It was written by the band's guitarist and main songwriter Noel Gallagher. The song was produced by Gallagher and Owen Morris. Released on 19 February 1996 as the fourth single from their second studio album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), it became Oasis's second single to reach No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, where it also went platinum.[1] It was the first Oasis single with lead vocals by Noel, who had previously only sung lead on B-sides, instead of his brother Liam. Noel would later sing lead vocals on six more singles. The song is in the key of C, but pitched slightly sharp of the standard concert tuning of A 440 at 451. It is one of the band's signature songs, and was played at almost every single live show from its release to the dissolution of the band in 2009. In 2012, it was ranked No. 1 on a list of the 50 Most Explosive Choruses by NME,[2] and the same year it was voted the fourth-most-popular No. 1 single of the last 60 years in the UK by the public in conjunction with the Official Charts Company's 60th anniversary.[3] In 2015, Rolling Stone readers voted it the second-greatest Britpop song after Common People by Pulp.[4] On 29 May 2017, Absolute Radio 90s broadcast a programme counting down the top 50 songs written by Noel Gallagher to mark his 50th birthday, with the song being voted No. 1. In August 2020, the song was voted as the greatest song of the '90s by listeners of Absolute Radio 90s as part of celebrations for the station's tenth anniversary.

We are always looking for places to go together, as well as excuses to include each other in our own individual travels. One of my personal favorite travel opportunities is the International Double Reed Society conference. It is an opportunity to catch up with friends, make new friends and contacts, and make beautiful music. A number of years ago, I started the All Star Double Reed Band that has now premiered over a dozen new pieces for large double reed ensemble, and has recorded an album of those works. As a combined labor of love, I wrote Impressions of Yellowstone for my wife, a concert pianist, to perform with this group.The first movement, “Little Grand Canyon opens with a chorale in the piano illustrating the simple majesty of the great and wondrous park that my wife and I visit annually with her parents. From there, the music exemplifies my impression of this wondrous landscape; beautiful, powerful. A deep valley with a waterfall on one end, it is one of the more beautiful sites to see in Yellowstone.The second movement, Grand Prismatic, is a musical impression of the different perspectives of this very famous Yellowstone landmark. From the overlook, you see a stunning pond with steam emanating from it and surrounded by color. However, if you are to go down and stand next to the hotspot, your perspective changes greatly. Sulfur smells, danger from the soft crust (with boiling sulfuric liquid just below the surface), and a hot, steamy fog of mist permeate the area.In the finale, Old Faithful, tone painting is brought out in full force as the opening piano solo material brings about the image of the geyser bubbling and building below the surface. Then, at the point of explosion, you hear the water falling and the delight of all of the dozens of onlookers who visit this most famous site at Yellowstone every day.The original version, for double reeds, is dedicated the All Star Double Reed Band and my wife, Tammy Miller, who recorded it on the Co-Op Press label.The version for piano and string orchestra is dedicated to Tammy and the National Composers Orchestra who recorded it on the Baldwin Records label.

The only one of Chaucer’s works that is scientific, not literary, in nature, A Treatise on the Astrolabe represents the oldest known English-language scientific manual and is a personal manual for his son on how to use an astrolabe, an ancient astronomical instrument. The that this work was created for a practical rather than artistic purpose was particularly appealing – it called to mind Walter Miller’s A Canticle for Leibowitz, when Brother Francis creates an illumination of a relic of St. Leibowitz, unaware that the relic was in fact a simple, and quite ordinary, circuit diagram.Presented here are seven songs divided among four parts. The first part, Prelude, contains one song, a setting of Chaucer’s personal introduction to his son, Lewis. The second, Here Begynneth the descripcioun of thin Astrolabie, contains three songs describing various components of the astrolabe. The worken the verrey pracktik of the forseide conclusions follows with two songs explaining the use of the astrolabe to calculate the position of the sun and the time of dawn and dusk; here, the words are spoken rather than sung. I believe that trumpet students should begin performing from the start of their careers. The problem with this belief is that there isn’t much good music written for the beginners to perform. Most of what is published is “dumbed down†and doesn’t sound like real music. I have been trying to fill that cap by composing pieces for the beginners that I would be proud to perform in public. My objective with these compositions is to write music that sounds like real music, but functions within the limitations of the beginners’ trumpet skills. My first compositions of this nature were the three bird solos, Bird March, Feathered Friends and The Purple Parrot (which I let my then current students name). One of those students performed the Bird March solo at a school assembly only three or four months after she started playing the trumpet. That student eventually quit trumpet to pursue a busy performance career in theater (she was an elementary school student) but performing the Bird March for her fellow students is a memory she will always fondly look back on. That is part of why performing early in the learning process is so important. You don’t know when students will continue, and which ones will not. For those students whose trumpet careers end up being no longer than a year, the one or two performances they have in that year are all they will have to look back on. Unfortunately, those who do not perform at all will only ever remember the drudgery of pointless practice and rehearsals. But there’s more to my early performance philosophy than just that. For those students who do continue their trumpet careers for many years, the earlier performances have a mental benefit that cannot be replaced in any other way. Their future progress on the trumpet is greatly enhanced by each performance they present in the first two years of their trumpet careers.

