Five Dances from Terpsichore for Easy Piano

Composed by Michael Praetorius et al. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Instructional, Renaissance. Score. 11 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #690673. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
Here’s a great way to explore some of the most popular European dance music of the early seventeenth century. This book contains easy piano arrangements of several dances from dance collection entitled Terpsichore published by Michael Praetorius in 1612. At the time he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany and the publication consisted of over three hundred dances in four, five and six parts. The name is pronounced “terp-SI-cory” and rhymes with the word “hickory”. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble Praetorius was well aware that in practice, they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. The five dances in this set actually include eight different numbers. These arrangements are based on the original 1612 publication, which did not include dynamics, phrasing or articulations. Any shown in these arrangements are the suggestion of the arranger. The keyboard parts have been fully fingered though fingering is omitted from repeated sections to encourage the player to memorize them. If the music is being played on a digital piano, the harpsichord sound (if available) might sound more authentic. The music is printed in fairly large easy-to-read notation and this collection would be ideal for the elementary keyboard player. The audio sample contains (1) Volta (2) Two Courantes and (3) La Bourée.

Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers #882038. Published by Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers (A0.1291388). The meditative Advent hymn On Jordan's Bank the Baptist's Cry (PUER NOBIS) is offered here in settings in both C and D major for easy piano or organ. With these arrangements, pianists can easily transition to the organ. Organists will enjoy exploring the colors of the organ by playing the melody on solo stops. All arrangements may be used to lead congregational singing. They may also be played individually for services or recitals or in their entirety as a partita. Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522158 Composed by Pierre-Francisque Caroubel (1556-1611). Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Renaissance,Standards. Score and parts. 25 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3907943. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522158). By the time Michael Praetorius published his extensive dance collection entitled Terpsichore (terp-SIH-cory) in 1612, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. These Three Gavottes are well-known and lively dances and sure to add some sparkle to any concert event. This piece is arranged for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments and percussion, with optional keyboard part.In this series, Renaissance Hits for Wind Instruments, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too. The flexible arrangement makes them playable by all sorts of non-standard ensembles. The keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. There are separate parts in various transpositions. The optional keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and usually include a small bass drum or hand-held drum, clave or small headless tambourine. Two players are usually required and the parts can be interpreted quite freely. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

They have been arranged for strings, keyboard, optional guitar, recorder or any C-pitched instruments and simple percussion. In this series, Renaissance Hits for Strings, some of the most well-known dances from Terpsichore are included. They are all attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts or end-of-semester events. They are fairly easy to play too and the flexible instrumentation allows any players to take a solo with the melody part. They can be played by string quartet, string orchestra or ideally string ensemble plus any other C-pitch instruments that happen to be available. This publication consists of a score showing the four-part ensemble, keyboard and percussion parts. There are separate parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola (violin 3), cello/bass, percussion and keyboard. Additional instruments are not essential but they add contrasting tone colour. The keyboard part is intended as a guide and when possible the keyboard player should improvise around the part and chords shown. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option.Every instrumental part (except percussion) also shows the melody line. This allows anyone to take a solo and play the melody, while the other players remain tacet. Solos can be decided in advance and the parts marked accordingly. Just cross out what you don’t need! Â

The volta is an anglicised name for a dance that was popular during the Renaissance. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112817 Composed by Michael Praetorius. Arranged by Aaron Lee. A Cappella,Baroque,Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Octavo. 2 pages. J. Aaron Lee #714775. Published by J. Aaron Lee (A0.1112817). This SATB chorale setting of the classic Christmas carol Es Ist Ein Rose Entpsrungen (English: Lo, how a rose e'er blooming) is done in the style of baroque composers such as J. S. Bach and is a very traditional setting of Praetorius' melody from 1609. This arrangement is fairly easy and should be appropriate for a wide range of skill levels, including school settings. This score includes three verses in German, and is also included in the collection Nine Christmas Chorales also by Aaron Lee. For more music from Aaron Lee, you can visit www.MusicOfLee.com.

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.817937 Composed by Michael Praetorius (1571-1621). Arranged by Adrian Dee. Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Renaissance,Wedding. 10 pages. Adrian Dee #3511601. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.817937). This piece was originally written for vocal ensemble (Cantus I, Cantus II, Altus, Tenor I, Tenor II, Basso) and is typical of Praetorius’ flowing counterpoint and mellifluous harmonies. It would be a lovely addition to a wedding or similar ceremony, or for a quiet meditative moment in a religious service or concert program. The notes are easy, making this piece an excellent opportunity to focus on ensemble skills, such as balance and intonation. The work is only about a minute and a half in length. You might want to experiment with repeating the entire work, possibly with the top four voices (Flutes 1 & 2, alto, bass 1) up an octave. The tempo marking is only a guideline; do what feels right for your ensemble. The contrabass part may be covered by a third regular bass flute.Let me know what you think! adriandeeflute@gmail.com

Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1045347 Composed by Alessandro Macrì. Arranged by Alessandro Macrì. Baroque,Christmas,Classical,Renaissance,Traditional. Score and parts. 144 pages. Music Macri Editions #649924. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.1045347). The Book for Horns STEP by STEP - Level 2, written by Alessandro Macrì, is based on some of the principles that identify a musical ensemble: enjoying playing with other people, learning from them, becoming familiar with your instrument and having respect for those who play beside you. The ultimate aim is to cultivate the attitude of a musician by offering young people a new experience, that is to say being part of a small ensemble. This book presents a selection of didactic melodies, traditional and classical pieces by the most famous composers in the world: Händel, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Telemann, Purcell, Schubert, Praetorius, Offenbach, Corrette, Mouret, Grieg, Arban, Schumann and Rimskij-Korsakov.
