SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY is a collection of short pieces with a more melodic and in some cases rhythmic character. The pieces were composed individually for different occasions, but they work together somehow and offer the performer and the audience a roller-coaster sensation through the constant change of mood. Danceuphoria is the opening piece, an uneven, powerful dance which immediately creates an uplifting mood. Melodic Sorrow is a piece dedicated to the memory of my father, Konstantinos Nousis. It's one of the first pieces I wrote for guitar as a teenager. Here you can read an evolved version of that first piece which keeps the simplicity of the primary inspiration.Lifeness is an ode to life piece full of rich colors, melodies and harmonies. Meditation, originally written as the theme music for a Reiki Yoga YouTube channel, is a very slow and meditative piece with short melodic legato lines. Hope evokes warmer feelings. A simplistic piece based on natural harmonies that calms and soothes us.Finally, Cascading Waltz was chosen as the final piece, because it can be freely interpreted by any performer and gives the opportunity for diverse crescendos and accelerandos.The pieces can complement the repertoire of young students as well as professional guitarists who seek a modern yet melodic approach to the guitar.SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY est une collection de courtes pièces au caractère plus mélodique et, dans certains cas, rythmique. A selection of 44 Dance Consort pieces from publications dating from 1500 to 1620 in three, four or five part scores and fully chorded with lyricsRenaissance Dance music provides some of the most simple yet satisfying pieces to play in ensemble on a wide range of instruments.  They are suitable for recorders, modern strings, woodwinds or brass, or where available, reproductions of 16th century instruments, such as crumhorns, viols or shawms to name but a few.The 44 pieces that first  appeared in the publication Chording to the Dance Masters, are  presented in full score and with separate parts for each of the lines.  What is more, a number of the pieces have been re-edited to include their lyrics, should you wish to perform them vocally.  They represent some of the best known secular pieces of the Renaissance repertoire.What makes this Wold Meridian edition of these pieces different  from others is that they have been created to make performing them as accessible as possible.  Chords have been provided so that the piece can be played with just the melody line and a simple accompaniment.  It also means that keyboard players or fretted strings can join in with ensembles, giving extra sparkle to performances.Each piece can be heard in a video on YouTube with illustrations and historical background information.  Even more helpful for players who are less experienced in reading harmony lines, there is a YouTube video link featuring each part, where it is heard initially on its own with the chords, on repeats with the melody line added and finally together with all the parts in the whole ensemble.  If you have not had the pleasure of playing in consort with other people, you could not do better than start with these Wold Meridian editions.

The continuo works really well on organ, since there are a lot of special chords in the music. Also harpsichord works fine. This edition is urtext, which means that it is taken exactly from the manuscript. However, in this edition the clefs are changed to modern, easy-to-read clefs. If you are looking for an edition with historical clefs, please look for Iesu Dulcis Memoria on this website. As far as I know, this piece has never been published in a modern version and is very rarely performed.

In this piece, I have sought to explore these differences.Among these uniquely diverse group of animals are the African Lungfish, with itsability to breathe through special lungs, living in hardened clay burrows during thedry season, awaiting the coming rains; the Shoe-Billed Stork, the largest bird offlight with its icy stare and prehistoric appearance, with an aggressively unusualcall; the Alligator, unchanged for millennia, living side by side with it Kingfisherneighbors, not always peacefully; and the Aardvark, the great nocturnal excavatorof Africa.I have long been fascinated by fossils. The urge to learn as much as I could aboutprehistoric animals has never left me, like it does to most around the age of 10.Paired with my love of zoos, being interested in living fossils only makes sense.A portion of all proceeds from Modern Dinosaur will go to the Henry Doorly Zooand Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska. Fein, whose father lived at this address on a street in South Philadelphia, she found mystical attachment to this number. When she died, I wrote this piece in her memory, and used these numbers in subtle ways to create the work. Melomanie performed and recorded the work on their CD Flourescence under its original title, Partita 622 [sic]. The harpsichord should be tuned as close to equal temperament as possible if playing with modern instruments, but a slight tinge of mean tone is highly acceptible. Melomanie performed with a viola da gamba but with otherwise modern instruments. Parts are included in the score.
