The story is set in the early years of the 20th century.The Girl I mean to be is a powerful and inspirational song about self-discovery and empowerment. The song is a ballad about a young woman struggling to find her place in the world. She constantly feels judged and compared to others, and she's tired of feeling like she's not good enough.However, the song's protagonist eventually realizes that she is the only one who can define who she is. She sings, I'm the only one who knows what I want to be. She realizes that she doesn't need to change herself to please others. She is perfect the way she is.The song ends with the protagonist declaring that she is going to be the girl she wants to be. She sings, I'm gonna be the girl I wanna be, no matter what they say. She is determined to be herself, no matter what others think.

I’D RATHER BE BLUE, THINKING OF YOU (than be happy with somebody else) was originally recorded by pioneering American songstress Fanny Brice in 1929. Since then it was featured in her biography “Funny Girl†when it was sung (and danced on roller-skates!) by Barbra Streisand. This is a FLEXIBLE ORCHESTRATION which implies that it is intended for community bands, bands in small schools, club bands etc. and can be played, not only by full bands or orchestras but by incomplete bands and bands that are made up of almost any mixture of instrument that you can imagine. To achieve this, the music is made up of five “Parts†or voices which are defined by pitch and key e.g. Part II Bb – Trumpet, Clarinet, Tenor saxophone etc. To those five are added additional parts for percussion, tuned percussion, piano and voice. I should mention here that, besides regular band or orchestral instruments, it is possible to include less used instruments such as harmonica, piano-accordion, ukulele, electric guitar – the list is endless! Lastly, it is possible to use flexible orchestrations for chamber groups of any size. They can be chosen by instrument family e.g. Woodwind quintet, or by particular instrument e.g. Clarinet Trio.

This is an arrangement of The White Cliffs of Dover that will be provide an effective addition to any ensembles repertoire, without presenting too many challenges in rehearsal. Although the presentation of the music will be enhanced by having a full band, the music has been arranged with 5 parts, thus could be performed by as few as 5 musicians.A wide variety of instruments and transpositions are included in for each part which should be able to cover all bases, however if you require a transposition that is not included then please contact the arranger at wesleycarroll @ icloud.com  we and he will be able to organise this for you.

Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my lightBe Thou My Vision is a traditional Christian hymn, which can be traced to Ireland but is now sung in English-speaking churches around the world and is often sung around St. Patrick’s Day. The music is the Irish folk song, Slane referring to Slane Hill. Slane Hill is about ten miles from Tara in County Meath. It was on Slane Hill around 433 AD that St. Patrick defied a royal edict by lighting candles on Easter Eve. High King Logaire of Tara had decreed that no one could light a fire before Logaire began the pagan spring festival by lighting a fire on Tara Hill. Logaire was so impressed by Patrick’s devotion that, despite his defiance (or perhaps because of it), he let him continue his missionary work. The rest is history.This arrangement is for a concert band with optional String parts if would like an orchestral arrangement! America’s history is littered with chaotic events, be it school shootings, the attack on the capital, pandemics, 9/11, wars, assassinations, and horrific events yet to come. Through it all, we can feel secure knowing America has, and will, survive. This composition depicts this spirit. It opens with an unusual 4/4 setting of the beginning of “Americaâ€. This is followed by original material that depicts our normal, happy freedom. Suddenly it changes to an aleatoric section representative of a horrific event. Following is a hint of “Amazing Grace†to remember the suffering. As always happens, life returns to normal. Closing is a 4/4 treatment of the final phrase of America, with a hint of the “Star Spangled Bannerâ€. This is an excellent teaching piece for younger bands, as well as a patriotic reminder of America’s strength sure to be an audience favorite.
