Danish. Norgard
writes of his work: Lila
is a Sanskrit word for
playing with the
elements, and I chose it
as the title of the
chamber work I composed
in 1972 because its
coolly systematic play
(with overtones and
undertones in the
infinity sequences and a
spectrum of Golden
Sections in the rhythms)
is characteristic of the
period just before I
wrote my Third Symphony
(1973-75).The work was
given its first
performance in Venice, in
the Teatro La Fenice on
9th September 1972,
alongside Kagel's
Anagram, from which Lila
borrowed its
instrumentation, since it
was commissioned for a
first performance by the
Prisma Ensemble along
with Anagram, with Tamas
Veto, to whom it is
dedicated, conducting.
Ensemble: 4
percussionists (gong, 3
tam-tams, crotales,
glockenspiel, tubular
bells, celesta,
vibraphone, xylophone), 2
pianos, 2 harps, flute
(as well as flute in G

Italian. Text: Giovanni
de Gamerra. On 13
December 1769 Leopold
Mozart and his son
Wolfgang set out on their
first tour of Italy. It
was not until 28 March
1771 that they finally
returned to Salzburg. The
trip brought the young
composer two commissions
for opere serie. In March
1770 he was commissioned
to write Mitridate, K.87
(74a), for the 1770-71
Carneval season at the
Regio Ducal Teatro in
Milan. Mozart started
work on the opera in
Bologna on 29 September
1770, and the premiere
duly took place on the
Feast of St. Stephen (26
December) in 1770. The
second, Lucio Silla (K.
135), again commissioned
for the 1771-72 Carneval
season in Milan,
doubtless resulted from
the success of Mitridate.
News of the commission
reached the Mozarts in
March 1771 in Verona,
where they had stopped on
their return to Salzburg.
(At roughly the same time
Wolfgang received an
invitation from Vienna to
supply a serenata
teatrale for the wedding
of Archduke Ferdinand,
the third son of Maria
Theresia, scheduled to
take place in Milan in
October 1771. This
invitation ultimately
resulted in Ascanio in
Alba, K. 111.)

teatro d’opera,
all’interno
dell’intero
patrimonio musicale del
repertorio cólto, ma
per dir meglio,
all’interno del
portato culturale che ha
investito –
tramite la sua nascita
– dapprima
l’Italia e poi
l’Europa tutta,
mantiene inalterato nel
tempo un riconoscimento
di grande valore. In
virtù di questo
primato,
un’attenzione
particolare gli è
conferita anche in questa
sede, nella quale si è
voluto condurre lo
studente alla scoperta di
tre importanti
capolavori. Diversamen
te da quanto si sia
portati a credere,
l’opera non è
unicamente repertorio per
vecchi e canuti
parrucconi, ma è
spettacolo in grado di
catturare anche un
pubblico d’etÃ
scolare. Attraverso le
molteplici espressioni
con le quali
l’opera si
manifesta (musica e
parola su tutte, ma anche
gesto e danza, insieme a
gestione dello spazio
scenico e della luce,
elementi che definiscono
tutti la complessa
dimensione
drammaturgica), il teatro
d’opera si pone
come spettacolo
multimediale ante
litteram capace come
pochi di riassumere
esemplarmente in un solo
concetto rappresentazioni
di pienezza e
complessità culturale
assai variegate. Nel
tratteggiare la ricchezza
di un viaggio alla
scoperta
dell’opera, si
potrebbe affermare che
addentrarsi nelle
narrazioni di un Figaro,
di un Don Giovanni, di un
Rigoletto sia un
po’ come se da un
solo assaggio si
degustassero più
sapori, come se si
riuscisse a cogliere
l’intero panorama
solamente sbirciando da
un foro. In questa
operazione si possono
identificare gli estremi
di una visione
ologrammatica della
realtà , quella che ci
consente di mettere in
evidenza come una parte
sia inscritta nel tutto,
ma quanto il tutto stesso
costituisca una parte.
Questo apparente
paradosso, che ci sembra
possa essere
rappresentato anche dal
teatro musicale, è
alla base di
quell’atteggiament
o che ci consente di
evitare operazioni di
riduzionismo e di
semplificazione, e di
aumentare invece i
livelli di relazione e di
complessità con le
esperienze che ci
accadono. Il
quaderno si rivolge ad
allievi non digiuni dei
primi rudimenti di
alfabetizzazione sonora
ed esplora – data
la specificità della
collana –
soprattutto la dimensione
musicale, anche se non
tralascia di guidare
all’indagine delle
relazioni che la musica
ha con gli altri
linguaggi che
costruiscono lo
spettacolo. Non è
un caso, per di più,
che ancora una volta e
come costante
metodologica che
accompagna tutti i
quaderni, ci si avvalga
anche qui del segno, del
gesto, della parola come
strategie per la
conoscenza dei mezzi
espressivi e per
l’esplorazione dei
significati, tutti
meccanismi necessari ad
innescare un ascolto
attivo. La scelta di
opere e autori si è
imposta quasi
naturalmente: Mozart,
Rossini, Verdi sono
ovunque riconoscibili
come figure emblematiche
del genere operistico.
Nessuno potrebbe
affermare di aver
assaggiato la Sacher
Torte senza essere stato
a Vienna, così come
nessuno potrebbe
sostenere di aver
assaporato l’opera
senza aver avuto
occasione di avvicinarsi
a questi tre
autori. L’inten
to del quaderno è
dunque quello di fornire
supporti
all’allievo e
all’insegnante per
favorire scoperte, per
far nascere
curiosità . Gli
obiettivi del lavoro si
perdono però a metÃ
strada nel momento in cui
non si ponga a
conclusione del percorso
la visione
dell’opera. Lâ
€™auspicio e
l’invito è
dunque quello di uscire
dalle aule e di recarsi,
senza esitazioni, a
teatro. Il valore
estetico e il potere
seduttivo di un
capolavoro sono in grado
di disvelarsi talvolta
senza che si operi nessun
tipo di facilitazione
(seppur la preparazione
del campo, come questo
testo vuole dimostrare,
non sia certo operazione
inutile); ma, quasi
certamente, nessun
magnetico incanto
potrà fuoriuscire se
ci si arresterÃ
unicamente alle
esperienze di queste
pagine. $25.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 3 to 4 weeks

