The term
xtreme is often used in
sports to indicate feats
that go beyond the
ordinary. The pieces in
Solo Xtreme were written
to encourage students to
achieve similar feats.
The early intermediate to
intermediate pieces
challenge students to
change locations, cross
hand-over-hand, play
large chords, use the
pedal to create color and
moods, and vary
articulations. At the
same time, they expand
technique and
musicianship. Titles:

Kolja
Lessing dedicates this
recording to Krzysztof
Meyer on the occasion of
the composer's eightieth
birthday in 2023. Meyer,
one of the most important
Polish composers of his
generation, taught for
many years as professor
of composition at the
Cologne College of Music
and numbers among the
important bridge-builders
between Polish and German
cultural life. As a pupil
of Krzysztof Penderecki
and Nadia Boulanger, he
remarkably manages to
integrate important
communicative elements
into an avant-garde
musical language of great
suggestive power and
narrative charm. In the
works written over a
period of more than 40
years, Meyer proves
himself to be an expert
with profound knowledge
of the technical
possibilities of the
violin. Kolja Lessing and
Rainer Maria Klaas's
interpretations,
developed with the
composer, captivate by
means of their
authenticity, by dint of
their deep understanding
of a music that is both
expressive and
euphonious, and through
which a distinguished,
deeply humanistic
personality speaks.

Lehms, Georg
Christian.
The
cantata Widerstehe doch
der Sunde BWV 54 is now
one of Johann Sebastian
Bach's most popular solo
cantatas. The short text,
which comprises three
movements, comes from a
1711 collection of
cantata texts by the
Darmstadt court poet
Christian Lehms, and
warns in drastic terms
that no sinner will
inherit the kingdom of
God. It is certainly no
coincidence that Bach
allocated this text to an
alto voice, then often
regarded as a symbol for
the repentant sinner. The
cantata comes from Bach's
Weimar period and only
survives in a fair copy
of the score by Johann
Gottfried Walther (music
text ) and Johann Tobias
Krebs (vocal text
underlay). This didn't 't
present any difficulties
in preparing an edition.
In Lehms' word book the
cantata is allocated to
Oculi Sunday (the third
Sunday in Lent), but can
also readily be sung on
other occasions in the
church year. Score

With the
publication of his
hypnotic Pater noster,
Carus proudly presents
Jacek Sykulski as a new
composer in the Carus
Contemporary series.
Whilst Sykulski has
achieved worldwide
success as Director of
the Academic Choir at the
University of Poznan and
the Poznan Boys' Choir,
as a composer he has
remained a well-guarded
secret until now. In his
sacred compositions he
combines in music the
deeply Catholic-imbued
tradition of his country
with his own
compositional technique,
characterized by a
tremendous vocal
sensuousness of sound and
a conscious use of
tonality enriched by
dissonance. His Pater
noster was composed in
2009 and revised in 2015
for a performance by the
RIAS Kammerchor in
Berlin. The first section
of this three-part work
for eight-part choir
(tenors and sopranos also
split into three) begins
with the invocation Pater
noster homophonically in
A minor. This then
introduces the Gregorian
liturgical melody of the
Our Father canonically
and aleatorically, like a
contemplative
congregational hymn. The
middle section calls out
Dein Reich komme in
increasingly insistent
rhythmic declamation,
more demanding, with
hypnotic repetitions and
intensifications. In the
last section, Sykulski
returns to the opening
harmonies, but now a
semitone lower on A flat,
followed by an
intensification at the
words sed libera nos a
malo - and delivery us
from evil once more; this
ends unresolved in a
diatonic cluster on A
flat as the paradigm of
our imperfect earthly
existence. The
eight-minute
unaccompanied composition
is extremely singable,
impressive, and not
difficult to master. The
piece is suitable for use
in the liturgy, as well
as in concerts and
competitions.

Given that
appendices have since
been included in other
volumes, it now seems
appropriate to compile an
appendix for Volume 1A in
the form of a separate
publication, Volume 1C of
the series. Even with a
whole volume available,
however, it is impossible
to include all known
arrangements. Such a
publication would be of
disproportionate size: it
would require about 600
pages, due largely to the
two complete or
near-complete sets of
concerto arrangements.
The present volume thus
includes only selections
from these sets of
concerto arrangements and
also only a selection
from Edward
Finch’s complete
set of arrangements in
the form of
transverse-flute sonatas.
The smaller sets of
arrangements—eithe
r as solo sonatas or as
trio sonatas—are
included in their
entirety. The
available arrangements
fall into three distinct
categories: solo sonatas,
trio sonatas, and
concertos. There are
fourteen arrangements by
Edward Finch for
transverse flute with
figured bass; they are
found in the so-called
Armstrong-Finch
manuscript and comprise a
full set of twelve plus
two duplicate versions.
Four of these
arrangements are included
in the present volume.
Three more arrangements
for transverse flute or
recorder with figured
bass are found in
anthologies of sonatas
for these instruments
published in the 1720s;
they are all of them
edited here.
Geminiani’s
Sonatas VII-XII were
transformed into trio
sonatas by Francesco
Barsanti and published in
this format in 1727.
These arrangements are
included here in complete
form as well. A
near-complete set of
concerto
arrangements—Sonat
a XI is
missing—was
composed by Charles
Avison and a complete set
by Gerhard Christoph
Raupach, both sets
composed probably in the
1730s. From each of these
two sets, two examples
were selected for
inclusion in the present
volume. They are
supplemented by single
concerto arrangements by
William Hayes (after
Sonata IV) and Johan
Helmich Roman (after
Sonata VI), composed at
all probability in the
1730s as well. None of
these concerto
arrangements was
published in the
eighteenth century.

