Harp, Pedal Harp - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Traditional English. Arranged by Stephanie Bennett. Christian, Praise & Worship, Christmas, Recital. 8 pages. Published by Harpworld Music Co.
Item Number: S0.940053

On Christmas night all Christians sing to hear the news the angels bring.
On Christmas night all Christians sing to hear the news the angels bring.
News of great joy, news of great mirth,
News of our merciful King's birth!

This joyous Christmas song was first published by Luke Wadding, an Irish bishop, in a 17th century collection called Small Garland of Godly and Pious Songs. It became known as “Sussex Carol” in the early 20th century upon being collected by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, who heard it being sung by a folk singer in Sussex, England. He later included it in his choral settings, Eight Traditional English Carols and Fantasia on Christmas Carols.

This pedal harp arrangement is in the key of G flat (with a short section in D flat mixolydian for variety, from measures 56 to 65). There are no pedal changes.

The right hand has the melody most of the time, with the left hand accompanying; but the left hand gets to take center stage from measures 33 through 47; again from measures 86 through 89; and again at the end, from measures 100 through 106.

I’ve also made a lever harp arrangement of this song, which is similar except that it’s in the key of G. If you ever wanted to play this arrangement in G instead of G flat, you could do so just by setting the pedals to the key of G at the beginning (and ignoring the key signature).

Perfect for all Christmas events: from church services, to concerts, to parties.

For more harp arrangements by Stephanie Bennett, subscribe to HarpworldMusicCo on YouTube, and visit www.harpworld.com/sheetmusic.html.

I hope you enjoy sharing this cheerful song with your listeners, during many happy holidays! — Stephanie Bennett

Ten Christmas Carols for 8-note Bells and Boomwhackers® (with Black and White Notes)
Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Ukulele,…

Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Ukulele,Voice,Xylophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.565351 By Sharon Wilson. By Charles Wesley, George Frideric Handel, Isaac Watts, Johann A. P. Schulz, Rowland Hugh Prichard, Traditional, Traditional French Carol, Various, and tradition English carol. Arranged by Sharon Wilson Music. Children,Christmas,Folk,Sacred,Standards. Score and parts. 87 pages. Sharon Wilson #3927361. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565351). This collection contains 10 Christmas carols arranged for 2-part ensembles using only 8-note instruments. Each song in this collection is notated for handbells on one part and Boomwhackers® on a second part. For each song, there is a combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each individual part. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song. This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads.Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. Lyrics and chord names are provided as well to aid in the learning and teaching of these songs. Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers®, these arrangements are playable by any 8-note, C major diatonic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. Note assignment suggestions are included for each song.Other suggestions and uses: * have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers® * form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® (this would amplify the sound and allow more people to participate)* use as part of the music education for children at school, home, or church* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, church retreats, home school groups, just to name a few Each of the 10 Christmas Carol arrangements is also available separately with accompanying preview pages and audio samples. The Boar's Head CarolThis Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner. The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; NoelThis Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in C Major and modulates to D Major for the final chorus .Performance time is approx. 1 minute 45 seconds.

Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance,Sacred,Standards. 10 pages. Chicory Music #5370963. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734425). It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; NoelThis Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Bb Major and modulates to C Major for the final chorus Performance time approx. 1 minute 45 seconds.
