Salvador Rojo-Gamon #5801913. Published by Salvador Rojo-Gamon (A0.962406). Four ForcesReviewsScherzohttps://scherzo.es/badajoz-vanguardias-lugarenas/Periodico Extremadurahttps://www.elperiodicoextremadura.com/noticias/badajoz/fuerzas_1214372.html NotesThis work was commissioned by Extremadura Orchestra for Percussion and Chamber orchestra. It has two movements. The first one has been done for mallets and the second one was built on a base of a drums work (GEA).The duration of those movements is 26 minutes, being around 11 minutes the first and 15 minutes the second one.The chamber music is formed by:Woodwind quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn & Bassoon)Brasswind quintet (Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, Horn, Trombone & Tuba)Strings orchestraThree firsts violinsThree seconds violinsThree violasTwo cellosFor the second movement is high recommendable to enlarge the strings, a good number of musician could be doubling.I. Strong ForcesThe work is inspired by the four fundamental forces of nature. These forces explain any phenomena which can be produced in the universe.Throughout all composition, it is latent the mathematic construction based in the series Fibonacci. In the first of the movements, Fibonacci's series is present in the notes' sequence that forms the series of 16 sounds and it is going to be present throughout the whole work. This series is taking form along the movement and it is getting melody and harmony.Although it is far away from the sonata form, as we know it in its period of highest glory, it takes elements of it and updates to our days. In this movement, we can find sonata form elements as the exposition, development, transitions or coda. The central part of the first movement becomes in the slow movement, being more intimate and lyrical, free of the serials ties although it uses resources before cited -now called common practice-.The movement finish with a short re-exposition that concludes with the virtuosic of the soloist doubling the series and adding more tension until conforming the series in its full whole.II. Weak ForcesIt is the most tribal of both movements. Its structure is more complex and in it, we also can find clear reminiscences to the sonata form.We can divide the movement into two big blocks. The first one is formed for the introduction and sections one and two.IntroducciónIt is based in one ostinato of three notes where the accent is changing provoking unsymmetric, this ostinato represents the nucleus of our existence. The piccolo and the trombone introduce us to the human element representing the two elements that form the development of the whole movement. The two elements of thematics are taken from the series, the first one is easily recognizable because it appears in his primary form.First section & cadenzaIn this movement, the rhythm, the melody, and the harmony are based on the sequence of Fibonacci. As the theme ostinato of the soloist as the melody is formed under the rhythm of 1, 2, 3 and 5. This section leads us to the second section with a clear mode of cadence. In the cadenza, the elements of the rhythm are varied freely with an accompaniment of the Spring Drum.DevelopmentIt is formed by two Rondo sub-sections in which the solo part has been created through the mirror technique. Both sections have the next form:Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(minor)+A)Intro-A-B-A-B-(B(major)+A)First section & CodaThe movement ends with the repetition of the first section and the final code.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.890767 Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Sneakwood Editions. Baroque,Classical. Score and parts. 41 pages. Sneakwood Editions #4781035. Published by Sneakwood Editions (A0.890767). Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord. The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. Piano Quintet,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499301 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 99 pages. James A. Yeager #1075356. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499301). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms—sonata form (I), ternary song form (II), and sonata rondo (III). The three movements of this piano quintet share a common element contained in the seed of a motivic idea—the interplay between the minor and the major 3rd : a tonal ambiguity or conflict of the minor 2nd. Stylistically, this Sonata pays modest homage to neo-classicism of 20th Century composers such as Poulenc (I), Prokofiev, Shostakovich (III), and perhaps even a touch of Gershwin (II). I hope this piano quintet will offer players and their audience chamber music that is a bit unusual yet worthwhile. The Sonata embraces the lightheartedness, the melancholy , and the whimsy of nostalgia. There is no separate piano part.Performance Notes:I Moderately fast, expresses dialogues of themes that move between piano and strings. The playfulness of the exposition (repeat is not optional) can give way to a more passionate building of the development to the climax at letter H. In the recapitulation the longer bridge remains steadily in tempo (no accelerando) relaxing just before letter N and theme two. The coda after letter O is a somber premonition of movement two.II Slowly, the