Richard
Hageman (1881-1966) was a
born into a family of
musicians. As a pianist,
he performed concerts
from the age of six, and
his mastery of this
instrument is evident in
the intricate
accompaniment of this
piece. After coming to
America, (originally as
accompanist to touring
French singer Yvette
Guilbert), he worked for
a period of years as a
conductor and pianist for
the Metropolitan Opera in
New York. It was during
this period of time that
he composed Do Not Go, My
Love for solo voice,
originally dedicating it
to the operatic tenor,
George Hamlin. Hageman's
later career included
work in Hollywood, first
as a conductor, but later
as a film-score composer
and actor. Do Not Go, My
Love is well-known among
classical soloists, and
many recordings exist.
The SSA version of this
American standard brings
a vocal classic to
younger singers who might
not yet possess the
dexterity to perform the
original solo.

(1861-1941) was an Indian

Tagore's expertise

massacre. There are five
Tagore museums in
Bangladesh and three in
India; at least three
universities bear his
name. Do Not Go, My Love
is taken from The
Gardener, a collection of
poems translated from
Bengali by Tagore and
published in 1915. Number
34 in the collection, and
taken by itself, the poem
might be interpreted as
someone watching over the
deathbed of a lover or
child; however, the
larger narrative woven
through The Gardener
suggests a romantic
relationship being clung
to by the speaker.
 . Richard Hageman
(1881–1966) was a
born into a family of
musicians. As a pianist,
he performed concerts
from the age of six, and
his mastery of this
instrument is evident in
the intricate
accompaniment of this
piece. After coming to
America, (originally as
accompanist to touring
French singer Yvette
Guilbert), he worked for
a period of years as a
conductor and pianist for
the Metropolitan Opera in
New York. It was during
this period of timeÂ
that he composed Do Not
Go, My Love for solo
voice, originally
dedicating it to the
operatic tenor, George
Hamlin. Hageman’s
later career included
work in Hollywood, first
as a conductor, but later
as a film-score composer
and actor. Do Not Go, My
Love is well-known among
classical soloists, and
many recordings exist.
The SSA version of this
American standard brings
a vocal
“classic†to
younger singers who might
not yet possess the
dexterity to perform the
original
solo.Rabindranath Tagore
(1861–1941) was an
Indian polymath; someone
who possesses deep
knowledge and
understanding of many
disparate subjects.
Tagore’s expertise
included the visual arts,
music, and poetry. Tagore
won the Nobel Prize in
Literature in 1913,
contributing to his
receiving knighthood from
King George V in 1915,
but Tagore renounced his
knighthood after the 1919
Jallianwala Bagh
massacre. There are five

Arches
em> is a piece for the
developing string
orchestra that derives
its title from the
national park in Utah. I
visited the Arches
National Monument in June
of 2003 during a
cross-country trip. The
Delicate Arch is the
recognizable landmark
from this beautiful
national park. In order
to see this remarkable
natural formation up
close, you have to hike a
trail of over two miles.
The music in this piece
is inspired by my journey
to see the arch. Once
there, you are treated to
a vast panoramic view of
the golden Utah landscape
that leaves one
breathless.
Arches is an
effective piece in
teaching
pizzicato
playing as a melodic
device. Most often,
pizzicato is
used as an effect or
punctuation mark to
larger melodic ideas.
There is a brief arco
section to provide
contrast and build up to
the dramatic return of
the main
pizzicato
melody. Each section in
the ensemble has a
statement of the melody.
It is important to think
linearly in addition to
vertically when playing
these pizzicato
lines. Forward motion is
of up-most importance in
terms of making musical
phrases out of these

Dit boek
is het vervolg op
Altvioolwereld 1.
De methode kan zowel
individueel als in de
groepsles worden
gebruikt. Naast het boek
bevat de methode een
website waar je onder
andere demo- en
begeleidingstracks kunt
downloaden. Verder vind
je
demonstratievideo’
s en pdf-bestanden met
begeleidingspartijen voor
altviool of piano op de
website.
Deel 2 van
deze methode bevat voor-
en naspeeloefeningen,
eenvoudige technische
opdrachten en liedjes die
je uit je hoofd kunt
spelen. Omdat de
leerlingen ook thuis goed
moeten weten wat ze
moeten doen, zijn de
opdrachten heel precies
omschreven aan de hand
van tekst, foto’s
en tabulatuur en zijn ze
vaak met
voorbeeldvideo’s
ondersteund. Vergeleken
met deel 1 bevat dit
tweede deel meer liedjes
en oefeningen die in
notenschrift zijn
genoteerd.
In feite
slaat
Altvioolwereld een
brug tussen het
traditionele leren via
notenschrift en het op
gehoor leren zoals
gebeurt in het
Suzuki-onderwijs en in de
pop-, jazz- en
volksmuziek.

The
harmonic basis for this
composition is found from
analysing sounds of
individual instruments,
with the non-harmonic
sounds produced on double
bass and bass flute,
these provide a model for
the chord structure of
the piece. The harmonic
energy of the piece is
provided through the
treatment of timbre as a
system, which is formed
from the categorisation
of instruments and the
sounds they produce. The
instruments are divided
into different categories
according to how and
where they place
themselves along an axis
whose end points are
either clear or noise
like sounds. In this
approach clear, clean
sounds are considered
consonances with noises
as dissonances. Work for
Chamber Ensemble, Tape
and Live Electronics.
