Two Violins, Piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.PDP300 Composed by Rebecca Clarke. Score and Parts. 52 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #PDP300. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.PDP300). 9 x 12 inches.Clarke worked on the Pieces for Two Violins and Piano during 1909, her last year at the Royal College, when Danse Bizarre gained her a scholarship. Clarke mentioned Danse Bizarre in her typescript memoir composed in the 1970s, and also discussed it with me in 1977 while helping me catalogue her compositions, but she said then that it was long lost, and made no mention of any related material. In the year 2000, however, Clarke's great-nephew Daniel Braden found.a box that Clarke had put in the back of a closet decades before and evidently forgotten, which turned out to contain a chaotic assortment of letters, papers, medical records, and music-manuscript sheets. When put in order, the latter yielded the missing inner leaf of an important viola piece and a number of previously unknown or presumed-lost arrangements and compositions, including ''Danse Bizarre and a Prelude, a Nocturne, and the beginning of a Finale for the same instruments, on the same paper, and bearing similar markings in Clarke's hand and in at least one other hand, which may well be Stanford's. The four movements were plainly developed as a suite, although there is nothing to suggest a sequence for the inner movements, and no compelling reason to believe that the Finale ever got beyond the extant eight pages. The manuscript of the Finale is noticeably rougher than those of the other movements, and several pencil-markings, apparently in another hand, suggest that some of its motivic material had not yet jelled. It seems entirely possible that Clarke had only begun this movement when a family crisis forced her to leave the College, and that she never returned to it. In any case, there is not enough of the Finale to make performance feasible, but the other movements stand quite magnificently on their own. They were recorded by Lorraine McAslan, David Juritz, and Ian Jones on Dutton CDLX 7132, released in 2003. The first public performance, by students at the Royal College under Jones's supervision, took place in May 2005 in the College's Concert Hall, where Clarke had last performed nearly a century before.

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869296). Program note. Program note:Eight Tarot Cards for Madam Rubio! was originally a 22-movement work for two pianos entitled, The Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards. I sent a copy of the two-piano version to Nancy Zeltsman who, with Janis Potter, recently created the marimba duo, Madam Rubio. They thought some of the pieces could translate very well as pieces for marimba duo. I have to give complete credit to Nancy's ingenuity and creativity for this version. The transcription, arrangement and order of Eight Tarot Cards for Madam Rubio! are completely hers. [The numbering of the movements may look bizarre, but it is the original Tarot numbering.] I. Il Saltimbanco ... The Mountebank shuffles his cards and does a samba. XVI. La Torre ... The Tower topples and crashes onto the populace gathered below. II. La Papessa ... The High Priestess concocts a magic potion. XXI. Il Mondo ... The World would be a happier place if we all dance together. XIII. La Morte ... Death lurks around the corner. X. La Ruota della Fortuna ... Fortunes rise and fall unpredictably. III. L'Imperatrice ... The Empress dances all night. XIX. Il Sole ... Sunshine, margaritas and salsa cubana. And if an encore is requested ... XVII. La Stella ... Twinkle, twinkle, little star ... [Marimba I requires a 4.5 octave (low E) instrument and Marimba II requires a 5-octave (low C) instrument.]

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1407778 Composed by Igor Stravinsky. Arranged by Robert Stevens. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical. 36 pages. SAXpress.com #990402. Published by SAXpress.com (A0.1407778). Suite for Saxophones Igor Stravinsky (1882 – 1971) Saxophone Quintet SAATB Suite for Saxophones based on piano music of Igor Stravinsky, arranged for saxophone quintet SAATB. Between 1915 and 1917, as an amusement for his two children, Stravinsky wrote a series of eight easy piano duets based on a variety of dance forms. Later, he orchestrated the pieces for small orchestra and arranged them into suites of four movements each. The results are outrageous, witty, and utterly charming. As always, Stravinsky outdoes himself in the inventiveness of his orchestrations, which are filled with unusual instrumental juxtapositions and surprising changes in rhythm and texture. Some of those surprising changes and textures are evident in the arrangement for saxophone quintet. The Suite for Saxophones includes the following movements:March, from Three Easy Pieces, 1915Andante, from Five Easy Pieces, 1917Balalaika, from Five Easy Pieces, 1917Galop, from Five Easy Pieces, 1917.

