The five Chinese traditional instruments being used for this ensemble, are: Erhu 二胡 - “Chinese Violin†Yangqin æšç´ - “Chinese Ducimer†Ruan ä¸é˜® - “Chinese Lute†2 Zhengs å¤ç® - “Chinese Zither†The composition of this piece is based on the original musical materials of Bunung布農. The Bunungese is a minority group of natives who live on the island of Formosaå°ç£. Ethnically speaking, they originated from the Micronesian race rather than from the “Hanâ€, the Chinese majority who accounts for ninety-seven percent of the population. The pentatonic mode is often found in Chinese folk tunes, in which a triad chord is seldom found. However, the Bunungese actually “enjoy†the sonority (the pitch and the tone) of the major triad. The modern civilization has yet to adapt to their wild and natural style. Usually, their folk song would be a chorale led by a leading singer, followed by the crowd. In the morning, facing the rising sun, the people with their colourful clothes, gather in a circle and dance to the rhythmic music. Located in far east Asia, the Bunungese may well be the first people to praise the rising sun to celebrate the new century with songs and dances. Johnson’s Broadway 1923 show “Runnin’ Wild†to become the wildly popular and unofficial anthem of the Roaring 20’s.  An important jazz pianist and composer, Johnson was a major influence on Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Tatum, Thelonious Monk, and Fats Waller.  Arranged for a ten-piece brass choir of three B-flat trumpets, two horns in F with a substitute flugelhorns parts, three trombones or euphoniums with substitute horn for trombone 1, euphonium and tuba, the arrangement uses the original 1923 piano edition and retains the style of the day. An arrangement of the classic King of the Road for Wind Dectet.King of the Road is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road. It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, Trailers for sale or rent. This would become the opening line of the song.The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright & Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, John Williamson (singer) & Adam Harvey, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song.King of the Road was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony.The song appears in Wim Wenders's 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The Proclaimers' version is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is Roger Miller, King of Plugs.Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. I’ve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. My arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopfler’s quasi-improvised variations on the tune. Note that the guitar part is played with a Capo on the first fret so that both players can enjoy an accessible key signature. The guitar part goes up the neck, and the position numbers are relative to the Capo (ie one fret higher than if there was no Capo fitted).There are two arrangements here - one in the husky low register of the sax, to suit a less experienced player, and one an octave higher that has a few challenging notes at the top, but sings out in a gloriously powerful way. The sound clip on the SheetMusicPlus website has a little of both arrangements.There are no dynamics, but the changing texture of the accompaniment creates the illusion of dynamic changes and you are welcome to add phrasing and dynamics to make the performance “yoursâ€.The guitar part is a little challenging at speed but this will suit confident intermediate players.This enjoyable concert item has a wonderfully captivating melody that the audience will be humming all the way home...I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all  volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music.
