Ode to My Savior Beginner Trumpet Trio

Brass Ensemble Trumpet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1079739 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Classical,Instructional,Sacred. Score and parts. 6 pages. Tiger Music #683926. Published by Tiger Music (A0.1079739). I have said this in the description for other pieces, but it’s worth mentioning again. I believe that trumpet students should begin performing from the start of their careers. The problem with this belief is that there isn’t much good music written for the beginners to perform. Most of what is published is “dumbed down†and doesn’t sound like real music. I have been trying to fill that cap by composing pieces for the beginners that I would be proud to perform in public. My objective with these compositions is to write music that sounds like real music, but functions within the limitations of the beginners’ trumpet skills. My first compositions of this nature were the three bird solos, Bird March, Feathered Friends and The Purple Parrot (which I let my then current students name). One of those students performed the Bird March solo at a school assembly only three or four months after she started playing the trumpet. That student eventually quit trumpet to pursue a busy performance career in theater (she was an elementary school student) but performing the Bird March for her fellow students is a memory she will always fondly look back on. That is part of why performing early in the learning process is so important. You don’t know when students will continue, and which ones will not. For those students whose trumpet careers end up being no longer than a year, the one or two performances they have in that year are all they will have to look back on. Unfortunately, those who do not perform at all will only ever remember the drudgery of pointless practice and rehearsals. But there’s more to my early performance philosophy than just that. For those students who do continue their trumpet careers for many years, the earlier performances have a mental benefit that cannot be replaced in any other way. Their future progress on the trumpet is greatly enhanced by each performance they present in the first two years of their trumpet careers.

Flights of Fancy
Small Ensemble Clarinet,Flute,Viola - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987048 Com…

Small Ensemble Clarinet,Flute,Viola - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987048 Composed by Joe Clark. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Joe Clark #2025787. Published by Joe Clark (A0.987048). Flights of Fancy came about in an unexpected way. At the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, my homeroom teacher Lisa Harris decided to host Talent Fridays in an effort to enliven the tedium and pointlessness of the ten-minute homeroom period. Various students solved Rubik’s Cubes, Moonwalked, and displayed all manner of skills. Three of us, however, were musicians. Emily Church, Cailley Culotta, and I (note the alphabetical closeness of our last names!) played flute, viola, and clarinet respectively. Now, at the time, I was unfamiliar with chamber music as a general concept and so rather than searching for a piece for us to play, I elected to write one myself. As we were rehearsing in the band room one morning before school began, my band director walked in and asked what we were playing, sounding surprised that I had written it myself. Later that year, he encouraged me to submit it to various composition contests. Thus, Flights of Fancy was a winner of the 2010 UMass Lowell CMENC Annual Youth Composition Festival. Light, burbling lines sparkle and weave throughout the piece, allowing the three musicians to engage in a lively dialogue. The piece is suitable for a variety of occasions, from a recital opener to light music at a reception. It is suitable for moderately advanced high school ensembles or any college ensemble.

Wha-Do-Ya Mean?
Small Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.835769 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contempo…

Small Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.835769 Composed by Paul Burnell. Contemporary. Score and parts. 3 pages. Paul Burnell #3074281. Published by Paul Burnell (A0.835769). A text piece for one or more speakers with optional rhythmic percussion accompaniment performed ad libitum.Where the text is presented in bold the speakers should speak loudly, giving particular emphasis to text in capital letters. Where the text is presented in non-bold smaller text styles the speakers should speak less loudly or softer. The speakers should vary the pitch of their voice throughout to give emphasis to the structure and to avoid a monotonous tonal delivery. The repeated ‘words’ instinctively suggest a repetitive rhythmic style of delivery - this is fine. The spaces in the text can be interpreted as rests. If there is more than one speaker the performers may either speak in unison throughout or stagger their entries and echo or overlap freely, but without losing the sense of the overall structure of the text. Multiple speakers may also devise co-ordination points within the piece to co-ordinate collective unisons - then drift apart and overlap again. A single speaker could also perform with an echoing sound effect that gives the impression of multiple voices. If performing with percussion, then a pulsed rhythmic style should be used. The percussion may be freely chosen - drum kit, ‘found’ instruments, body percussion, pre-recorded backing track etc. - performing in any rhythmic style, but not detracting from or obscuring the vocal delivery. Programme note: ‘Wha-Do-Ya-Mean?’ was composed in 2008. It was tested as a warm-up exercise for the CoMA London Ensemble, and then developed into a piece, first performed by Paul Burnell at Battersea Arts Centre, London in October 2008 and then included on the 2010 album ‘Sticking with Childish Things’. It has subsequently been performed by CoMA Singers. The inspiration for the piece was derived from an increasingly fractious and reductive argument between two people, where one person was overheard saying What do you mean ‘what do you mean’? This statement illustrated the pointlessness of the argument, and how comically ridiculous and meaningless it had become, and effectively ended it.
