Icarus Also Flew: A Pairing with Beethoven's Symphony #5 - Bass Trombone

Bass Trombone,Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018890 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6056111. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018890). Programme Notes: Icarus Also Flew takes its title from the first line of the poem Failing and Flying by Jack Gilbert. He is referring to the classical myth of Daedalus and Icarus, an inventive father and son who bravely escape from their imprisonment in a tower by collecting the disposed feathers of seabirds, then fashion wings out of them and fly away. While the story is often treated as a morality tale--listen to your elders, don’t get cocky like the young man, Icarus, who, in such an understandable state of elation, ascended too close to the sun thus causing the wings to melt and his tumbling to his Mediterranean death--what Jack Gilbert reminds us is how regardless of one’s failure, the sheer transcendental experience of mortal flight remains glorious and unforgettable. Icarus’s fall was not into a legacy of disdain and oblivion, but in truth, he had come to the end of his triumph. This piece was the first of a series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies--his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!--though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his celebrated fifth symphony in C minor--the Fate symphony, as it is commonly known. I’ll let the listener find their own connections.About the Composer:Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Baritone Horn TC,Bass Trombone,E-Flat Cornet,E-Flat Tuba TC,Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.752393 By Willie Nelson. By Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Comedy,Film/TV,Jazz. 62 pages. RBMusic #5358961. Published by RBMusic (A0.752393). Written by Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee, Bring Me Sunshine was first recorded by The Mills Brothers in 1968 for their album My Shy Violet. In the UK, the song is associated with the comedy duo Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise, after it was used in the second series of their BBC show as their signature tune from 1969. This arrangement was requested by Lofthouse 2000 Brass Band, to bring some sunshine to his band whilst everyone was in lockdown during the 2019/2020 Coronavirus Pandemic. Whilst this arrangement is written for the standard brass dectet instrumentation of 4 trumpets, 1 French Horn, 4 trombones and 1 tuba (with optional drum kit part), it can also be performed by larger ensembles (such as the UK-style brass band) due to all of the alternative parts included (e.g. part for tenor horn and treble-clef lower brass instruments). There are also alternative parts for ensembles that only have 3 trumpets, or 3 trombones, etc. An alternative score has also been provided for ease of conducting in the UK. A recording of the song can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMY7j5U-LxI. Â Other Searchable Terms: Skip dance, Groucho Marx, Brenda Lee, Johnny One Time, Jack Greene, Statue of a Fool, Chet Atkins, Yestergroovin', Liz Damon, Orient Express, Willie Nelson, Spotlight on Willie Nelson, Mickey Gilley, Mickey at Gilleys, Cliff Adams Singers, Sing Something Simple Collection: Sentimental Journey, Mrs Mills, Gladys Mills, The Very Best of Mrs. Mills, Richard Shelton, Top Cat, Foster & Allen, Oleg Frish with Patrick Williams & His Big Band, The Jive Aces, King of the Swingers: A Salute to Louis Prima, Violetta Zironi, cookies, Pavesini, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe with the Rays of Sunshine Children's Choir & Friends

Alto Voice,Vocal Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1022081 Composed by Bill Taylor and Jaye Alison Moscariello, lyrics and Bill Taylor music. Contemporary,Jazz,Sacred. 7 pages. William R Taylor #6475263. Published by William R Taylor (A0.1022081). Nature’s Dream (©2012) – Piano, Vocal, Flute, Soprano Sax, Upright Bass. The first several bars came to me in a 2011 vivid dream in which Paul McCandless was playing soaring soprano sax melodies and Jaye Alison Moscariello was singing lyrics I did not remember from the dream. It was originally in D with some Dad-related chord progressions. This version is in A to better fit the alto voice. After writing 3 verses of rather convoluted lyrics about healing the planet, Jaye helped pare it down to one powerful verse that could be a world anthem. George and Paul play solos during the instrumental break. We think this would make a great national, or international, anthem. This is our planet, the one that we all share Let us remember that all life breathes the air Our world is sacred, its future in our trust And it continues after bodies turn to dust Shall we continue to think we own the beasts? Or know the truth that all of us share the feast? Grow for each other and for the creatures too Plant life and fungi nourish the whole zoo Lessons we’ve learned from species that have passed Transform our ways or we may not last Take time to learn what ancestors teach us Honor the spirit residing in that which feeds us Act for the future of seven generations And together we can share in this dance of life Act for the future of seven generations Act for the welfare of seven generations

Wieder ein diatonisches Stück von mir, ohne Modulation! 7 Töne genügen mir oft im Raum einer Tonleiter mich auszusingen! In spring nature wakes up again and our soul breaths all over again! Enjoy the triplets´flowing up and down! The half-closes always have a friendly character of a question. Here you shouldn´t feel any sorrows. String Quintet Cello,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1108388 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 25 pages. Regis Bookshar #711028. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1108388). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - String Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a String Quintet, consisting of 3 Violins and 2 Violoncellos, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a String Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

String Ensemble Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112138 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 41 pages. Regis Bookshar #714324. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1112138). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - String Septet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a String Sextet, consisting of 3 Violins, 1 Viola and 3 Violoncellos, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (41 pages).

String Ensemble Cello,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1111381 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 28 pages. Regis Bookshar #713668. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1111381). Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - String Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a String Sextet, consisting of 3 Violins and 3 Violoncellos, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (28 pages).
