Vocalise is the second movement from Satoshi Yagisawa’s Trombone Concerto. Yagisawa finally decided to publish this movement as a separate piece, since it has been frequently performed independently and on the euphonium, tenor saxophone or the trombone. Just like the title implies, Vocalise exhibits a warm, gentle chorale-like feel that any audience will enjoy. Also available in an edition with piano accompaniment.

Vocalise is het tweede deel uit de Trombone Concerto van Satoshi Yagisawa. Nadat dit deel uit het werk voor trombone en blaasorkest ook telkens met de euphonium of de tenorsaxofoon als soloinstrument werd gespeeld, beslootde componist dit stuk in een aparte uitgave uit te geven. Vocalise staat voor een warme, zachte en koraalachtige klank die bij het publiek zeker in de smaak zal vallen.

This piece was inspired by a variety of music such as Broadway musicals, French cancan, and circus marches. A special rhythm pattern called “Ipponjime” (or “Sanbonjime”) is played by the percussion (3 + 3 + 3 + 1) in the first four measures.This is how people freely clap their hands when ceremonies or parties end in Japan. This custom of clapping hands reflects Japanese people’s spirit to readily move on to the next step. As the infectious work comes to its exciting conclusion every player shouts “yeah!”ensuri ng you will definitely hear rapturous applause!

Blue Rock is een werk in symfonische-rockstijl. Het begint met een expressieve ballad, met een solo voor altsaxofoon. Er volgt een sneller deel, dat is gebaseerd op een continue drumgroove en dat wordt gekenmerkt door een krachtigesyncopering en unisono melodielijnen voor het hele orkest. Als het hoogtepunt is bereikt, keert de ballad terug, hiermee krijgt het werk een luisterrijk slot.

Blue Rock est une pièce labellisée « rock symphonique ». La pièce s’ouvre avec une ballade expressive. Vient ensuite un passage plus rapide, fortement syncopé, qui évolue sur un groove de batterie solidement appuyé et qui développe des lignes mélodiques l’unisson. Lorsque la musique atteint sa densité maximale, la ballade initiale est réexposée, puis mène la composition vers une fin triomphante.

Why should rock musicians have all the fun? Now your band can experience the thrill of playing a piece in a classic 12-bar blues style. Many players are given the chance to show off their skills as a soloist before the work builds to a grand fortissimo finale with the whole band playin’ the blues!

The Mayor’s Blues, in 2005 geschreven voor het afscheid van burgemeester Remco Heite van de gemeente Weststellingwerf, is een klassieke blues over een twaalfmatig schema. Een korte fortissimo-inleiding maakt de weg vrij vooreen solo met het bluesthema. De begeleiding door trombones met plungers (gootsteenontstoppers) en de vibrafoon werkt hierbij sfeerverhogend. Het thema wordt in een vraag-en-antwoordspel herhaald door de rest van het orkest. Eenkorte fortissimopassage volgt en al gauw mogen zich enkele solisten presenteren als de muziek kalmeert. Na de solo’s volgt een herneming van de openingsmaten, waarna hele orkest zich vol overgave in de blues kan storten.

This fantastic, stirring fanfare was written with the composer?s wish that the young musicians performing it would fly into the bright future like pheasants. The first part of the piece is a fanfare, which is suitable for opening ceremonies, and the second part is a lush chorale-like movement. Cette fanfare brillante est commande du Lycée de Kashihara dans la Préfecture de Nara au Japon. L’emblème du lycée est un jeune faisan. l’écriture de cette pièce en deux mouvements, le compositeur a émis le vœu qu’ l’instar des faisans, les étudiants puissent voler vers un avenir radieux. Les deux parties peuvent s’enchaîner ou, au contraire, être interprétées séparément. Bien qu’il s’agisse d’une œuvre courte, l’histoire y est décrite avec authenticité et légèreté.

Questa fanfara brillante è un brano commissionato dal Liceo di Kashihara, della prefettura di Nara in Giappone. Scrivendo questo brano in due movimenti, il compositore ha espresso il desiderio che gli studenti possano volare come dei fagiani, verso un avvenire radioso. Le due parti possono essere eseguite insieme o interpretate separatamente. Benché la durata del brano sia abbastanza corta (circa due minuti), il tema è descritto con autenticit e leggerezza.

This piece was inspired by a variety of music such as Broadway musicals, French cancan, and circus marches. A special rhythm pattern called “Ipponjime” (or “Sanbonjime”) is played by the percussion (3 + 3 + 3 + 1) in the first four measures.This is how people freely clap their hands when ceremonies or parties end in Japan. This custom of clapping hands reflects Japanese people’s spirit to readily move on to the next step. As the infectious work comes to its exciting conclusion every player shouts “yeah!”ensuri ng you will definitely hear rapturous applause!

Aan dit werk liggen diverse muzikale inspiratiebronnen ten grondslag, zoals Broadwaymusicals, de Franse cancan en circusmarsen. Een Japans ritmepatroon komt in de eerste vier maten naar voren in het slagwerk. Het centrale deel bevatsolo’s voor xylofoon en piccolo, die in de smaak zullen vallen bij uw publiek, zeker wanneer de solisten al improviserend een aantal technische staaltjes laten horen. Indien gewenst kan de instrumentatie worden gewijzigd. Na hetsologedeelte komt het eerste thema terug en volgt er een opbouw naar een opwindend slot, waar iedere speler “yeah!” roept.