Euphonium,Piano Accompaniment - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1247705 Composed by Max Bruch. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Romantic Period. 110 pages. Gordon Cherry #842258. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1247705). Max Bruch composed Eight Pieces, Opus 83 for Clarinet, Viola and Piano in 1908. They are highly romantic pieces written expressly for his son Max Felix, a talented clarinetist. In order to enable the work to be played more widely, Bruch arranged the clarinet part for violin and the viola part for cello. This edition has been brilliantly arranged by Ralph Sauer for two euphoniums and piano and is appropriate for advanced performers. The solo parts are all in bass clef. This major chamber work is 38 minutes in length and is a great addition to the Euphonium repertoire.

Six Pieces from First Term at the Piano by Béla Bartók arranged by Paul Burnell for instruments in four parts.Duration 4:45I Allegro Deciso (No. 17)II Andante (No. 14)III Waltz (No. 18, Keringo)IV Folk Song: Moderato (No. 7, Népdal)V Where Have You Been, My Lamb? - Folksong (No. 13, Hol jártál, báránykám? - Népdal)VI Folksong: Allegro (No. 10, Népdal)The arrangement is suitable for multiple quartet combinations with parts available (and potential instrumentations suggested) as follows: Part 1: C, Eb (flute, oboe, alto recorder, Eb clarinet, violin 1)Part 2: C, Bb (oboe, tenor recorder, Bb clarinet, violin 2)Part 3: C - alto & bass clefs, Bb, Eb, F (Bb clarinet, bass recorder, alto saxophone, horn in F, viola)Part 4: C - bass clef, Bb, F (bassoon, great bass recorder, tenor saxophone, horn in F, 'cello)Part 4 may be played an octave lower than written.Any other appropriate instruments, even if not suggested above, may play.Although the score is presented with a layout appropriate for string quartet this does not indicate a preferred instrumentation.Performers may wish to consider playing each movement through more than once and, in an ensemble with more than four players, varying the instrumentation for each iteration. The arrangements maintain the keys of the original piano pieces, but many sections have been transposed at the octave. The original metronome indication in Folksong: Allegro has been maintained, but performers may prefer a faster speed.Programme note:‘First Term at the Piano’ (‘Kezdök zongoramuzsikája’ – piano music for beginners) is a collection of pieces for first-year piano students. The collection was collaboration with Sándor Reschofsky with Béla Bartók writing eighteen of the short pieces. The volume was published in 1913 and was intended as the first of a five-volume piano instructional series. This arrangement features six of Bartók’s contributions: Allegro Deciso, Andante, Waltz, and three Folksongs.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548712 Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and individual part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411731. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548712). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther arranged for bass flute & piano. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Features the entire range of the instrument. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 3 pg. Solo part: 1 pg. The piano reads from the score. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Double Bass,Guitar,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522196 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Concert,Holiday,Jazz,Latin,Patriotic,Wedding. Score and parts. 35 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3397237. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522196). Three numbers in popular style for two alto saxes and piano (or alto and tenor) with optional part for guitar and/or bass. These pieces are in jazz and Latin styles and are intended for intermediate students. They’re ideal for an end-of-term concert or recital but would be useful for any festive occasion or celebration. The 13-page piano score also includes the saxophone parts. The highest note in the 1st sax part is (written) C6 and that in the 2nd sax part is A6. Both parts avoid low D and C. Five-page parts for the two E flat alto saxophones are provided as well as an optional part for tenor sax, which is exactly the same part as the 2nd saxophone. In the piano parts the improvisation chords are shown only in the 1st alto part purely for the sake of visual tidiness, but they appear in all the saxophone parts so that any participant can offer an improvised solo. The guitar and bass parts are combined and the bass part is similar to the left hand of the piano part. All five parts are presented in a single PDF file. An MP3 file of all the piano accompaniments is also available as a separate item. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679812 1. Hit the Town This is an entertaining swinger in the concert key of E flat and 4/4 time. It uses “jazz†eighth notes (quavers) and would be good introduction to playing in a jazz style. The improvisation section can be repeated as often as required. 2. Cool company A slow number in F major in a Latin-American style, this gives the opportunity to practise a soft singing tone-quality. There is one short section for improvising. 3. Freeway Written in 3/4 time in B flat, this jazzy waltz also uses “jazz†eighth notes (quavers) and the improvisation section can be repeated as often as required.

