SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY is a collection of short pieces with a more melodic and in some cases rhythmic character. The pieces were composed individually for different occasions, but they work together somehow and offer the performer and the audience a roller-coaster sensation through the constant change of mood. Danceuphoria is the opening piece, an uneven, powerful dance which immediately creates an uplifting mood. Melodic Sorrow is a piece dedicated to the memory of my father, Konstantinos Nousis. It's one of the first pieces I wrote for guitar as a teenager. Here you can read an evolved version of that first piece which keeps the simplicity of the primary inspiration.Lifeness is an ode to life piece full of rich colors, melodies and harmonies. Meditation, originally written as the theme music for a Reiki Yoga YouTube channel, is a very slow and meditative piece with short melodic legato lines. Hope evokes warmer feelings. A simplistic piece based on natural harmonies that calms and soothes us.Finally, Cascading Waltz was chosen as the final piece, because it can be freely interpreted by any performer and gives the opportunity for diverse crescendos and accelerandos.The pieces can complement the repertoire of young students as well as professional guitarists who seek a modern yet melodic approach to the guitar.SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY est une collection de courtes pièces au caractère plus mélodique et, dans certains cas, rythmique. In this arrangement for trombone quintet, the melody is predominantly in the first and 2nd parts, with the range on the first part up to b1 above the staff and the second trombone goes to a1 above the staff. This song is often performed without the verse, which precedes the chorus, but is included in this arrangement, set apart with a lighter texture and slower tempo. The stretching of pulse in the first measure can be omitted if the cohesiveness of the ensemble dictates. The familiar chorus should have a comfortable swing feel. The lyrics, by George Norton, Come to me my melancholy baby, Cuddle up and don't be blue, have probably been whispered between partners countless times. This infectious little tune has been recorded in a variety of tempos and styles, from sultry ballad to up tempo swing, by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Charlie Parker. The combination of lyrics and melody have made this a timeless hit. The arranger, Bob Coil, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he studied bass trombone with Betty Glover. Dr. Coil is the leader of the Bones of Cincinnatus trombone ensemble in Cincinnati, OH.

This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q7324. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7324). With his piano cycle Pictures at an Exhibition from 1874, Mussorgsky created a classic example of programme music. Based on the paintings of his deceased friend Viktor Hartmann, he also composed the lyrical serenade 'Il vecchio castello' (The Old Castle), among others. Hartmann's picture shows a medieval Italian castle with a singing troubadour who accompanies himself on the lute. In Maurice Ravel's subsequent famous orchestral version, the beautiful, melancholy melody was played by the alto saxophone. Accompaniment, prelude and interludes are reminiscent of playing a medieval hurdy-gurdy with its pervading drone bass. Therein lies the continuity of the piece, thereabove lies the quiet romance with its melancholy character – the unrequited love of the troubadour. This separate edition now gives all saxophonists the opportunity to play the piece with piano accompaniment.

DIES PACIS is dedicated to the memory of Gordon Francis Blaney, Jr. He was a multi-instrumentalist and Berklee alum. We met through a variety of Facebook groups devoted to music composition and orchestration. He had mental health issues, autism, and epilepsy. Gordon died tragically in a car accident in 2020, at the age of 37. Gordon and I would talk about music, mental health, and spirituality on a regular basis. One of my spiritual views is that death is a form of relief from pain, similar to serenity or peace. (In Latin, PACIS.) Gordon's life was cut short, as evidenced by the unresolved music over notes G, F, and B (Gordon's initials).
