Reginald Jacques est né en 1894 à Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire et a étudié au Collège de la Reine, à Oxford, où il devint plus tard organiste et directeur de la musique en 1926. Reginald Jacques a également été chef d'orchestre de la Société d'Oxford Orchestra de 1930 à 1936. De 1931 à 1960, il a été chef du Choeur Bach de Londres. En 1936 il fonda sa propre orchestre Jacques, qu'il a dirigé jusqu'en 1960. En 1954, il a été fait Commandeur de l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique. Il mourut en 1969. John Rutter est né à Londres en 1945 et a étudié la musique au Clare College, Cambridge. Ses compositions embrassent la musique chorale, orchestrale et instrumentale, et il a édité ou co-édité plusieurs anthologies chorale dont quatre pour des volumes de Carols chorales avec Sir David Willcocks et l'Oxford Choral Classics série. De 1975 à 1979, il a été directeur de la musique au Clare College, et en 1981 il a formé son propre choeur, les Cambridge Singers. The Gloria in Excelsis was written by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford for the coronation of HM King George V on 22 June 1911. It was an occasion of some note in the annals of British music, for Elgar's Coronation March and Parry's grand festival Te Deum were also heard for the first time that day. In addition, there was music by Thomas Tallis, Orlando Gibbons and Sir John Stainer, as well as by the Master of the King's Music and organist of St George's Chapel, Windsor, Sir Walter Parratt. It was published the following year as part of Stanford's Opus 128, the Festal Communion Service for voices and orchestra, which was also made available withthe accompaniment arranged by the composer for organ. Weltliches Repertoire. Par . With his Hebrew Choral Songbook, Ohad Stolarz presents a new collection of classics of the musical repertoire in Hebrew, arranged by him for mixed choir a cappella. Many of these pieces are published in Germany for the first time; almost all of them are first published as choral arrangements. The first volume contains ten sacred and paraliturgical songs that may be sung at various occasions. Among these are the feast of Passover, the ?Ten Days of Repentance? in the month of Tishré and the Sabbath.
