Cello,Clarinet,Cornet,Double Bass,Drum Set,Flute,Piano,Trombone,Tuba,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1396891 By Gazza's Razztime Orchestra. By Scott Joplin. Arranged by Gary Blake Peterson. Ragtime. 54 pages. Gary Blake Peterson #980224. Published by Gary Blake Peterson (A0.1396891). This arrangement of Scott Joplin's The Ragtime Dance is by Gary Blake Peterson and is from Gazza's Razztime Orchestra's Classic Rags Collection. It is from a compilation titled Standard High-Class Rags, but known informally as The Red Back Book which was published by John Stark around 1911. This was a collection of 15 rags that were arranged for bands of mixed instruments. Based on D. S. DeLisle's orchestration, it includes his added countermelodies.  These early orchestrations tended towards having all instruments playing all of the time, and had limited expressive markings.  This version adds a tuba and a viola, plus articulations and dynamics. Much is re-scored to add variety to the repeated sections - making it well suited to concert performance.  It is set for a 12-piece ragtime orchestra: String quartet, plus flute, clarinet in Bb, cornet, trombone, tuba, piano, drum set, and double bass.

Small Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Piano,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.901455 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Robert Stevens. Ragtime,Standards. Score and parts. 16 pages. SAXpress.com #6287597. Published by SAXpress.com (A0.901455). The Ragtime Dance (1906)Scott Joplin (1867/8 – 1917)Any Saxophone Solo with pianoThe Ragtime Dance saxophone solo with piano, by Scott Joplin. Joplin wrote two works with the title The Ragtime Dance. The first, written in 1899 and published in 1902, is something like a ballet with songs and a speaking part for narrator. It was a failure on stage and is now forgotten. The second and much better known work is a piano rag based on some of the tunes in the stage show. This little piano rag is one of the genre’s most loved pieces and has been transcribed for many different ensembles. It has been used in many films, most notably in the 1973 movie The Sting. This arrangement is is for any saxophone solo with piano accompaniment and is in the original key. Parts for E flat (alto, baritone) and B flat (soprano, tenor) saxophones are included. What everyone always remembers about The Ragtime Dance is the moment when Joplin asks the performers to vigorously stomp the floor in rhythm! This is the stop-time feature mentioned in the subtitle.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Tenor Horn,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.591159 Composed by David McKeown. Easter,Folk,Jazz,Ragtime,Traditional. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6285007. Published by David McKeown (A0.591159). The Candy Cakewalk is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Trumpet and one Tenor Horn in E Flat. The Candy Cakewalk is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. The Cakewalk was popular in the early twentieth century but its origins go back to slave plantations in the nineteenth century where dancers would often compete for a prize of cake. The music was a marriage of European March and African-American syncopation and was a forerunner of Ragtime. The Candy Cakewalk is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo, some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. The playing-time is around one and a half minutes, but can be lengthened by adding repeats at the performer’s discretion. The Candy Cakewalk is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Click on the link above to hear a full YouTube performance played on the clarinet version of this duet. Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335055 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber. 22 pages. RayThompsonMusic #920917. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1335055). Satie: Parade - Final & Suite au Prélude de rideau rougeArranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet)The concluding music for Erik Satie's Ballet Parade.Other movements from Parade are available. Background info:Parade is a ballet choreographed by Leonide Massine, with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau. The ballet was composed in 1916–17 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. The ballet was remarkable for several reasons. It was the first collaboration between Satie and Picasso, and also the first time either of them had worked on a ballet, thus making it the first time either collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. The plot of Parade incorporated and was inspired by popular entertainments of the period, such as Parisian music-halls and American silent-films.Much of the settings used in Parade's plot occurred outside of the formal Parisian theater, depicting the streets of Paris. The plot reproduces various elements of everyday life such as the music hall and fairground. Before Parade, the use of popular entertainment materials was considered unsuitable for the elite world of the ballet. The plot of Parade composed by Cocteau includes the failed attempt of a troupe of performers to attract audience members to view their show. Some of Picasso's Cubist costumes were in solid cardboard, allowing the dancers only a minimum of movement. The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of milk bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). It is supposedthat such additions by Cocteau showed his eagerness to create a succès de scandale, comparable to that of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps which had been premiered by the Ballets Russes some years before, and caused no less scandal.Although Parade was quite revolutionary, bringing common street entertainments to the elite, being scorned by audiences and being praised by critics, nonetheless many years later Stravinsky could still pride himself in never having been topped in the matter of succès de scandale. The ragtime contained in Parade would later be adapted for piano solo and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece. The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showI have omitted the  percussion in my arrangement of the finale. The premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Arranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet).

The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showThe premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Acrobates (Acrobats) is no 3 in the ballet, and includes some of the odd percussion : sirens and a bottle phone, in addition to normal orchestral perc. The piece can be performed without percussion....but the percussion gives it an extra something!!

Alto saxophone (in Eb) and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q40783 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q40783. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q40783). Who would have thought that ragtime would enjoy another renaissance! But more than 50 years after the death of its main representative, Scott Joplin, the film 'The Sting' has made this once popular style well-known and fashionable again. This small selection of Joplin rags is of course not complete without 'The Entertainer'. In comparison, 'Easy Winners' and 'Rag-Time Dance' are no less fun to play, particularly since in the latter the performer not only has to play but also stomp his foot. Excellent music providing entertainment for many occasions!