bowings are ad libitum. The viola is chantlike and smooth. Violins glissando like the portamento of the Chinese stringed instruments, the Guqin or the Ehru type glissando leading to a very pure quiet long tones without any vibrato and the resulting fourth should be a pure tuning. The piano can use una corda ad libitum in softer passages, and the pedal (damper) ad libitum. In the B section (Letter D) pianist should treat the 64th notes like an ornament (upper mordent). Strings play the eighths after Letter G accents with strong bow changes. At the end, the piano lingers until the sound vanishes after the strings die away.III Introduction: Quick and spirited, the transition (Introduction) is measured and strict without alteration leading to letter A. The rondo theme, ‘A’ section, can slightly intensify in each successive repetition, but not slavishly. The small waltz or ‘B’ section, Letter C, the quartet might play to resemble a reed organ or harmonium—sweet, sonorous, and harmonious. The ‘C’ section, Letter G, big swell on short bridge passage, then pizz. strings become very rustic and like a peasant dance. Pianist can use una corda ad libitum in soft passages. Violins again after Letter I play similarly to non-vibrato of 2nd movement. The ‘B’ section at Letter L is now the grand waltz slightly faster and more indulgent with tiny rubatos tastefully allowed.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. As an organ major at The Ohio State University, he studied with Dr. Wilbur Held (B.Mus. 1969). Professor Joseph Goodman mentored him in composition at Union Theological Seminary in New York city (M. Sac. Mus, 1971). At the University of Colorado-Boulder, he returned to the organ, nevertheless, keeping composition as a mainstay (D.M.A. 1985). He was appointed Director of Sacred Music at the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, Ohio) and rose to the rank of Professor (1984-2009). He retired as professor emeritus in 2009 and moved to New Mexico. While residing in Mountainair, New Mexico, he was organist/choral director for 12 years at a major Albuquerque church retiring again in 2021. His most recent compositions include Passacaglia & Fugue for Organ and Chamber Orchestra (2022), a Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (2022), a Sonatina for Flute and Piano (2023), and the Sonata for Piano Quintet (2024) as well as several smaller works for voice and piano.

A piano solo begins the conversation, followed by a response by the violin and two of them enter into the conversation. The piano and violin each performs different themes and rhythms with individual personality. First they take turns to express themselves, and then their monologues interact with each other. Although there might be disagreement and argument between them, this do not last long. The changes in speed imply the transitions of their emotions. An open conversation is free of forms. I honestly believe that sitting close together and having an open conversation is extremely precious and delightful, and is a common experience shared by everyone. The whole piece is immersed in a harmonious atmosphere of peaceful conversation. The violin and piano gently wave their goodbyes at the end.

Piano,Viola - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548507 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3387407. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548507). The First Noel arranged for Viola & Piano with new harmony for the final verse.Origins The First Noel is an English Christmas carol. Even more, it was probably written in the late Cornish Renaissance period. While other versions spell the title as Nowell, this is just a colloquial variation. Furthermore, Noel is an older word meaning Christmas. Therefore the First Noel translates as the First Christmas. First of all, Gilbert and Sandy published the earliest version. As a result, this version appears in the Carols Ancient and Modern songbook of 1823. William Sandy edited and arranged the book. Similarly, his partner Davies Gilbert edited and added the familiar extra verses. The First Noel: Viola Version comes with new harmony in final verse for more energy and drive. Stainer Organist and composer Sir John Stainer published the most noteworthy customary arrangement in the 1870’s. Stainer is above all famous for his songbook entitled: Christmas Carols New and Old (1871). This volume served as an important catalyst for reviving the English Christmas carol. Other famous Stainer arrangements from this book are such titles as What Child Is This, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Good King Wenceslas, and I Saw Three Ships. Diatonic Function The melodic structure in the First Noel is uncommon among English folk tunes. It simply repeats one phrase twice then follows a variation refrain. All three phrases of the song end on the mediant scale degree. This is unusual because the diatonic function of the mediant is non-final compared to the more usual tonic or even dominant degrees. Consequently, this gives the song as kind of open-ended feeling – like maybe it never really ends. Political Context The Catholic clergy sang carols outside of the church in Latin. After the Protestant Reformation, the reformers thought it would be better for everyone to sing carols. They decided to bring music back to the common folk. So, they translated the lyrics from Latin into common language. Moreover, the Protestants wanted more control over the music in church than what the Vatican allowed. Protestant composers such as William Byrd composed complex polyphonic Christmas music that they called carols. Nonetheless, some famous folk carols were composed in this era. Eminent composers in the nineteenth century began to revise and adapt them. Consequently, they revived the English carol. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 33 minutes Year of composition: 1995 Program Note: I. With Friends Like These II. Inner Voices III. Little Hands and Little Feet IV. Freund Barry V. Friendly Persuasion VI. All For One and One For All I've known the Alexander String Quartet since 1987. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. Among Friends was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in the Library of Congress and the Alexander String Quartet. Among Friends i.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811252 Composed by Antonio J. Garcia. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 119 pages. Gordon Cherry #6549777. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811252). Two Dreams for Trombone and Percussion EnsembleDr. Justin Alexander (Director, VCU Percussion Ensemble) invited me to create a piece for trombone and percussion ensemble that had roles for more- and less-experienced players so that they could mix within the performance. I so enjoyed composing and performing this work. He estimates the overall difficulty grade of Movement I to be a three on a five-point scale and Movement II to be a four, with a grade four for the overall piece; but some players’ parts (within the eight total in the percussion ensemble) are indeed easier. The two Movements are approximately five minutes each. The first Movement Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream) calls for (1) shekeré/guiro; (2) 5-octave marimba (shared with...); (3) 5-octave marimba (shared with previous); (4) claves/drum set with mounted cowbell; (5) bell/mounted cowbell/congas; (6) hi-hat/suspended cymbal; (7) bass drum; and (8) four toms/maracas.The Second Movement (Running with the Tigers) calls for (1) xylophone; (2) vibraphone/glockenspiel; (3) 5-octave marimba; (4) drum set; (5) shaker/samba whistle/congas (opt. voice); (6) triangle/bell tree/hanging bells/agogo bells (opt. voice); (7) bass drum (opt. voice); and (8) Timpani (opt. voice). Pending difficulty levels, the conga and drum set parts can optionally be split among additional percussionists. The score notes offer a stage plot and many rehearsal tips.Bilita Mpash (An Amazing Dream)The 3-2 Rumba Clave anchors this movement, launched by the shekeré. Rhythmic vamps of multiple bars form the landscape over which the trombone’s melody emerges, followed by a move to double-time 2-3 Rumba Clave (with montuno) and back. The trombone soloist improvises without chordal accompaniment for a while so could reflect on the preceding harmonies or instead freely improvise with no concern as to chord changes, while a later section requires improv over chord changes. After the recap, a surprise tag of the ending phrase in Cha Cha sets up the rubato finish. Bilita Mpash (BILL-it-uh m-POSH) is a Bantu term for an amazing dream, a dream so good that it is the polar opposite of a nightmare-a dream in a blissful state where all is forgiven and forgotten2. Running with the TigersThe opening, written-out marimba solo is somewhat of a nod to vibist Gary Burton’s influence in bringing mallets towards the expression of modern jazz. A 9/8 samba-groove (5+4) transforms to 4/4. None of the percussionists have to have a jazz background, though the drum set player would be more challenged if not already exposed to Latin drumming. The improvised solo section could be all solo trombone or could be divided among various performers, including trading. The recap of the tune begins over 5/8 samba (3+2, later 2+3). The closing arrhythmic drum-set solo crescendos as the optional surprise of percussionists’ (or additional) voices sing at the end. The title of this movement refers to a recurring dream my dad would have, as well as to the active movements of my grandson when sleeping in his earliest years.-Antonio J. GarcÃaInstrumentation is for:Solo Trombone and 8-part Percussion Ensemble:shekeré/guiro, 2 5-octave marimbas, claves/drumset with cowbell, bell, congas, hi-hat, suspended cymbal, bass drum, toms, maracas, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, shaker, samba whistle, congas, triangle, bell tree, hanging bells, agogo bells, bass drum and timpani. This rhythmic and dramatic work includes improvisation by the Trombonist. Listen to the brilliant live performance featuring Mr. Garcia and the Virginia Commonwealth University Percussion Ensemble directed by Dr. Justin Alexander.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1504747 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Thomas Ling. Baroque,Classical,Instructional. Score. 