It is an odd form in that it does not contain any departure from the central idea; therefore there is no return. The story has a beginning and ending but uses subtle variation to push the idea along its way. .. much the way loving relationships evolve. The equivalent of the story song in classical music is a Poem, and this is what I have called this piece. An inspiration I used for my musical poem was the ocean and itâ€™s repetition of waves as they fall in to the shoreline. I grew up near the ocean and remember how the sounds of the relentless waves used tocalm me. While it was the repetitive sound of the sea that moved me as a child, today, I observed that each wave was not the same but in fact slightly different. I was amazed that it seemed that no two waves looked or sounded the same to me. This natural occurrence seemed to mirror my love for wife Carla. Each day was just something a tiny bit different. It was very natural to make these kinds of life experience connections. Bridges that joined nature, love and art. The poem begins slowly and inquisitively and builds through in intensity with loud and mightily passionate moments of emotion before the music comes down peacefully and reflectively, until the last statement played by the violin signifies that the sea is calm once again. This trio was commissioned for a Ken Cro-Ken art opening at Park Art in New York City. It is played from the score. A separate score in concert pitch is included for the soprano. The melody and lyrics are like the original as far as I can tell, but I did make changes to the harmony. Usually these changes to the harmony are to enhance the word painting, or to have it be more idiomatic to guitar. A version like this is ideal for someone who wants to play a very fancy version of the song on solo guitar, though adding vocals in should still be fairly easy. I personally sing a lot better if I can play the melody first on guitar because then I know exactly what I'm doing. Versions like these can really be as simple or as complex as you want, if you want something simple, just play the chord diagrams and sing!1. Guitar Arrangement Lead Sheet Style2. Guitar Tab 3. Chord Charts 4. Less stereotypical chords 5. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 6. Voice leading considerations 7. Making the music idiomatic for guitarTips:1. Notes with the stem direction going down are background harmonies that should be played quietly. This hidden meaning tends to only happen with polyphonic instruments such as piano and guitar. You'll eventually notice this anyways because there is no lyric underneath the note.1. Slurs are notated to the make the music easier and better sounding for guitar not vocals, though of course it often mimicks slurs similiar to a vocalist.2.Â Fmaj7(#11) is not in the original and is a key change since it includes an F and not an F#.3.Â Sometimes it can look like the melody does not contain a key change, but then when you anaylze the letter names of the chords, you will find that there is indeed key changes in the chords. The Beatles is a good example of a band that does this often.4.Â E minor and G major chords technically only need 2 or 3 notes. This is one simple but effective strategy to have less cliche chords.5. The F(#5)(#11) chord in the second to last measure could probably be just an F major chord.6. The E natural in measure 42 could be an Eb if the harmony is too avant-garde for you. Made sense to me because of word painting and I wanted a keyless and dreamy feeling for the end.Â 7. G/B chords are arguably nicer than a full G chord, though of course the decision is ultimately up to. It is better because the chord is imperfect, it causes the audience to not clap too soon. I also only strum the chord up to where the vocal melody is happening, that way the main melody is always in the spot light, and I find songs are easier to sing this way.

Published by Des Press (A0.977349). The CKZD is based on a source from LÃ¼beck, dated 1598; a book of principale Sonatas upon which a group of trumpeters and timpanists would improvise together. This piece was reconstructed following sources such as Bendenelli and the Toccata from Monteverdi's L'Orfeo. CKZD is most probably a dedication to Christian, KÃ¶nig zu DÃ¤nemark (Christian, King of Denmark). This version was commissioned by Trummet, a historical natural-trumpet group led by Julian Zimmermann. The ideal sound picture is of a pyramid, with the weight at the bottom and a light top, dancing in the resonance of the overtones. The lower parts should be played with a full, vibrant sound and rhythmical, clear attack, giving welcome support to those above. Trumpets 5 and 6 must take care that their drone of a 5th is always pure, like a power-chord on a rock guitar. Further ornamentation in all parts, especially the clarini, is to be encouraged within the written structure.

