Five Ragtime Solos by Scott Joplin for Tenor Horn and Piano
Instrumental Solo,Piano,Tenor Horn - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118312 Com…

Instrumental Solo,Piano,Tenor Horn - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118312 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and individual part. 33 pages. David McKeown #719830. Published by David McKeown (A0.1118312). Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United States’ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. The Rags included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite. They have been arranged as solos for one Tenor Horn in E Flat with piano accompaniment, and include all sections of the original compositions. You will download one pdf file that contains both 22 pages of piano score and the 10 page solo part. These pieces are suitable for players at an intermediate and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime solos ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. The overall performance time for all five is around 25 minutes. Teachers will enjoy using these arrangements as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. Click on the YouTube link to see and hear samples from the collection. Alto Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112352 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and individual part. 8 pages. David McKeown #714426. Published by David McKeown (A0.1112352). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This version for Alto Flute and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation. Click the YouTube link to hear a full performance of the clarinet version of this arrangement. Score and individual part. 7 pages. David McKeown #694912. Published by David McKeown (A0.1090782). The Elite Syncopations was one of many solo piano rags written by Scott Joplin in the wake of his success with Maple Leaf Rag. Published in 1903, The Elite Syncopations followed the classic four part structure that Joplin had developed with earlier compositions. In 1974 the Royal Ballet in London produced a ballet based on ragtime music using The Elite Syncopations as both the title and main theme. This arrangement of The Elite Syncopations is arranged as a solo for one Alto Flute with piano accompaniment. Both the piano and the separate solo part are included in the one downloadable pdf file. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time, with repeats, is around five minutes. Gordon Cherry #4820065. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792381). The well-known Maple Leaf Rag is one of Joplin’s early works, written in 1899. It has been recorded by countless artists and has come back into the mainstream after the Ragtime revival of the 1970’s. Joplin lived and performed for a while in Sedalia, Missouri, working at the Maple Leaf Club, from where some believe the work got its name. Michael McGuire’s 3 minute arrangement for six Trombones is for advanced performers.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.945625 Composed by Scott Joplin and Scott Hayden. Arranged by Nancy J. Brammer. 20th Century,Ragtime. 17 pages. Nancy Brammer #5999823. Published by Nancy Brammer (A0.945625). A delightful rag from Scott Joplin and one of his students, Scott Hayden. It is also called a Rag-Time Two Step. Instrumentation includes Oboe (or Flute), Clarinet, Piano and Bass. The bass is optional but lends a nice color to the piece. In concerts where we have included this rag, it has been a favorite of the audience. It is technically a little difficult for the woodwinds and it takes some practice even for advanced players. But once mastered, it is great fun to play. It is shorter than the original with less repeats for endurance purposes.

Published by Nancy Brammer (A0.945636). Another wonderful and familiar rag from Scott Joplin arranged for Flute, Clarinet, Piano and Bass. An Oboe part to replace flute is also included. The bass part is optional as it follows the piano for the most part but it creates a nice blend. The woodwind and piano parts are a little difficult which is why I have said this selection is advanced. .

Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. The duets included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite. They have been arranged as duets for one Trumpet and one Tenor Horn in E Flat, and include all sections of the original compositions. The YouTube link showcases the clarinet version of these duets. The duets are suitable for players at an intermediate and and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime duets ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. The overall performance time for all five is around 25 minutes. Teachers will enjoy using these arrangements as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.  There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203 Â

Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Folk,Ragtime,Standards. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #4896907. Published by David McKeown (A0.587776). This version for Soprano and Tenor Saxophone Duet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The linked youtube performance is the Alto Saxophone version of this duet and the repeats are omitted for brevity.Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.
