Grieg: Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt Suite for Baritone Horn & Piano

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552857 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3511309. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552857). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore!Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.875871 By Take 6. By Ralph Carmichael. Arranged by Jim Fieldhouse. A Cappella,Gospel. Score and parts. 16 pages. Nefarious Music Publications #4410775. Published by Nefarious Music Publications (A0.875871). A quiet Place was written in 1967 but it was the 1988 recording, by American a cappella group, Take 6, that has gone on to become the most well loved version. This arrangment for four trombones (or three trombones and tuba) is based on that recording. In order to bring this beautiful setting of Ralph Carmichael's music & lyrics to life, sensitive phrasing and legato playing is paramount. A very strong upper register is required for parts 1 & 2 This quartet is scored for three tenors and bass trombone. Treble clef B flat parts and a treble clef E flat tuba transposition of part 4 are included for brass bands and alternative parts 1 and 2 in tenor clef are available. There is a quiet placeFar from the rapid paceWhere God can soothe my troubled mindSheltered by tree and flowerThere in my quiet hourWith Him my cares are left behindWhether a garden smallOr on a mountain tallNew strength and courage there I find Then from this quiet placeI go prepared to faceA new day with love for all mankindDifficulty Rating : advanced plus

"Go, Tell It on the Mountain" for 13-note Bells and Boomwhackers® (with Color Coded Notes)
Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Ukulele,…
(+)
Large Ensemble Bells,Boomwhackers,Glockenspiel,Handbell,Handchime,Orff Instrument,Ukulele,Xylophone - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.569888 By Sharon Wilson. By Traditional Spiritual. Arranged by Sharon Wilson Music. Children,Christmas,Sacred,Spiritual,Traditional. Score and parts. 38 pages. Sharon Wilson #6615377. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.569888). This sheet music is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. Included in this set of scores is a combined score with both instrument parts on a grand staff plus a separate score for each instrument. A note and chord reference chart is also provided. To aid in the learning and teaching of this song or for use with other instruments (such as a Ukulele), chord names are included on the grand staff and Boomwhackers® score. Lyrics are provided on the grand staff and Handbells score for sing along enjoyment or when using this arrangement as the accompaniment for a unison choir. In addition, a complete set of scores for 4 ringers and 4 whackers is provided. Though there are multiple combinations for the number of ringers and whackers needed for any given performance, this extra set of scores is specifically designed for 8 performers with 2 notes assigned to each player. For each ringer and whacker, the 1-staff score shows only the notes they are assigned. This alternate score format may be easier to sight-read since the only notes on the staff are the assigned notes allowing the player to focus on rhythm. This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers® color scheme. If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers® color scheme. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. All sharps and flats are displayed as well (shown in the key of C); a helpful reminder for beginning musicians. Notes used for each instrument are as follows: Bells ~ C D E F G A B♠C* where C* is high C, one octave above middle C Boomwhackers® ~ C D E F G A B♠B Note assignment suggestions are provided.Other suggestions and uses: * have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers®   * form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® * use as part of the music education for children at school, home, or church* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, church retreats, home school groups, children's ministriesPermission is granted to make as many copies as needed for one family, church, school, or other performing group. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Clarinet,Flute - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.763280 Composed by John Wesley Work, Jr. Arranged by Nigel Williams. Christmas,Folk,Instructional,Standards. 3 pages. Nigel Williams #3684285. Published by Nigel Williams (A0.763280). This popular Christmas Spiritual is attractively arranged for three woodwind instruments. The clarinet writing is mainly in the chalumeau register, the two flute parts are written within a two octave range. The melody is shared equally through all three instruments. Some suggested slurring has been added but there is room for the flute players in particular to decide how best to articulate the upward moving eighth note accompaniment passages. The performance duration is two minutes and the full score downloads as a set of parts. Ideal for Junior and Middle High School wind students. Large Ensemble Celesta,Cello,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Guitar,Hand Percussion,Harp,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942952 Composed by Aris Antoniades. Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and parts. 92 pages. Aris Antoniades #4996771. Published by Aris Antoniades (A0.942952). The Ritual - A Folk Fantasia (2015) for Chamber Ensemble Composed by Aris AntoniadesInstrumentation: Flute, Clarinet, Bendir, Guitar, Harp, Celesta, Violin, Violoncello, ContrabassRunning time: approx. 10'The Ritual is a fantasia based on Greek folk rhythms and idioms. The piece tries to musically depict the experience of a traveler who witnesses a pagan ritual. The strange ceremony takes place around a bonfire at a cold and distant mountain settlement. Masked people burst into a frenzy of dance and ecstatic priests pray to their gods. As the ritual progresses, the traveler’s mind becomes misty. Soon he transcends reality and enters a strange world-a world of dreams, a world of fantasy. There he discovers hidden spiritual treasures that will change his life forever. Finally, his spirit gets pulled back into his body while the natives continue their dance and end the ritual. The piece combines heterophonic dance elements (representing the secular part of the ritual) with strict contrapuntal writing, including a double canon (representing transcendence to the spiritual world).Cover Design - Dimitris I. Fl. Afl. (guit/kbd) - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM628 Composed by Alexandra Lehmann. A set of dances for flute and alto flute duet. Score. 6 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM628. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM628). ISBN 9790570485277.'Plateau of Dances with a Scottish Flavour' Plateau of Dances with a Scottish Flavour was composed in autumn 2016, Eastbourne, and is inspired by my childhood in Doune, Perthshire; as well as the Ceilidhs and Feis (cultural festival in the Highlands) my daughter, Clara, and I were immersed in when we lived in the picturesque village of Kingussie, Badenoch and Strathspey. The four dances are a celebration of my love and nostalgia for Scotland, and an expression of my family's Scottish memories. Each dance comes with a quote from my favourite poet, Robert Burns, whose insightful and sensitive observations are a poignant appreciation of everyday life. Why the reference to Scottish food? Because this piece is dedicated to my father, Papou, who appreciates a merry supper. The 1st Movement, 'To the Mighty Haggis', is a Strathspey with its characteristic Scotch snap -a short-long rhythm, as if saying the word 'haggis'; which is fitting as the Scottish bard's quote comes from his poem Address to a Haggis, traditionally said on Burns' Night. The 2nd Movement, 'The Humble Shortbread', is a Reel; as is usually the case in Scottish dances. It should be played with a slightly 'snappy', swung rhythm. 'What though on homely fare we dine, [...] A man is a man for all that' comes from my favourite Burns' poem: A Man's a Man for A' That. And who doesn't enjoy the humble shortbread? There is a more reflective, nostalgic mood to the 3rd Movement, 'Ode to the Homely (salty) Porridge'. The Air is a reminiscence of the quiet evenings Clara and I would spend in Kingussie, with our view of the beautifully haunting mountains. 'What will I get to my supper, [...] Ye'se get a panfu' o' plumpin parridge' comes from Burns' The Shepherd's Wife who tries to entice her husband back home with the promise of porridge (the Scottish way: with salt). Finally, the 4th Movement, 'Too Many Drams of Whisky', is a cheerful and lively Jig. It's the convivial merriness of being with friends and family, maybe at a Ceilidh, with a wink to Scotland's 'water of life'. 'We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne' comes from Burns' famous Auld Lang Syne: a fitting end to our musical and culinary tour of Scotland.

Piano,Voice - Digital Download SKU: A0.1069968 Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Arranged by Ashley Ivers. Christian,Pop,Sacred. Full Performance. Duration 236. Boothe Publishing #4633697. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.1069968). 1st Kings 19: Verses 11 & 12 When Elijah the Prophet of God killed all the false prophets of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, the Queen promised to kill him by sundown the next day. He fled for his life and ran for 40 days and 40 nights all the way to Mount Horeb, the mount of God. When he arrived, the Lord asked him what he was doing there. When he explained it to the Lord, the Lord told him to go stand out upon the mountain before Him. And behold the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; But the Lord was not in the wind: And after the wind an earthquake; But the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; But the Lord was not in the fire: And after the fire a still small voice. God wasn't in the mighty wind. God wasn't in the terrible earthquake. God wasn't in the fire. God was the still small voice. That is where I can find Him still. That is what makes me responsible for my actions. I have the still small voice telling me what is right and what is wrong. It is called, the light of Christ. It is revelation from God. I can try to drown it out and pretend I don't hear it. However, pretending doesn't alter the fact that God's still small voice is always there for those who will listen.

