Strings and basso continuo - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q24162 Composed by Pietro Antonio Locatelli. This edition: study score. Ernst Eulenburg - Orchestra - Score. Eulenburg Miniature Scores. Downloadable, Study score. Volume op. 4/7-12, Op Band 2. Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital #Q24162. Published by Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital (S9.Q24162). Key: F major. For the six concertos that make up the second part of the Op. 4, Locatelli prescribed eight parts: Violino Primo, Secondo, Alto, è Violoncello, Soli. Violino Primo, Secondo, Alto, è Basso, Ripieni. The use of such forces immediately reminds one of the Corellian concerto grosso, to which Locatelli contributed also in his Op. 1, 7 and 9. But though the instrumentation used in this set seems to feature a clear opposition between the concertino (with solo parts) and the ripieno (with parts that can be doubled), we here encounter a group of works that are very varied in form, instrumentation and structure. Taken as a whole the concertos of the Op. 4 ideally exemplify the developments of Italian Baroque instrumental music: they reveal the close kinship between the concerto grosso and the sonata (as in Concerto X); they also show the derivation of the solo concerto from the concerto grosso; and there are even hints of thematic development and tripartite structures. Also featured are dynamic markings and other performing indications that were rare for the period and show increasing attention to the precise definition of sonorities.

Small Ensemble Clarinet,Flute,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792337 Composed by Wanhal, Johann B. Arranged by Yarbrough, Janet. Baroque,Classical,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 198 pages. Gordon Cherry #4804651. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792337). Johann Wanhal (Vanhal) was an important classical composer from Bohemian/Czech heritage (1739-1813). His main living was as an organist and choirmaster, however Wanhal's musical output as a composer includes over a dozen concerti, many symphonies, chamber music, operas and much sacred music including 58 masses. Wanhal is rumored to have played chamber music with Mozart, Haydn and Dittersdorf, with Wanhal on the cello. In the 1770's Wanhal met the contrabassist Johannes Matthias Sperger and wrote a double bass concerto for him. The Concerto is in the key of E-Flat (original key of D for the double bass) in three movements and has been expertly arranged for Tuba and classical wind ensemble by Ms. Janet Yarbrough of Duke University. This work is also available with a piano reduction.

String Ensemble,String Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813614 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,World. Score and parts. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #6433319. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813614). String Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of the Allegro movement from Henry Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. This selection is one of the arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library, many of which are being made available for the first time. They have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos. Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists, besides trumpet players, could also have the opportunity to play the Allegro movement from Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet, so he has created other arrangements of this selection. This particular arrangement is for a String Quintet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass, and features the Double Bass on the melody, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this piece. You may find something else that may suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check back periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Purcell's Allegro from his Sonata for Trumpet will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

String Ensemble,String Quintet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813376 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,World. Score and parts. 43 pages. Regis Bookshar #6209757. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813376). String Quintet - Advanced - Digital Download. This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a String Quintet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players and may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (43 pages). In addition to this version for a String Quintet, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will be a challenge to many performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed working on it.

Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553802 Composed by Arcangelo Corelli. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Baroque,Christmas,Sacred. Score and parts. 13 pages. RayThompsonMusic #4744483. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553802). Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8 by Arcangelo Corelli, known commonly as the Christmas Concerto, was commissioned by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and published posthumously in 1714 as part of Corelli's Twelve concerti grossi, Op. 6. Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,English Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549199 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 42 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458615. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549199). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: 4 oboes, 2 English horns, 2 bassoons, 1 contrabassoon (or 3 bassoons). Duration: 3:00, cut time 4/2 at half-note = 96, 71 ms. Score: 24 pg. parts: 2 pg. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony, and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this either at the beginning to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not difficult but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo. String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813619 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Instructional,Multicultural,Standards,World. Score and parts. 10 pages. Regis Bookshar #6433335. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813619). String Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (10 pages). This particular arrangement is for a String Sextet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 2 Violoncellos and 1 Double Bass, and features the Double Bass on the melody, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles.

Score and parts. 64 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038607. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533689). Concerto for Bass Trombone and Six Players (2006) was commissioned by the CarnegieMellon School of Music for the Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble, Walter Morales, director. The work is dedicated to trombonist Jim Siders, for whom the solo part was written. The work is scored for solo bass trombone with an ensemble of primarily “dark†instruments– alto flute, clarinet, viola, cello, contrabass, and percussion. The solo bass trombone is thefocal point of the musical discourse, acting throughout largely as a protagonist – with muchmaterial best described as bitterly lyrical. The work maintains a generally dark, obsessive, and bitter tone throughout.Unlike some concerti, however, the work is not about an aggression between soloist and therest of the ensemble. Rather the bass trombone is “first†among a collection of like mindedindividuals – all expressing the same sentiments and aggressions. The opening section is marked “spasmodic.†Quiet nervous twitches serve as a backdrop to amelodic unfolding of the basic material and interval content. The end of this part “breaksapart†to reveal a section marked “slow, otherworldly.†The harmonic material starts modal, open, and “distant†in feeling (perhaps a recollection of a distant past) before becominggradually gnarled again. The trombone leads towards the next section: an ever-building athletic “moto perpetuo.†Thisreaches its peak in an aggressive and horribly angry climax – with a wide-ranging trombonepart marked “wildly raving; insane, uglyâ€, obliterated by bass drum hits and shriekinghammer blows from the other instruments.A nervous and timid interlude returns to the nervous twitching of the opening – thougheverything is slightly slower and more hushed than before, finally breaking off into anenigmatic coda.Alto FluteClarinet in BbPercussion (1 player):bass drum, marimba, crotales(Percussionist needs one rosined bow for crotales.)ViolaCelloContrabassThis is the score and parts. String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813622 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Instructional,Multicultural,Standards,World. Score and parts. 10 pages. Regis Bookshar #6433341. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813622). String Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (10 pages). This particular arrangement is for a String Sextet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 2 Violoncellos and 1 Double Bass, and features a Violoncello on the melody, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this piece. You may find something else that may suit your needs.
