Published by Chicory Music (A0.734441). Vehicle is a song recorded by American rock band The Ides of March for their debut studio album of the same name (1970). It was released as the lead single from the album in March 1970 through Warner Bros. Records. Written by vocalist and frontman Jim Peterik, the song is about a girl that often used him for his mode of transportation, leading Peterik to surmise that he was little more than her vehicle. The arrangement includes a distinctive horn section riff, which caused some listeners to mistake the band for Blood, Sweat and Tears, who were also popular in that era.Vehicle was a commercial success, and was purported to be the fastest-selling single in the history of Warner Bros. at that time. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, while reaching the top 5 in Canada and top 30 in the United Kingdom. Despite this, the Ides of March never had another hit single, leaving them one-hit wonders. When Louis Armstrong sang and played ‘Azalea’ with Duke Ellington in 1963, it was a union of two of the greatest and best known proponents of Jazz. Although both champions of Jazz’s African roots, they forged quite contrasting career paths and styles. Nevertheless, Louis’ inimitable larger than life talent was sympathetically supported by the Duke’s often idiosyncratic chord voicings. Although this arrangement is a feature for Trumpet, the notated Rhythm Section could also form the basis for a vocal version. It is at a very achievable level for School and University bands as well as being edited for ease of sight reading on gigs. More recently, the song has found renewed popularity due to its use in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Avengers†movies. This arrangement takes its cue from the recording by Harry James and his orchestra, and reworks the performance as presented here for Vocal soloist, 3 horns, and Rhythm section. This chart observes the original key and form of the classic recording by Harry James with vocal soloist Helen Forrest. The horn parts closely follow in the footsteps of the original recording, making this a good vehicle to showcase a talented trumpeter. The remaining horns play the supporting role of the most important elements of the large orchestra arrangement which requires strong players on all parts. The Rhythm section/Lead sheet incorporates the chord changes and most important rhythmic elements to allow a flexible instrumentation of rhythm section to adequately feature the trumpeter and vocalist. This arrangement is a great way to showcase talented instrumentalists and vocals on this classic piece of music!

By Mike Strand, ASCAP This is a bossa nova lead sheet with chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a jazz or Latin ensemble, large or small, and a solo instrument (flute, saxophone, guitar, etc.). So it supports a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations. The audio sample is a jazz bossa nova accompaniment, combined with my tune from Finale PrintMusic - a quartet ensemble. In this particular sample, you'll hear a flute carry the tune.Levantado translates to lifted up, and connotes being cheered up or advanced in some way. This tune would serve well at a graduation party. Many bossa novas are in minor keys and convey sadness or melancholy. Levantado is not your typical bossa -- you’ll hear major chords and ascending melody motifs, good for a happy occasion. Libertango, by Astor Piazzolla, was my inspiration for this composition, and he is recognized in the subtitle. The basic structure of Levantado is similar to Piazzolla's piece, but the harmonic progressions and melody in Levantado differ from those in Libertango. The chord base notes in my piece often ascend in the progressions, where they descend in Piazzolla's piece. The melody motifs between the two pieces also differ -- gone are Libertango's repeated 7-note figures, and there are reversals or inversions in my piece relative to Piazzolla's other melodic material.

The audio sample is a medium swing accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with my tunes from Finale PrintMusic. You hear two melodies with the accompaniment -- a treble electric guitar, and a simulated baritone voice (without the words). A rock version of St. Matthew Blue is also for sale on this web site. St. Matthew Blue portrays an unhappy person coping with the COVID 19 pandemic, which started early in the year 2020. It’s not a blues tune, however, so the word blue is in the title without the s. St. Matthew Blue contains unusual harmonies inspired by J. S. Bach’s opening chorus to the St. Matthew Passion. This tune doesn't match the profundity and appeal of Bach's chorus, but the two 16-bar themes of St. Matthew Blue contain some of my favorite harmonic ideas from Bach’s work. This gives a depth to this piece that sets it apart from other swing tunes. Here are the lyrics to St. Matthew Blue:An evil little bug has got me down.I want to drink a mug of beer in town. But now I get supplies brought to my door From many tries to find an online store. Self-pity brings to mind St. Matthew’s tale, How Jesus saved our kind from fiery hell.
