Carso Cooman: Polpis Dreaming (2002) for Eb contrabass saxophone and piano

Small Ensemble Baritone Saxophone,Bass Saxophone,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533585 Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 15 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3029121. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533585). Polpis Dreaming (2002) for contrabass saxophone and piano was commissioned for and isdedicated to Jay C. Easton. The work was inspired by Easton's championing of the more unusual members of the saxophone family, particularly the contrabass with its incredibly powerful and deep sound. This work is recorded on Easton's SoLow CD.The title refers to Polpis, a region of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts that borders Nantucket Harbor with a variety of smaller inlets. This work is one of a variety of pieces connected to the landscape of Nantucket. In the case of this piece, the extra-musical image was one of the incredible depth of the ocean (perhaps parallel to the depth of the contrabass saxophone's sound) slowly being explored/achieved through the means of inlets. The work's basic material comes from the saxophone's opening gesture, which moves upwardfrom the bottom of the instrument. The pitch material and interval content that are transformed throughout the work are presented in that motion. The first section of the work is declamatory, with lyric impulses. The material of the work is unfolded as the sounds of the piano's resonance, combined with the tone of the contrabass saxophone are explored. A faster middle section occurs next in which the harmonic gestures and transformations are always moving towards greater consonance. After the middle section, there is a return to the mood of the opening, although the material of the middle section also appears in transformation.

Alto Voice,Cello,Flute,Piano Accompaniment,Soprano voice,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1405874 Composed by Connie Boss. Arranged by Connie Boss. Christian,Lent,Religious,Sacred,Spiritual. 17 pages. Connie Boss #988923. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1405874). The Lord's Prayer is very powerful spoken and many arrangements have been made. When we speak or sing it, we are asking God to forgive us our trespasses. I was inspired to compose this song from a sermon from our priest Father Boniface. This composition uses the lyrics from the Lord's Prayer and also has an echo part where the phrase Forgive Us is used. This version is for vocal quartet, with optional parts for flute or violin or and piano. It can easily be sung as a solo or duet and without the optional instruments if desired. I like the combo as it creates moving parts within it. Any questions or requests, email cdboss@cvalley.net.

Grieg: Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt Suite for Baritone Horn & Piano

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552857 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3511309. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552857). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore!Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

JOURNEY for Horn and Piano
Small Ensemble Horn,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.904619 Composed by R…

Small Ensemble Horn,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.904619 Composed by Rosemary Sugden Waltzer. Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. New City Music #6477279. Published by New City Music (A0.904619). This is a new recital piece for horn and piano with some special effects. Journey is a three movement work for horn and piano of approximately 15 minutes in duration. Score is 20 pages. Horn part is 7 pages. It travels from one scene to the next changing in texture, character and range. The first movement begins with acoustical elements of interaction between horn and piano as the horn introduction is interrupted by frequent rests so that the reverberations of the piano with damper pedal pressed can be heard. To hear the introduction on your computer please turn the sound up. The body of the movement features lyrical horn lines with unexpected harmonies with the piano and then scampers to the end. In the whimsical second movement the horn plays a happy-go-lucky tune with a smooth melodic line which is highlighted by a minimalist pattern in the piano with modulations that are often out-of-sync between horn and piano and is true to character until the final cadence. The third movement opens with a register of the piano strings temporarily covered by a bead chain which creates a metallic sonority to compliment the timbre of the stopped horn, thus resulting in a machine like effect. Then a heroic theme alternates with a playful dialog between horn and piano, changing moods and meters until the finale when Journey is completed. This is a fun and challenging piece to show off in a recital.

Still Still Still "Tis the Eve of our Savior's Birth String quartet and piano

Cello,Piano Accompaniment,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329687 Composed by Austrian Carol. Arranged by Connie Boss. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Religious. 25 pages. Connie Boss #917669. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1329687). This lovely lullaby is an Austrian carol from the 1800's. I built from the original by adding extra lyrics and changing up the melody slightly to the end of each verse. The lyrics are from We Three Kings, Silent Night and What Child is This. Each additional lyric ties into the verses of the song and adds an extension to the verse. This version has the verses broken up between the voices until the last verse. There are no repeat endings - it plays all the way through. This is for String quartet and piano. Parts are included with this purchaseAny questions or requests, email cdboss@cvalley.netLyrics:Still, still, stillOne can hear the falling snowFor all is hushedThe world is sleepingHoly Star its vigil keepingStill, still, stillOne can hear the falling snowO star of wonder, star of nightO star with royal beauty brightStill, still, stillOne can hear the falling snowSleep, sleep, sleep'Tis the eve of our Savior’s birthThe night is peaceful all around youClose your eyesLet sleep surround youSleep, sleep, sleep'Tis the eve of our Savior’s birthRound yon virgin, mother and childHoly infant tender and mildSleep, sleep, sleep'Tis the eve of our Savior’s birthDream, dream, dreamOf the joyous day to comeWhile guardian angels without numberWatch you as you sweetly slumberDream, dream, dreamOf the joyous day to comeWhat child is this who laid to restOn mary’s lap is sound asleepDream, dream, dreamOf the joyous day to comeStill, still, still'Tis the eve of our Savior’s birth.
