwettbwerb Düsseldorf und beim Landeswettbewerb NRW in Altersgruppe 3. Ihm wurde der Sonderpreis des DTKV Düsseldorf/Mettmann für die beste Interpretation eines zeitgenössischen Stückes zuerkannt. Begleitet wurde er am Klavier von Susanne Ankener-Maczewski. Die maßvollen technischen Anforderungen der drei Sätze schließen neben den traditionellen Bogen- und Grifftechniken auch natürliche Flageoletts ein sowie ein Flageolett-Glissando.

French composer and conductor, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Five Secular and Sacred Dances for Wind Quintet in 1963. As with his other wind compositions, Five Secular and Sacred Dances was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille, but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents, Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor, and during the summer, he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However, in 1921, he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes, often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother in to his compositions. Five Secular and Sacred Dances is a reduction arrangement of his work of the same name for Chamber Orchestra. Comprising five movements; 1) Rural Dance, 2) Secular Dance, 3) Sacred Dances, 4) Bridal Dance, and 5) Warrior Dances, Five Secular and Sacred Dances is one of three Wind Quintets by the composer. This Tomasi piece is suitable to an advanced Wind Quintet, providing an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire..

Commissioned by Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra in 2012, Chinese Rap for violin and orchestra is premiered by Prof. Helen Kim as the soloist and the KSUSO led by Prof. Michael Alexander at Bailey Center in KSU, GA on Feb. 17, 2014. The work is inspired by Chinese folk musical story telling, Quyi, in a form of mixed reciting and singing style, with interludes played by percussion and plucking instruments in accompaniment. The folk musical story telling is sung in dialects from different geographic regions. I mixed all these elements in a complex three-part form, with an introduction, a cadenza in the middle, and a coda as the frame in the structure. The melodies are delicate and leisurely, and the rhythmic parts are energetic, vivid and lively. There are big contrasts between sections, which are juxtaposed and connected smoothly and congenially.

The composer writes:
For many years I wanted to compose a piece for guitar which would inspire interested students to expand their repertoire in the direction of Jewish music. The most natural thing for me was to write a suite based on themes from the synagogue in which I grew up – the Spanish and Portuguese synagogue of Gibraltar. My beloved grandfather served all his life as hazzan (cantor) of this synagogue, and I always felt as a composer and educator that I had a special obligation to continue his tradition and pass it on to a new generation. In this composition, I let the guitar echo the piyyutim (semi-liturgical poems) that were part of my childhood: Adon Olam, Sh'charchoret, Achot K'tana, Yigdal, Borei ad Ana, all of which are sung in the Spanish and Portuguese tradition from Gibraltar to London, and from New York to Jerusalem. I let myself dream the piyyutim, take them apart and reconstruct them as a short suite for guitar, the results of which you are invited to hear here. As a conceptual idea for the suite, I choose to suggest about the cultural continuation between the Diaspora and the land of Israel by way of referencing the well-known melody of Naomi Shemer, which is also popular among the hazzanim.
Dr. Ariel Lazarus is a unique voice among Israeli composer-performers today. Brought up in a family with Jewish musical roots both in Gibraltar and Westphalia, he began composing and playing the guitar in his teens, and has been committed to developing his own compositional language ever since, always maintaining an open dialogue with his traditions.
Lazarus received his BMus and MMus degrees from Oklahoma City University in classical guitar performance and composition where he studied with American composer Dr. Edward Knight. He earned his PhD from Bar Ilan University, studying composition with Prof. Betty Olivero and Prof. Gideon Lewensohn and conducting research under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Seroussi from the Hebrew University. His symphonic works have been premiered by the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra, and his chamber works have been performed by various ensembles in the United States, Central Europe, Portugal, Gibraltar, Scandinavia and Israel. Lazarus performs regularly as Art Ambassador on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora affairs Amiel BaKehila program.
His solo album A Hebrew Capriccio was released by the German boutique label SmoothFactor and was awarded critical acclaim, among others, in Haaretz, and Neue Westfalishe.
Dr. Lazarus is the musical director and co-founder of the Israeli Ladino Orchestra. His work with the orchestra has been recognized by the official Carta de España. He teaches at the Academic College for Education Givat Washington, and the Rimon School of Music. Lazarus’s work has been awarded by the Israeli Pais Art council and ACUM.

Breeze in the Forest was commissioned for the concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa of Osaka Kyoiku University. “Kanreki” is a special term used to celebrate reaching the age of 60 in Japan. The composer was inspired by some of Professor Nakatsukasa’s admirable characteristics upon composing this work: he speaks softly and at the same level as his students; he is fashionable, stylish and refined. The band accompaniment is at a moderate level of difficulty, allowing the solo flautist to choose this work for many an occasion.

Dit werk werd geschreven ter gelegenheid van het ‘Kanreki-concert’ voor de zestigste verjaardag van professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa van de Osaka Kyoiku University. Kanreki is een speciale term die in Japan wordt gebruikt wanneer iemand de leeftijd van zestig heeft bereikt. De componist haalde zijn inspiratie uit een aantal mooie eigenschappen van Nakatsukasa: hij spreekt zacht en weet zijn studenten in hun eigen taal te benaderen; hij is eigentijds, stijlvol en verfijnd. The Musical Aptitude Profile (MAP) is the world standard in music aptitude testing.