Accordion,Double Bass,Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1068910 Composed by Lars Ek. Folk,World. Full Performance. Duration 88. Lars Ek Cosmos Music c/o Musik & Underhållningsskrädderiet AB #1924309. Published by Lars Ek Cosmos Music c/o Musik & Underhållningsskrädderiet AB (A0.1068910). My first acquaintance with Lars Ek Hot Trio refers to the autumn of 1982. It took place in Bergen during the annual enrollment of accordionist by the name TREKKSPILLGALLA In Grieghallen where Lars Ek until now been unknown. It has become a tradition with a Swedish touch during these autumn hits. Strong names Ebbe Jularbo, Roland Cedermark, Norwegian-Swede Olaf Wernersen to name a few. But no one has so far been stormed the audience as Lars Ek Hot Trio did. To experience the original Frosini, Nisse Lind, Ragnar Sundquist represents something new and good in the Accordion music. Genuine original accordion music that we remember so dearly good from the 1930-40's and which had been lying idle since then. The above-mentioned debut has caused several national border crossings for the trio. The last is the spring tour in western Norway this year (1985), where I had the honor to accompany the ensemble from Nor fjord Bergen. An experience for both the audience and the musicians. Yet we feel the turbulence after Lasses bellows murmur down the valley-society’s country. At Voss reached climax when history's first Trekkspill-fan-club became a fact of Lars Ek Fan Club. In alternating western country natural emanation from our flower at the fjord to the mountain huge snowstorm where we stood firm on the Vika Mountain on our way to Voss. After waiting up to a snow plow and colon driving, Lars Ek experience a new Norway. These strong impression of the natural contrasts mixed with the local population intimacy and spontaneity and contact Lasse put on the idea of a Norway-LP, which therefore now been completed in record time. Finally, I would quote one of Norway's largest newspapers to: Lars Ek is the best we have heard - and seen - on the accordion. Do not let it go three more years before he is in Bergen again. Welcome back, Lasse, Bengt and Kalle. Bergen in May 1985 Kind regards from John Mandelid.

Bankson and K. Lee Scott. Easter. Instrument parts. 11 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #60-4011-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.60-4011-E). English. The hymn tune SHADES MOUNTAIN (K. Six stanzas of the fifteen-measure melody are provided here. Two stanzas are notated in SATB layout. Stanza 2 encourages the congregation to sing in four parts as in a hymnal layout (reproducible congregational pages are provided). Stanza 4 is for the choir alone, a cappella, in four parts. One stanza (1) asks the women of the congregation to sing with the women of the choir, and this concept is repeated with the men (stanza 3). Stanza 5 is unison, stanza 6 is unison with descant. An introduction and interlude before the final stanza round out the piece. A majestic piece, full of wonderful variety and color.Instrumental parts include: Trumpets I and II in C and B-flat, Horn in F, Trombones I and II, Timpani, Percussion (Gong/Bass Drum, Crash Cymbals, Suspended Cymbal).

A great melody with plenty of rhythmical, harmonic and dynamic interest in the accompaniment makes this a highly satisfying piece to play. There are some classical elements such as articulations, slurs and trills but the four hands combine really cleverly to create an arrangement which is attractive and appealing. It is not quite so easy however, but with practice it is really be enjoyable to perform.

Aaron Hettinga #716751. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1114907). While the title may seem unfamiliar, your audience will light up upon reaching the TRIO when they realize that you’re playing the yodeling theme music from The Price Is Right’s “Cliff Hangers†game! This traditional swiss tune is presented here in an arrangement for the instrumentation of Alford’s “Hungry Five†series of Polka band books. Each of the 5 parts receives a moment or two to shine, either to take a run at the melody, counter lines, or other figures of interest. The tuba part is mostly in its straightforward support roles, but there are some small technical challenges throughout the rest of the ensemble that will reward advancing players as well as audiences for your German band. As a performance option, you may want to consider doing a complete D.C. al Fine to extend the performance time if a single pass doesn’t seem enough. Ready to go for your Oktoberfest gig!

In the Hall of the Mountain KingGrieg BackgroundIn the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 â??1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and BedÅ?ich Smetana in Bohemia.LegacyGrieg is celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen.Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46)Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain.Holberg Suite and Misc. SummaryIt must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Griegâ??s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549560 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and individual part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3507999. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549560). Duration: ca. 3:20, Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Delicate, not very difficult - suitable for a recital encore. Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com
