Dark House is a setting of the seventh canto of Alfred Tennyson's elegiac In Memoriam A.H.H. Begun after the untimely death in 1833 of his beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallam, In Memoriam is an intense expression of the poet's grief and search for hope in the face of profound loss. The seventh canto is a description of Hallam's house and the longing of the poet for the companionship from which he once drew such joy. For Tennyson, Hallam's absence now casts a dreary pallor over the surrounding scenery that even the rising sun fails to dispel. Vocal score. Approx. duration: 3-4 minutes.

Keith was born in New Zealand in 1967 and later moved, with his parents, to live in Queensland, Australia. There he took guitar lessons and entered local talent competitions. In 1983 he was a contestant on the Australian TV talent show New Faces. A few years later, he began making inroads into the Australian country music scene.In 1990, Urban signed with record label EMI in Australia and released his first self-titled album. Then in 1992 he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in the hope of furthering his career and seven years later released a self-titled American debut album. It is intended to be sung in the evening. What is unusual about the hymn is the position of its doxology (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) in the middle of the hymn, rather than after the last verse, as is common in most settings of psalms, canticles and many hymns from the last 200 years. This enables it to retain a biblical freshness, in which the Son of God is the main focus of attention, with theological reflection secondary to the primary reality that he is the giver of life.