Something quite astonishing has happened in the Swedish accordion world during the last couple of years, we´ve got a new idol. It´s astonishing in two different ways: for us who know the accordion world it´s a fact that Lars Ek has been around as a professional accordionist for almost 20 years, since he finished school, second: he has become an idol playing music and in a style that has it´s roots 50 years back in the accordion music history. One could say that Lars Ek, today 35 years old, should have been 85, active in the 30´s. Himself, he confess that he feels kind of secret longing back to a time when accordionists were equilibrists, when accordionists played in a brilliant way, the golden age it was for all accordion music all over the world, an age that we will never meet again. It´s a type of music which is historical but not belonging to the museums, not dead, it´s a typical of music filled with life. Very much so thanks to Lars Ek. It´s a quite notable situation. Lars Ek has been playing the accordion for a long time, he has been playing all types of music that can be played on an accordion. Just some few years ago he met, via phonograph records, the music of Nils Lind and Ragge Sundquist (two legendary Swedish performers from the 30´s and the 40´s, both dead since long ago - they both founded a school and a style) and, of course, also Frosini. And then, finally, Lars Ek felt that it was exactly here, in this style where he belonged. Lars Ek finally came home. Some sloppy listeners say that Lars Ek is copying the music of Nils Lind. Those are listeners who don´t listen. Others say that Lars is a maniac - he plays on an accordion of the Raggie Sundquist brand from 1937 and since a couple of years he also owns and plays an accordion once owned by Pietro Frosini, manufactured in 1927. That´s not mania. The style asks for such instruments. It´s most correct that way. Lars Ek has become incredibly popular. There are many reasons. He has lots of personality, he is a stage personality, he shows enthusiasm and joy while performing, he knows how to attract an audience (and the girls say he´s very handsome). One other reason is that the music Lars performs finds lots of response from the audience. And, please, don´t think it´s only those old ones who were around in the 30´s who love the music - so do even the young ones! Lars Ek x 2 is the name of the record. The explanation is simple. Lars wasn´t able to find a second accordionist to assist him. So, thanks to the technique he is his own second accordionist himself in five of the tunes performed. There is one more explanation. Lars performs melodies linked to the names of Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist and Frosini, but he also plays five compositions of hes own. Just to show how he wants accordion music to be composed. Lars Ek does not need any recommendation, his records sell anyway. But you´re going to get some final words. This records is, regarding style, very rare to be recorded in 1982, it´s a matter of looking back and to do so with lots of skill, a look back that golden age of the accordion. It´s also a very personal record. The inspiration may very well be Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist and Pietro Frosini. But it´s Lars Ek who plays. In his personal way. Something quite astonishing has happened in the Swedish accordion world during the last couple of years, we´ve got a new idol. It´s astonishing in two different ways: for us who know the accordion world it´s a fact that Lars Ek has been around as a professional accordionist for almost 20 years, since he finished school, second: he has become an idol playing music and in a style that has it´s roots 50 years back in the accordion music history. One could say that Lars Ek, today 35 years old, should have been 85, active in the 30´s. Himself, he confess that he feels kind of secret longing back to a time when accordionists were equilibrists, when accordionists played in a brilliant way, the golden age it was for all accordion music all over the world, an age that we will never meet again. It´s a type of music which is historical but not belonging to the museums, not dead, it´s a typical of music filled with life. Very much so thanks to Lars Ek. It´s a quite notable situation. Lars Ek has been playing the accordion for a long time, he has been playing all types of music that can be played on an accordion. Just some few years ago he met, via phonograph records, the music of Nils Lind and Ragge Sundquist (two legendary Swedish performers from the 30´s and the 40´s, both dead since long ago - they both founded a school and a style) and, of course, also Frosini. And then, finally, Lars Ek felt that it was exactly here, in this style where he belonged. Lars Ek finally came home. Some sloppy listeners say that Lars Ek is copying the music of Nils Lind. Those are listeners who don´t listen. Others say that Lars is a maniac - he plays on an accordion of the Raggie Sundquist brand from 1937 and since a couple of years he also owns and plays an accordion once owned by Pietro Frosini, manufactured in 1927. That´s not mania. The style asks for such instruments. It´s most correct that way. Lars Ek has become incredibly popular. There are many reasons. He has lots of personality, he is a stage personality, he shows enthusiasm and joy while performing, he knows how to attract an audience (and the girls say he´s very handsome). One other reason is that the music Lars performs finds lots of response from the audience. And, please, don´t think it´s only those old ones who were around in the 30´s who love the music - so do even the young ones! Lars Ek x 2 is the name of the record. The explanation is simple. Lars wasn´t able to find a second accordionist to assist him. So, thanks to the technique he is his own second accordionist himself in five of the tunes performed. There is one more explanation. Lars performs melodies linked to the names of Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist and Frosini, but he also plays five compositions of hes own. Just to show how he wants accordion music to be composed. Lars Ek does not need any recommendation, his records sell anyway. But you´re going to get some final words. This records is, regarding style, very rare to be recorded in 1982, it´s a matter of looking back and to do so with lots of skill, a look back that golden age of the accordion. It´s also a very personal record. The inspiration may very well be Nils Lind, Ragge Sundquist and Pietro Frosini. But it´s Lars Ek who plays. In his personal way. Which means that this is a record played in a very personal way.
