The Belgian composer and conductor Kurt Bikkembergs (*1963) has added to the repertoire for women's choir again: With 'The Maiden and the Sea' based on a text by Rene Geldof, he presents a revised and translated English version of his work 'Het meisje en de zee' written in 1994. It is a choral setting in which Bikkembergs has onomatopoeic and spoken elements alternate with mysterious chordal sounds and combines them in a skilful manner - a fascinating composition for performers and audience alike.

The corresponding sheet music edition for female choir SSAA with piano accompaniment was published by Schott Music (Georg Kreisler - Lieder und Chansons, ED22736). In addition to this, individual editions of all songs from the sheet music album are available: It is loaded to the summer party in the garden, you spend a good time with food, drink and pleasant company. However, this is supplemented shortly thereafter by several hungry tigers, whereupon the host sits at the end of the piece again alone on his terraceand sips with relish on his glass of wine.  This French impressionistic and contemplative work, “In paradisum” (May the angels lead you into paradise ), was added to the original Requiem  by Fauré in 1893. The original 1888 version was heard in Paris in a funeral Mass at La Madeleine with Fauré playing the organ. The text refers to the miracle of eternal rest (“aeternam habeas requiem”). In this edition for treble voices, listeners can hear the continuous fluttering of angel’s wings in the keyboard against the beautifully melodic, mostly unison vocal lines sung by the choir. The rich D major harmonies are developed toward the end of both verses and, finally, in the ending invitation to have eternal rest.
