Beethoven: Adagio from Sonata Pathetique for Baritone Horn & Piano
Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552860 Compos…

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552860 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3516929. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552860). Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes.Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano.

Twenty-three sacred hymns and songs From the Foreword: R…

Twenty-three sacred hymns and songs From the Foreword: Recent years have seen much increase in the activities of small and medium sized instrumental ensembles in schools at all grade levels, generally as an adjunct of band and orchestral programs. Many churches and Sunday Schools also use ensembles of various types in programs and services. Such groups are looking for playable music that is also interesting and worthwhile. This collection contains settings of sacred hymns and songs, and other selections, all of which should be usable in the church and the school. The hymn and song treatments are not just instrumentations of standard hymnal type, but are complete arrangements, using such devices as introductions, bridges, reharmonizations in present day idioms, rhythmic variety, countermelodies, etc. All selections have been scored for a six (or five) part brass ensemble with the following part books available: (preferred instruments are listed before the parenthetical substitution possibilities) Part 1: C Instruments (Violin, Oboe, Flute); 1st Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 2: 2nd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet) Part 3: 3rd Bb Trumpet or Cornet (Bb Clarinet); F Horn (English Horn); Eb Horn (Alto Saxophone, Eb Alto Clarinet) Part 4: Baritone treble clef (Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet); Trombone (Baritone bass clef, Bassoon, Cello) Part 5: Baritone bass clef (Trombone, Bassoon, Cello) Part 6: Tuba or Sousaphone (Bassoon or Cello with occasional lower range limits, String Bass 8vb) While hoping to keep the selections interesting and worthwhile for experienced players, they have generally been restricted to a medium level of difficulty (or Grade III as defined by the Instrumentalist Magazine). Extremes of range and key signature have been avoided, lead parts have ample time to rest and catch their breath and technical demands are usually modest. Selections which could have been expanded to larger proportions (such as A Mighty Fortress) have been held to a modest length, in order to give younger musicians a better chance to play them successfully. Footnotes in the conductor's score indicate how the longer medleys can be abbreviated, if that is desirable. WESLEY HANSON

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bass Clarinet,Bassoon,English Horn,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1168625 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Classical. 19 pages. RayThompsonMusic #768963. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1168625). Arranged woodind trio (playable as double reed trio, clarinet trio or mixed trio) Part 1 oboe (flute) / clarinet Part 2 clarinet / cor anglais Part 3 bassoon / bass clarinet The Six Viennese Sonatinas were not originally composed by Mozart for the piano. They are a contemporary arrangement of movements from the Five Wind Divertimentos for 3 basset horns, K. 439b which Mozart wrote in 1783.The Divertimentos are notable for their conciseness of form and their melodic richness. Each divertimento has 5 mvts. They therefore make an excellent introduction to Mozart's piano music, even though they are not completely typical of Mozart's piano writing. We do not know for certain who made the arrangement, but Alexander Weinmann has shown that it was probably Ferdinand Kauer. The order of movements is not the same as in the original; moreover, some of the Trios have been exchanged and recapitulations have been shortened in some instances.Thry are in varying keys, unlike the original divertimenti, so my arrangements reflect thus. This is my arrangement for  mixed wind trio of Sonatina No.4 in Bb major. There are 3 movements: Andante grazioso Menuetto and Trio Rondo

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bassoon,English Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258422 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 84 pages. Jmsgu3 #851675. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1258422). INSTRUMENTATION: 2 ENGLISH HORNS and 2 BASSOONS1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons:1. It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived.2. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor.3. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time.4. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen.Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.

Therefore, Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for its uniqueness. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. Although the Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, they are stylistically related. The mass is unified, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was a vital part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval and religious music.

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1156205 Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 43 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #756519. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1156205). This is the seventeenth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.Folk Songs For Classical Guitar - Volume 17 (Songs 433-459)I Love My LoveI must live all aloneI saw a maidenI will Give my Love an AppleI will give you the keys of Heaven (Cheshire)I wish I was Single AgainI wish I wish 1 (My True Love Once He courted Me 1)I wish I wish 2 (My True Love Once He courted Me 2)I wish I wish 3 (My True Love Once He courted Me 3)I wish I wish 4 (My True Love Once He courted Me 4)I Wonder as I WanderI’ll Build Myself A Gallant ShipI’ll Mount the Air on Swallow’s Wings [The Loyal Lover]I’ll Tell You of a FellowI’m a Man that’s done wrong to my ParentsI’m A’ Doon For Lack of JohnnieI’se the B’y That Builds the BoatI’ve Set My Face For Zion’s KingdomIn a British Man O’ WarIn Bethlehem CityIn Good King Arthur’s Time (King Arthur’s Servants)In My Father’s GardenIn Nightly StillnessIron Horse (THE)Isle of DreamsIt’s of a farmer all in the town.

Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Double Bass,Guitar,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522199 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Concert,Holiday,Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 37 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3407717. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522199). These pieces are in jazz and Latin styles and are intended for intermediate students. This is a companion set to Let’s Go! but the music is technically more challenging. The pieces are intended for an end-of-term concert or recital but would be useful for any light hearted occasion. The 15-page piano score also includes the saxophone parts. The highest note in the 1st sax part is (written) D6 and that in the 2nd sax part is C6. Five-page parts for the two E flat alto saxophones are provided as well as an optional part for tenor sax, which is exactly the same part as the 2nd saxophone. In the piano parts the improvisation chords are shown only in the 1st alto part purely for the sake of visual tidiness, but they appear in all the saxophone parts. If the participants do not feel confident enough, the improvising sections can be omitted. The optional guitar and bass parts are combined and the bass part is similar to the left hand of the piano part. An MP3 file of all the piano accompaniments is also available as a separate item. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679714 All five parts are presented in a single PDF file. The three numbers are: 1. Highway South - This is a jazz style number written in 6/8 time in concert G minor. There is an improvisation section in the minor key which can be repeated as often as required. It’s a real swinger and useful for giving students the experience of working in a minor key. 2. Summer Siesta - This is a slow number in E flat major which gives the opportunity to practise a soft singing tone-quality over chromatic shifts in harmony 3. Tequila Surprise - Written in 4/4 time in E flat, this is a Latin-style fun piece that lets the participants create surprises during the empty bars. The surprises can be musical or non-musical, depending on the performance occasion and there’s an improvisation section which can be repeated as often as required. The audio sample contains all three titles. Play-along backing tracks are available here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20679714

Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.1046270). Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer who crafted his works using the techniques of musical counterpoint within traditional forms. Within those strictures he created many beautiful and powerful works. Barely 20 years old, Brahms wrote this in 1853. It is the second of five movements. Being his last piano sonata, it is his biggest solo piano work. This movement begins with a quotation from a poem by Otto Inkermann: Through evening's shade, the pale moon gleams While rapt in love's ecstatic dreams Two hearts are fondly beating. This is an arrangement by Richard Byrnes for Piccolo, 3 Flutes, 4 Trumpets, 2 Horn2, 2 Euphoniums, & 2 Tubas. In addition to many works by Brahms, we offer works by Bach, Debussy, Dvorák, Fauré, Glazounov, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Griffes, Lotti, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, Turina, & Vierne.

Brass Band Bass Trombone,Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Piccolo Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1047096 Composed by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Arranged by Richard Decker. 20th Century,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,World. 80 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #651613. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.1047096). This brilliant brass choir arrangement captures the excitement of the composer’s orchestral showpiece Danse Nègre from his African Suite, Op. 35. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. The five-minute arrangement is scored for four B-flat trumpets (1st trumpet doubles on piccolo B-flat; trumpets 3 and 4 double on flugelhorn), 4 horns, 3 trombones, euphonium and tuba with brass orchestration that mirrors the texture and excitement of Coleridge-Taylor's orchestral work to inspire performers and excite audiences. Consider this impressive arrangement to feature your band or orchestra brass section on your next concert. The recording is of the entire arrangement. “The Music of Black Composers Series is a welcome and timely addition to the brass repertoire. Han-Ki Kim #170955. Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.561517). “Korean Simple Suite†No.3 For Piano Trio Op.273D “Happy Wedding†It is a work depicting the wedding ceremony of the bride and groom held in a traditional Korean front yard and the surrounding scenery. as far as melody is concerned, the traditional five notes of Korea, “Do.re.mi.sol.la.†are mainly used. It consists of five movements as follows: 1. The Front Yard 2. Yeonji Gonzi 3. Joyful Dance 4. Waiting (Longing) 5. The Bride and Groom Movement 1, The Front Yard: In G minor in 8/12 time, it is a short song with a bright atmosphere. The front yard is a friendly place for villagers' gatherings and events. Movement 2, Yeonzi – Gonzi: In G major in 4/4 time, natural harmonics are used to describe the mysterious oriental atmosphere. The meaning of Yeonji Gonji is the red dot on the cheeks and forehead of the bride in a traditional wedding ceremony. Movement 3, Joyful Dance: 3/4 time B flat major, composed in ABA format, expressed the joy of dancing in Korea. Movement 4, Longing: In G minor in 6/4 time, we tried to express oriental waiting. Movement 5, The Bride and Groom : It is composed of 4/4 time and 6/4 time, and like the title of the title of Groom and Bride, it shows the contrasting character of liveliness and calm. It was composed in a rondo style that goes back and forth between D minor and F major. Attached musicfile is only 1st movement, it's just for a reference.

Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. Brass Band. 189 pages. Danetre Music #1046092. Published by Danetre Music (A0.1467794). A Suite for British Style Brass Band which was chosen as the 4th Section Test Piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships 2015 in Skegness, UK. Each movement is based on a famous French Impressionist painting as follows:1. Boulevard Montmarte (Pissarro – 1897) The Boulevard Montmartre is one of the four grand boulevards of Paris. This painting gave me the idea of writing a piece to portray a journey in a pony and trap through this busy street scene, starting out serenely in the suburbs, travelling through all the hustle and bustle, before trailing off into the distance. An all pervasive Poulenc mouvement perpetual accompaniment style is present throughout this movement. 2. Lac d'Annecy (Cézanne - 1896) Although marked Waltz triste (sad waltz), the mood of the music is rather reflective in nature. This movement is the longest of the five and I would not recommend it being played too slow. Stylistically, it is a characteristic accordion piece, so touches of rubato here and there wouldn’t be out of keeping. 3. La Cathédrale de Rouen (Monet - 1894) This is the most difficult movement to play in respect of intonation, with lots of unisons, octaves and parallel intervals. The opening should be a true piano in order to allow the piece grow. The plainsong statements should be played smoothly and with plenty of air. 4. Les Parapluies (Renoir - 1884) A jaunty, playful theme leading in to a little fugue. A little low in places for the euphoniums and baritones. The music should skip along comfortably without rushing to allow the finer detail to come through. 5. Au Moulin Rouge (Toulouse-Lautrec - 1895) A lively tempo, always chasing forward without slackening. As in the previous movement, good dynamic contrast, swells and tight precise articulation. Lots of work for everyone, especially the baritones and euphoniums. Take care that the mf dynamic of the 'bass solo' is not overdone. If needs must, the siren whistle could be substituted with a referee's whistle, but I would like my duck call! The champagne cork 'pops' are really more visual than audible, however, it would be advisable for more of the band to join in, as required.