11 pages. Thomas Swee Chin #1080174. Published by Thomas Swee Chin (A0.1504747). Capriccio on the Departure of a Beloved Brother, BWV 992 is an early keyboard work by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed in 1704 when Bach was still a teenager. It is considered one of his few programmatic compositions, telling a specific story through music. The piece was likely written to bid farewell to Bach’s brother, Johann Jacob, who was leaving to serve as an oboist in the military.Structure and Programmatic Elements:The Capriccio is divided into six short movements, each with a descriptive title, narrating the emotional journey of the departure:Arioso: Adagio – A friend tries to dissuade him from leavingA gentle, expressive movement representing a friend’s attempt to persuade Johann Jacob to stay.Andante – They picture the dangers that may befall himThis section evokes the imagined dangers and perils of travel, characterized by ominous, foreboding musical gestures.Adagissimo – A lament of the friendsA sorrowful, slow lament, capturing the grief and sadness of those bidding farewell to the brother.Aria di Postiglione – The postillion’s horn is heardThis movement imitates the sound of a post horn, as if signaling the brother’s imminent departure by coach, a common mode of travel in that period.Fuga all’imitazione della cornetta di postiglioneA lively fugue that continues the imitation of the post horn, showcasing Bach’s contrapuntal skills even at this young age.Aria – The friends’ farewellThe final movement brings the capriccio to a touching close as the friends say their last goodbye.Style and Significance:Musical Innovation: While Bach is typically known for abstract works, this early piece is unique for its use of vivid musical storytelling. Each movement serves a narrative function, making it one of the earliest examples of program music, where the music is designed to evoke specific images or emotions outside of purely musical ideas.Youthful Playfulness: The Capriccio reveals the young Bach’s ability to blend humor, drama, and emotion. It also shows his developing mastery of counterpoint, which would later define his mature works.Historical Context: Bach composed this piece at the beginning of his career, before his major positions in Weimar, Köthen, or Leipzig, making it an important insight into his early stylistic development. This capriccio is an expressive and inventive work that balances emotional depth with technical brilliance. It stands out as a unique, personal piece within Bach’s extensive oeuvre, reflecting both a sense of farewell and a joyful exploration of musical ideas.

Timothy Allen Music Ltd #175439. Published by Timothy Allen Music Ltd (A0.566037). Although this song is less well-known, it is an absolute powerhouse anthem for choirs. Originally written for the Commonwealth Games, the message of unity and support is hugely relevant to choirs, and the strong melodies will rapidly become lodged in singers' brains. There is an epic quality to the song, and this is brought out in this arrangement, as it builds to a momentous key-change. After the fireworks and bombast, everything boils down to a simple statement of the key phrase from the song - Together we are one. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792139). The Brahms Ten Studies were originally written for Horn or Trumpet and were first published soon after his death in 1897. Unfortunately there is not much written about the origins of the Studies. There are questions as to whether they are original or manufactured by an enterprising musician. In my opinion, a few of the studies, especially the slower ones have the stamp of the Master on them. Mr. Cherry believes that the Studies are authentic. It is fairly certain that Brahms’s father did play some horn and there is a good chance that Johannes performed in a horn club as well. The Studies were all originally written in the key of C treble clef. Mr. Cherry has taken the liberty to transpose many of them into different keys for musical variety and technique. This is a common practice for many Trumpet and Horn study books. He has also added some breath marks and alternate slide positions. Many thanks to friend & colleague, Ralph Sauer, who helped with the editing of these studies. These studies are all in bass clef and appropriate for performers of intermediate level and higher.

Lullaby is the common theme running through three pieces for cello and piano, written for students of beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced levels: Lullaby in D Key, Fantasia Lullaby, and When the Rainbow Says Goodnight. It takes students to consider color as a technical and formal expression that varieties of tone colors, as well as tonal centers, are explored. Originally modal, the tune by the aboriginal people takes the rocking baby as the inspiration and is embellished with a wide range of ornaments, string changes, and tonal centers, which are all relevant to Chinese traditional music and contemporary music. CMTNC (Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California) Commission Series is a collection of musical works for a set of twelve pieces for violin, piano, cello, and clarinet (three pieces for each instrument written for beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced students; with or without piano accompaniment). Through this series, student performers and their audiences are reminded of life experiences through the reminiscence and creative process of classic Chinese music literature and well-known folksongs.