196288126348. What
is being presented here
is the piano vocal score
of Le Villi, Giacomo
Puccini's first stage
work, the full score of
which was published by
Casa Ricordi (NR 141755)
in 2020.The premiere of
Le Villi took place at
the Teatro Regio in Turin
on 27 December 1884,and
was followed by a
Milanese performance at
Teatro alla Scala on 24
January 1885: both
productions were quite
well received by critics
and public alike. The
critical edition by
Martin Deasy is based on
the autograph score that
Puccini initially
prepared for the one-act
version (Willis), and
later modified for the
two-act, revised version
(Villi). Pursuing a
groundbreaking
philological approach,
the editor has,
furthermore, taken into
proper consideration the
contemporaneous printed
editions of the piano
vocal score, which
constitute, in his view,
the principal collateral
sources, if one is to
consider the particular
genesis of this work. For
it is certain that
Puccini, upon entering
the Sonzogno competition,
submitted a score of
Willis that lacked proper
orchestrationin a few
pages and displayed,
above all, incomplete
vocal lines. However, he
also provided a
manuscript reduction for
piano and vocal score
(now lost, except for the
final Number of Willis)
that was undoubtedly more
detailed, as far as the
vocal lines were
concerned. The editor
demonstrates that the
vocal material realized
for the first performance
of Willis was not derived
from the autograph score,
but from the lost score
reduction. The latter
also served as the basis
for the preparation of
Ricordi's printed edition
of the piano vocal
score. $37.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

nizetti's Lucrezia Borgia
was premiered at Milan's

considered one of the
composer's most important
and innovative operas of
the 1830s. Although,
because of censorship
issues, particularly in
the south of Italy, it
was initially slow to
become popular, by the
late 1830s it had become
one of the composer's
most popular operas, both
in Italy and abroad, and
remained an essential
part of the composer's
oeuvre until at least the
end of the nineteenth
century. Remarkable for
its daring subject matter
(with an unconventional,
forceful heroine), it is
also renowned for its
challenging mixture of
the comic and the tragic,
something very unusual at
the time and clearly an
important influence on
Giuseppe Verdi's middle
period masterpieces. The
present reduction for

from the critical edition

Donizetti's autograph

for the premiere, on
several printed editions
of voice and piano, and
on numerous additional
scores of the period. It
presents for the first

resistenze della censura,
soprattutto nel sud

inizialmente una lenta
diffusione, dalla fine
degli anni '30
dell'Ottocento essa
divenne uno dei lavori
piu popolari e

