Advanced harpists with limited access to string players will appreciate the instrumentation of the work - flute, clarinet, and pedal harp. While the full score contains no harp-specific markings, the harp part is well-edited (by a harpist) with pedal changes, pedal charts, and all necessary flute/clarinet cues. The instrument parts are closely based on the original accompaniment but creatively express the arc of the text. It can go from violin duet to full ensemble and everything in between depending on the mood of the current lyric. Tremelos and trills are added when drama and tension are needed, sweeping runs for climaxes, spiccato technique for he shall break the chains, and so forth. One of that set was called Roadside Inn, which I have arranged for Instrumental Solo with Piano Accompaniment. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. I took themes and fragments of themes from the original and re-ordered them into a bit of a rondo form. There are interpretive marks in every measure making it a great piece for auditions to show your technique and interpretation. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. Another feature is the beautiful harmonic interplay between the solo and accompaniment.