5 saxophones (SAATBar) - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q40427 Third movement of the Suite espanola No. 1. Composed by Isaac Albeniz. Arranged by Albert Loritz. This edition: score and parts. Quintett - Saxophon - Bearbeitung. Downloadable, score and parts. Op. 47. Advance Music GmbH - Digital #Q40427. Published by Advance Music GmbH - Digital (S9.Q40427). The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Manuel Francisco Albéniz’ (y Pascual) fascinating and eventful biography is informatively described in the relevant specialist literature; with a few clicks, though, you might also do some successful research on the internet. Albéniz is considered to be the father of Spanish national music per se. Incorporating rhythms and melodies typical of Spanish folk music, he succeeded in embedding folcloristic elements in virtuoso compositions for the piano. Sevilla is the third movement of the Suite Española No. 1 for Piano, Op. 47. The final version of the suite contains eight characteristic pieces. The title of each one of them refers to a geographical region or city in Spain – including Cuba! The folcloristic and improvisational character of Sevilla results from memorable motifs with characteristic embellishments in the melody, - the imitation of other instruments (guitar, castanets, …) in the setting for piano, asymmetrical phrases, the unexpected appearance of new motifs, noticeable fluctuations in tempo and dynamics, unanticipated modulations, the “faulty†compositional structure (e.g. octave parallels between melody and bass in measure 11), and especially from the rhapsody-like middle part with its virtuoso and at the same time cantabile melody in the upper part. The arrangement presented here is notated one whole tone lower than the original version and has been written according to the proven principle of translating: “as true to the original as possible – as free as necessaryâ€. The movement can be performed as a quintet but also in a choral/orchestral instrumentation. In the latter case, the middle part with the soprano saxophone solo (measures 76 – 79 and measures 104 – 110) is recommended to be executed by five soloists.

Composed by Paul Hindemith. This edition: score. Downloadable, Score. Duration 30 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q22789. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q22789). German.CONTENT How does a town intended for children evolve, who lives in it, what forms of transport can be used to get around and how it is also possible that unpleasant moments occur in an urban community? These are all questions which Wir bauen eine Stadt answers in a playful and child-oriented mode. COMMENTARY Since 1926, Hindemith had been pursuing the objective of attracting children and amateur musicians to contemporary music through the composition of especially suitable musical works. In 1927, his musical-educational ambitions led among other projects to the involvement of the youth music movement in his plans for the Baden- Baden chamber music festival in which he was deeply involved in his capacity as member of the programme committee. Neue Musik Berlin 1930, a supplementary event following the Baden-Baden music festival, was to be devoted not only to radio plays, amateur choirs and electric music, but also to the field of ‘plays and songs for children’. The play for children Wir bauen eine Stadt was created in collaboration with the Berlin author Robert Seitz who provided the text and was premièred on 21 June 1930 by children aged between eight and twelve years old providing the final work in the concert Neue Musik Berlin 1930. The work swiftly achieved widespread dissemination and was available in a number of different languages within two years of its completion. Hindemith explained his pedagogical concept behind Wir bauen eine Stadt in a preface to the score as follows: ‘A play for children: this means that this work was more intended as a lesson and exercise for children themselves rather than for the entertainment of adult audiences. The form of the work can be altered according to the appropriate needs of the group of children involved: songs can be omitted and other musical pieces, dances or scenes inserted. An infinite number of children can participate in this work; apart from the minimum of three players for the “orchestraâ€, no specific instrumentation is specified. If numerous musicians are available (perhaps also those with instruments which are played in other registers than the pitches indicated in this work), these can be employed doubling at the octave of the two outer parts to achieve a more interesting texture. The music can additionally be livened up by tambourines, drums and other easily playable percussion. […]’ Alongside three instrumental movements, Hindemith’s play for children primarily consists of choral songs in verse form for one- and two-voice choir with a few simple individual solo parts. This classic children’s theatre composition has up to the present day retained its prominent place within the (school) theatre repertoire. Six pieces from this work were issued in a piano version for children in 1931 under the title: Wir bauen eine Stadt. Klavierstücke für Kinder. (S. Sch.-G.) EDITOR’S NOTE A documentation of national premieres is not possible with Wir bauen eine Stadt. The performance material is on sale at music dealers and performance right is included by purchasing the material, without further involvement of the publisher.