in memory of Salvador
Espriu by Xavier
Benguerel was
commissioned by the
Torroella de Montgri
International Music
Festival for a double
commemoration: on the one
hand, to celebrate the
tenth anniversary of the
Festival, and on the
other, in remembrance of
Catalan poet Salvador
Espriu in the fifth year
after his death. This
concert, which was held
on 5 October, was a
brilliant closing gala
performance and it was
repeated twice on 6 and 7
October at the Palau de
la Musica Catalana in
Barcelona. It was
performed by the
Orchestra and Choir of
the Gran Teatro del
Liceo, with soloists
Enriqueta Tarres,
soprano; Nelibel
Martinez, mezzo soprano;
Eduard Gimenez, tenor;
and Carlos Chausson,
baritone, with the
additional collaboration
of baritone Lluis Llach,
conducted by Romano
Gandolfi. In my
opinion, this work by
Benguerel is a piece that
was written with passion
and sincerity, with great
strength and depth, and
it contains some very
beautiful passages. It is
written in a language
through which, without
abandoning his current
musical thoughts,
Benguerel manages to
communicate with the
audience in a dense work
that lasts for an hour
and a half. It is
interspersed with seven
poems by Espriu on the
subject of death, some
sung and others recited,
which gives the Requiem
great contrasts from a
musical and linguistic
point of view -in
comparison with the Latin
texts normally used in a
requiem mass-, but within
a successful and coherent
unity. The performers
certainly proved their
worth, but much of the
hard work that went into
preparing the piece can
be attributed not only to
the performers, the
composer and the poet in
tribute to whom the work
was written, but also to
the conductor Romano
Gandolfi, who is largely
responsible for the
success of the three
performances of this
Requiem. Benguerel
himself says of the work:
This Requiem is linked to
my previous work, the
Llibre Vermell, and it
has been written without
making any concessions,
but with a true wish to
communicate with the
audience. I've got past
the stage of musical
experiments and I'm now
working on bridging the
gap between composer and
audience, which I'm sure
will be good for
both. --Comments

direccion de Romano
Gandolfi. A mi
entender, la obra de
Benguerel es una
partitura escrita con
pasion y sinceridad,
posee una gran solidez,
es profunda y contiene
pasajes de una gran
belleza. Esta escrita en
un lenguaje con el que
Benguerel, sin renunciar
a su actual pensamiento
musical, alcanza la
comunicacion con el
publico en una obra densa
que dura una hora y
media. La intercalacion
de siete poemas de Espriu
relacionados con el tema
de la muerte, en una
interpretacion cantada o
recitada, segun los
casos, otorga al Requiem
grandes contrastes desde
un punto de vista musical

contraposicion con los
textos latinos propios de

pero dentro de una unidad
conseguida y coherente.
La labor de los
interpretes demostro su
categoria y el trabajo
exhaustivo en la
preparacion de la obra,
que, ademas de los
interpretes, el
compositor y el poeta
homenajeado, tuvo otro
gran protagonista en la
persona del director
Romano Gandolfi, a quien
se debe una gran parte
del exito obtenido en las

Benguerel ha dicho de la
obra: Este Requiem

escrito sin concesiones,
pero con una voluntad
real de comunicacion con
el publico. La epoca de
los experimentos

commemoration: on the one
hand, to celebrate the
tenth anniversary of the
Festival, and on the
other, in remembrance of
Catalan poet Salvador
Espriu in the fifth year
after his death. This
concert, which was held
on 5 October, was a
brilliant closing gala
performance and it was
repeated twice on 6 and 7
October at the Palau de
la Musica Catalana in
Barcelona. It was
performed by the
Orchestra and Choir of
the Gran Teatro del
Liceo, with soloists
Enriqueta Tarres,
soprano; Nelibel
Martinez, mezzo soprano;
Eduard Gimenez, tenor;
and Carlos Chausson,
baritone, with the
additional collaboration
of baritone Lluis Llach,
conducted by Romano
Gandolfi. In my
opinion, this work by
Benguerel is a piece that
was written with passion
and sincerity, with great
strength and depth, and
it contains some very
beautiful passages. It is
written in a language
through which, without
abandoning his current
musical thoughts,
Benguerel manages to
communicate with the
audience in a dense work
that lasts for an hour
and a half. It is
interspersed with seven
poems by Espriu on the
subject of death, some
sung and others recited,
which gives the Requiem
great contrasts from a
musical and linguistic
point of view -in
comparison with the Latin
texts normally used in a
requiem mass-, but within
a successful and coherent
unity. The performers
certainly proved their
worth, but much of the
hard work that went into
preparing the piece can
be attributed not only to
the performers, the
composer and the poet in
tribute to whom the work
was written, but also to
the conductor Romano
Gandolfi, who is largely
responsible for the
success of the three
performances of this
Requiem. Benguerel
himself says of the work:
This Requiem is linked to
my previous work, the
Llibre Vermell, and it
has been written without
making any concessions,
but with a true wish to
communicate with the
audience. I've got past
the stage of musical
experiments and I'm now
working on bridging the
gap between composer and
audience, which I'm sure
will be good for
both. --Comments