The text is made up of four different parts and set to music with different musical means. The first movement Wind has been composed for two three-part male-voice choirs. The music closely follows the natural declamation of the text, often in the form of a canon between the two choirs and the different voices. The second movement Licht is written for four parts. The light is presented in a slow tempo (poco rubato), often in high falsetto registers. Except for a forte outburst when darkness comes, the sound is very soft and gentle. The third movement is called Jugend and shall be performed by a young, enthusiastic and carefree tenor soloist. The text is based on many dactyls which gives the rhythm a youthful freshness. The fourth movement Alter tells how age progresses until the end. This is presented musically by a six-part canon which begins deep and soft and eventually culminates in high registers and a fortissimo. The work fades in a hardly audible pianissimo with the words of the preacher 'How everything is null and void! Everything is in vain!' (Robert Sund). Duration: 10 minutes.

Composed in 1813, and publised in 1889, Schubert's wind octet D72 is incomplete. The minuet and trio, and finale exist, along with a fragment of 100 bars of the first movement. The 2nd slow movement (if there was one) is missing. This is my 4 movement octet: 1.Allegro (finished by me from the â€œfragmentâ€) 2. Allegretto (from Rosamunde string quartetâ€ 3. Menuetto and 2 Trios (original) 4. Allegro (original) Mvt.1.The fragment seems to show the end of the development, flowing into the recapitulation. I have now completed the first movment, with the expostion starting in F, and 2nd theme moduating into the Dominant C major. An optional repeat has been added, the 2nd time bar has a diminshed 7th chord I have created a new deveopment section in D minor, using themes from the fragment , which then leads into the start of the fragment., which leads to the recapitualtion. This has both themes in F and brings the movement to an end The new movement is 232 bars long. I have made some light tweaks to Schubert's original work. My new 1st mvt. lasts 5 mins 2 seconds without my repeat. (About 7 mins 20 secs with) Check out my other arrangements for wind quartet, wind quintet and wind dectet Mvt.2 is an arrangement of the slow movement of the â€œRosamundeâ€ string quartet. I have transposed this into Bb. (NATURAL HORN PARTS in Bb basso)(Hn in F provided) Mvts 3/4 are Schubertâ€™s originals, but the clarinet parts are in Bb, rather than C. Claude Debussy was, by all accounts, totally devoted to his daughter Claude-Emma (affectionately known as Chouchou) The suite Children's Corner (for solo piano) is dedicated to Chouchou. She outlived her father by scarcely a year, succumbing to the diphtheria epidemic of 1919. (with information from Wikipedia). The naming of one or two among Debussy's piano works can raise issues in the light of current trends. These were not an issue during the composer's life, but are unlikely to be ignored today. The word Golliwog may have unwanted implications, but its omission may cause confusion with another of the composer's short piano works known simply as Cakewalk. The cakewalkÂ was a dance developed from the prize walks (dance contests with a cake awarded as the prize) held in the mid-19th century, generally at get-togethers on Black slave plantations before and after emancipation in the Southern United States.... It was originally a processional partner dance danced with comical formality, and may have developed as a subtle mockery of the mannered dances of white slaveholders. Following an exhibition of the cakewalk at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the cakewalk was adopted by performers in minstrel shows, where it was danced exclusively by men until the 1890s. At that point, Broadway shows featuring women began to include cakewalks, and grotesque dances became very popular across the country. Wexford Carol is a wonderful traditional Irish carol which may not be readily familiar. This arrangement for SB voices features independent vocal writing with a lot of canonic imitation. The melody juxtaposes F sharp and F natural as well as B flat and B natural over an open harmonic accompaniment giving a medieval, peasant-like feel. Adding a tambourine, drum, and/or finger cymbal would only enhance the performance. If you're looking for a lesser-known carol for your holiday program, Wexford Carol would be a delightful addition. It would also work as a duet and is available in other expanded voicings.
