As of this publishing, over 137,000 people have found my one video collection of funeral hymns on YouTube, not including separate postings of each individual song. Because of this it's been on my mind for a long time to write a funeral song, but it was somehow just never the right time until just a few weeks ago when this one came pouring out in 5 minutes flat [which does not happen often, I can assure you!]. The culmination of years of playing for funerals, a bachelor degree in theology and sacred music, and many more years of writing and playing music through good times and also times full of grief, Lord of All Our Days is my very best and heartfelt attempt to serve those who are also dealing with the absolute heartache of loss, be it the acute, fresh grieving of just losing someone or the flashbacks that come time and time again, years and even decades later.This song carefully and tenderly handles the true earth-shaking grief that it is to lose someone you love, while holding out a strong hope of the life to come for those who trust God. I had a very difficult time recording it without being moved to tears over and over, and I pray it will reach many in need of comfort, being of service to anyone who is looking for a Christian, Biblical funeral hymn for a memorial service or a celebration of life service. This is the exact guitar version I used to record the Outdoor Acoustic Version of Lord of All Our Days, as heard on all streaming platforms. It is intended for use as a burial song, sung softly and reverently accompanied by a quiet guitar at the internment portion of a funeral service if music is desired at the graveside. I recommend playing it on capo 3 to match the original or a few higher to match your voice. You may also prefer to get the other version in C major and save using a capo. This version is just easier for a slightly more beginner guitarist. One other recommendation is to play it even lower so people can sing very quietly, i.e. capo 1 or even no capo at all, depending on the voice of the person leading the song.Also available, by searching Stacey Plays Hymns and the song title on this site, are the following versions:Piano Vocal in Bb Minor to match the original recording [vocal range: Bb3-Bb4]Piano Vocal in C Major for easier playing and a better congregational vocal rangeLead Sheet for piano or guitar in C Major - best key for singing without a capoA backup music mp3 track for soloists to perform with in a service, including the full backup choral arrangement.For other formats including large print, a different key to match a soloist's preferred range, or piano solo for a matching prelude or postlude, please write me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. Louis Lambert (1863). ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ After a family trip to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Ford Theater, I created a concert band arrangement to solidify the trip in my mind using a popular Civil War song from the North, “Abraham’s Daughter,†and a song used by both North and South, “Johnny Comes Marching Home.†♫ Music was a means for soldiers to release the tensions of war. By December 1861 the Union army had 28,000 musicians in 618 bands, not counting soldiers who travelled with violins and other musical instruments. Soldiers often sang as they marched by day and at night in camp. Musical duels were not uncommon between Union and Confederate bands. This idea inspired the last section of the arranger where the 2 songs are played against each other. ♫ Septimus Winner wrote “Abraham’s Daughter†in 1861 for the Minstrel stage. “Abraham’s Daughter†pictures a fresh recruit that is on his way to Washington DC to be processed and trained for future battles. ♫ Given the unpublished verses we have, Abraham’s Daughter was undoubtedly sung and embellished by Union soldiers as they travelled from battlefield to battlefield. ♫ Winner is also known for writing “Ten Little Injuns†“Listen to the Mockingbird†and “Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?†♫ Abraham Lincoln had 4 sons, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas (Tad); but no daughters. So, who is Abraham’s daughter? ♫ Oh! Should you ask me who she am, Columbia is her name, sir; She is the child of Abraham, Or Uncle Sam, the same, sir. Now if I fight, why ain't I right? And don't you think I oughter. The volunteers are a-pouring in From every loyal quarter, And I'm goin' down to Washington To fight for Abraham's daughter. ♫ At the beginning of the war, the majority of soldiers, North and South, were fighting to uphold their view of government, each side justifying its position by quoting the Constitution. Southern States saw each State as a sovereign, independent nation. Abraham Lincoln insisted that the United States were one nation. For Abraham Lincoln, the purpose of the war was to preserve the Union. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784312).  If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake!  The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes! I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.  As with those exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.• Choose a tempo• Choose a dynamic. • Choose an articulation/style.  One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.  Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping 5 lines to play the same set in a new key.  If you want an additional challenge in terms of range, play them in different octaves or change the clef and key signature to expand the set. For example, if you play the F Major example in Tenor Clef, change the key signature to C Major and you have a version that is based an octave higher than the C Major version as written later. Additionally, you can change the Key. Play them in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.  The variations are endless!  All Donut Etudes with the same version number are compatible so you can play them in mixed duets with one person on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2.  Enjoy!

I chose places and themes that were compelling for me for a variety of reasons. The first movement, Wupatki, is based on the feeling of expanse and solitude I experience when I am visiting this ancient pueblo and the stunning vistas of the Painted Desert. The Song of Friendship, a charming and simple tune was introduced to me by Gary Gorman, a Native American student of mine in the early 1990’s. I fashioned a simple arrangement and composed some original tunes to accompany it. This movement is dedicated to my colleague, clarinetist Michael Sullivan, who was dying from a rare form of cancer during the days I was finishing this movement. The day I finished the piece, I realized that it needed to end as if it never had a chance to finish, much like Michael’s life that was so tragically cut short. Quite by chance, the music ends at bar 43-the exact number of years of Michael’s brief life. Wind, title of the third movement, was composed to give musical interpretation to this element of relentless fury we experience during several months out of the year in this region. It springs up then dies down, only to resurface with more force and resilience.

This famous Tango by Villoldo has had many variations, arrangements and recordings during its life, but here if is arranged for 2 flutes with piano accompaniment. There is nothing more complicated than sixteenth’s and eighth’s and the range is 2 octaves with the highest note being top E.
I have tried to keep the flute parts equal in terms of length and complexity so there is no no’1 and no’2.
It has been put at early intermediate level but the YouTube link has the whole score for you to assess suitability. Full score is 9 pages and it is around 3 mins in length.
It would work very well for concerts/recitals, show and productions, as well as being something a little different to play. Price is for score and parts.