s del Espanol: El Requiem
a la memoria de Salvador
Espriu de Xavier
Benguerel ha sido
compuesto por encargo del
Festival Internacional de
Musica de Torroella de
Montgri para una doble
conmemoracion: por una
parte, el decimo
aniversario del Festival;
por otra, el recuerdo de
la figura del poeta
catalan Salvador Espriu
en el quinto ano de su
fallecimiento. Este
concierto, celebrado el
dia 5 de octubre,
constituyo una sesion de
gala y de clausura
brillante y tuvo una
doble repeticion los dias
6 y 7en el Palau de la
Musica Catalana de
Barcelona. Fueron sus
interpretes la Orquesta y
el Coro del Gran Teatro
del Liceo, con los
solistas vocales
Enriqueta Tarres,
soprano; Nelibel
Martinez, mezzo; Eduard
Gimenez, tenor; y Carlos
Chausson, baritono, con
la colaboracion del
tambien baritono Lluis
Llach. Todos bajo la
direccion de Romano
Gandolfi. A mi
entender, la obra de
Benguerel es una
partitura escrita con
pasion y sinceridad,
posee una gran solidez,
es profunda y contiene
pasajes de una gran
belleza. Esta escrita en
un lenguaje con el que
Benguerel, sin renunciar
a su actual pensamiento
musical, alcanza la
comunicacion con el
publico en una obra densa
que dura una hora y
media. La intercalacion
de siete poemas de Espriu
relacionados con el tema
de la muerte, en una
interpretacion cantada o
recitada, segun los
casos, otorga al Requiem
grandes contrastes desde
un punto de vista musical
y lingŸistico à en
contraposicion con los
textos latinos propios de
una misa de requiem Ã,
pero dentro de una unidad
conseguida y coherente.
La labor de los
interpretes demostro su
categoria y el trabajo
exhaustivo en la
preparacion de la obra,
que, ademas de los
interpretes, el
compositor y el poeta
homenajeado, tuvo otro
gran protagonista en la
persona del director
Romano Gandolfi, a quien
se debe una gran parte
del exito obtenido en las
tres audiciones de este
Requiem. El propio
Benguerel ha dicho de la
obra: Este Requiem
entronca con mi obra
anterior, el Llibre
Vermell, y ha sido
escrito sin concesiones,
pero con una voluntad
real de comunicacion con
el publico. La epoca de
los experimentos
musicales ya se me paso y
he entrado en una nueva
etapa de acercamiento
entre el compositor y el
publico que, estoy
convencido, beneficiara a
ambos. --Comentario

- Vivaldi - It. - Intro
in It./Eng. -. The
present reduction derives
from the critical edition
of the score, published
in this catalog in
November 2019. Antonio
Vivaldi's La Dorilla, a
heroic-pastoral opera on
a libretto by Antonio
Maria Lucchini, was
premiered at the Teatro
Sant'Angelo in Venice on
6 November 1726. Six
years later it was
revived in a much
shortened and altered
form at the Sporck
Theatre in Prague. In
1734 it returned for the
last time to the Venetian
stage at the Teatro Sant
Angelo, where, despite
being greatly revised, it
was once again
successful. Many of its
recitatives had been
shortened and several
arias replaced, some with
movements borrowed from
other operas by Vivaldi
and some with arias taken
from ones by other
composers, such as Johann
Adolf Hasse, Geminiano
Giacomelli, Domenico
Sarro and Leonardo Leo.
The adaptation was the
work of the Venetian man
of letters Bartolomeo
Vitturi, who adjusted the
libretto with the precise
aim of satisfying the
demands of the public,
which wished to hear the
most famous pieces by the
composers who were
fashionable in those
years. This vocal-score
edition includes a
synthetic introduction of
the historical context,
the description of the
main source employed and

The Suite on
Galician songs was
written in 1899 and
debuted on 31 October
that same year, as part
of a series of concerts
organised by the
Philharmonic Society of
Barcelona at the Teatro
Lirico, under the
direction of Joan Lamote
de Grignon.
The
work is made up of four
movements: I. Canto de la
manana (‘Morning
song'), also known as En
la montana (‘In the
mountains'), II. Danza
Scherzo (Galician folk
dance), III. Morrina
(‘Homesickness')
and IV. La Fiesta
(finale). The entire
composition is laced with
Galician folk melodies,
which serve as the
pretext for developing a
piece that is entirely
descriptive and scenic in
nature, by means of a
meticulous and precise
orchestration of great
technical and folkloric
interest. The work
reveals not only
Granados' great technical
expertise as
orchestrator, but also
his imagination and
intelligence when
recreating the most
distinctive sounds of
traditional Galician folk
music. He achieves this
effect through a
masterful use of
instrumentation and
experimentation
throughout the 23 minute
duration of this
magnificent suite. $56.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 4 to 6 weeks
