An arrangement of the classic King of the Road for Wind Dectet.King of the Road is a song written by country singer Roger Miller, who first recorded it in November 1964. The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a hobo who, despite being poor (a man of means by no means), revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously and cynically as the king of the road. It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records. The popular crossover record hit No. 1 on the US Country chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Easy Listening surveys. It was also No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in Norway. Miller recalled that the song was inspired when he was driving and saw a sign on the side of a barn that read, Trailers for sale or rent. This would become the opening line of the song.The song has been covered by many other artists, including George Jones, Dean Martin, Val Doonican, Jack Jones, James Booker, The Fabulous Echoes, Boney M., R.E.M., Johnny Paycheck, Glen Campbell, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Boxcar Willie, Randy Travis, Rangers, James Kilbane, John Stevens, the Statler Brothers, Rufus Wainwright & Teddy Thompson, Giant Sand, Peligro, John Williamson (singer) & Adam Harvey, The Proclaimers, Ray Conniff Singers, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim White. Of R.E.M.'s version, a shambolic, drunken, offhand rendering, guitarist Peter Buck would later comment, If there was any justice in the world, Roger Miller should be able to sue for what we did to this song.King of the Road was performed live by Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton during Miller's posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 1995 CMA Awards ceremony.The song appears in Wim Wenders's 1976 film Im Lauf der Zeit (In the Course of Time; English title Kings of the Road). It is also played at the beginning of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild (2007), Traveller (1997), and Swingers (1996). Miller performs it in the concert film The Big T.N.T. Show. The Proclaimers' version is included in the film The Crossing (1990). Near the end of their official music video, the pair are shown reading a newspaper whose headline is Roger Miller, King of Plugs.Miller's recording appears in an episode of the Super Dave TV show, where Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) sings along while sitting at a piano mounted on top of his tour bus. The bus eventually goes into a low tunnel, slamming into the piano and Osborne and pushing them off the bus and onto the ground.A send-up version by English entertainer Billy Howard was a British chart hit in 1976.A German take by the band Wise Guys exists, the parody referring to speeding on the Autobahn.

My first acquaintance with Lars Ek Hot Trio refers to the autumn of 1982. It took place in Bergen during the annual enrollment of accordionist by the name TREKKSPILLGALLA In Grieghallen where Lars Ek until now been unknown. It has become a tradition with a Swedish touch during these autumn hits. Strong names Ebbe Jularbo, Roland Cedermark, Norwegian-Swede Olaf Wernersen to name a few. But no one has so far been stormed the audience as Lars Ek Hot Trio did. To experience the original Frosini, Nisse Lind, Ragnar Sundquist represents something new and good in the Accordion music. Genuine original accordion music that we remember so dearly good from the 1930-40's and which had been lying idle since then. The above-mentioned debut has caused several national border crossings for the trio. The last is the spring tour in western Norway this year (1985), where I had the honor to accompany the ensemble from Nor fjord Bergen. An experience for both the audience and the musicians. Yet we feel the turbulence after Lasses bellows murmur down the valley-society’s country. At Voss reached climax when history's first Trekkspill-fan-club became a fact of Lars Ek Fan Club. In alternating western country natural emanation from our flower at the fjord to the mountain huge snowstorm where we stood firm on the Vika Mountain on our way to Voss. After waiting up to a snow plow and colon driving, Lars Ek experience a new Norway. These strong impression of the natural contrasts mixed with the local population intimacy and spontaneity and contact Lasse put on the idea of a Norway-LP, which therefore now been completed in record time. Finally, I would quote one of Norway's largest newspapers to: Lars Ek is the best we have heard - and seen - on the accordion. Do not let it go three more years before he is in Bergen again. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. Originating in Africa and developed in Haiti, the Bamboula was danced for festivals and ceremonies. The 11 minute arrangement has an optional cut to make it seven minutes and is scored for British brass band instrumentation of E-flat cornet, B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, E-flat alto horns, baritone horn, euphonium, trombones and E-flat and B-flat basses with parts sets in treble clef except for the bass trombone. Korofo Moussa's song:The music of the anthem is derived from a praise song for the late-1800s king of Labé, in Fouta Djallon, Alpha Yaya Diallo (or Alfa Yaya). Alpha Yaya is, along with Wassoulou Empire founder Samory Touré, considered central by Guineans to the foundation of the modern Guinean nation, in part because of his fierce attempts to resist colonisation.In 1904, Alpha Yaya was one of many traditional chiefs and kings summoned to a doctrinal conference with French colonists, who were still in the process of consolidating his territory.The chiefs each brought along a retinue for the journey; in Alpha Yaya's retinue was griot Korofo Moussa, from Kissidougou in the south of the country. Alpha Yaya arrived to the conference on its sixth day, and Korofo Moussa is said to have spontaneously improvised, along with his troupe of dancers and kora players, a praise song for Alpha Yaya after he arrived. The song began with the line Alpha Yaya, Mansa bè Manka (Alpha Yaya, mansas (kings) are not the same). According to Fodéba Isto Keira, former Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the performance took place in the building of the modern Directorate of the Judicial Police in the Kaloum sub-prefecture of Conakry.Korofo Moussa's air quickly became popular; it was sung and played by all the griots for the rest of the conference, and within a few days it was known throughout Conakry. Alpha Yaya's personal griot immediately trained to play the song. Upon the return of the kings and their retinues to their regions, it spread throughout the country.Modern anthem:Upon approaching independence in 1958, the lyrics of Korofo Moussa's song were reworked and written in French by artist, choreographer and politician Fodéba Keïta and Jean Cellier for the national anthem of Guinea. Korofo Moussa's melody was retained for the anthem. According to Keira, Keïta used the solfège method when working with the music. Keira stated that the national anthem had to be inspired by something from Fouta Djallon for the sake of avoiding frustrations and preserving national unity.

It took place in Bergen during the annual enrollment of accordionist by the name TREKKSPILLGALLA In Grieghallen where Lars Ek until now been unknown. It has become a tradition with a Swedish touch during these autumn hits. Strong names Ebbe Jularbo, Roland Cedermark, Norwegian-Swede Olaf Wernersen to name a few. But no one has so far been stormed the audience as Lars Ek Hot Trio did. To experience the original Frosini, Nisse Lind, Ragnar Sundquist represents something new and good in the Accordion music. Genuine original accordion music that we remember so dearly good from the 1930-40's and which had been lying idle since then. The above-mentioned debut has caused several national border crossings for the trio. The last is the spring tour in western Norway this year (1985), where I had the honor to accompany the ensemble from Nor fjord Bergen. An experience for both the audience and the musicians. Yet we feel the turbulence after Lasses bellows murmur down the valley-society’s country. At Voss reached climax when history's first Trekkspill-fan-club became a fact of Lars Ek Fan Club. In alternating western country natural emanation from our flower at the fjord to the mountain huge snowstorm where we stood firm on the Vika Mountain on our way to Voss. After waiting up to a snow plow and colon driving, Lars Ek experience a new Norway. These strong impression of the natural contrasts mixed with the local population intimacy and spontaneity and contact Lasse put on the idea of a Norway-LP, which therefore now been completed in record time. Finally, I would quote one of Norway's largest newspapers to: Lars Ek is the best we have heard - and seen - on the accordion. Do not let it go three more years before he is in Bergen again. My first acquaintance with Lars Ek Hot Trio refers to the autumn of 1982. It took place in Bergen during the annual enrollment of accordionist by the name TREKKSPILLGALLA In Grieghallen where Lars Ek until now been unknown. It has become a tradition with a Swedish touch during these autumn hits. Strong names Ebbe Jularbo, Roland Cedermark, Norwegian-Swede Olaf Wernersen to name a few. But no one has so far been stormed the audience as Lars Ek Hot Trio did. To experience the original Frosini, Nisse Lind, Ragnar Sundquist represents something new and good in the Accordion music. Genuine original accordion music that we remember so dearly good from the 1930-40's and which had been lying idle since then. The above-mentioned debut has caused several national border crossings for the trio. The last is the spring tour in western Norway this year (1985), where I had the honor to accompany the ensemble from Nor fjord Bergen. An experience for both the audience and the musicians. Yet we feel the turbulence after Lasses bellows murmur down the valley-society’s country. At Voss reached climax when history's first Trekkspill-fan-club became a fact of Lars Ek Fan Club. In alternating western country natural emanation from our flower at the fjord to the mountain huge snowstorm where we stood firm on the Vika Mountain on our way to Voss. After waiting up to a snow plow and colon driving, Lars Ek experience a new Norway. These strong impression of the natural contrasts mixed with the local population intimacy and spontaneity and contact Lasse put on the idea of a Norway-LP, which therefore now been completed in record time. Finally, I would quote one of Norway's largest newspapers to: Lars Ek is the best we have heard - and seen - on the accordion. Do not let it go three more years before he is in Bergen again.
