Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.12…

Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1256884 Composed by Lon W. Chaffin. 21st Century,Chamber. 71 pages. LCS Productions #850272. Published by LCS Productions (A0.1256884). Imagine a place where cultures are blended and people of all races can laugh, play, sing, dance, and even pray together.  Colores is a musical tale in which children show us how to create such a place.A child walks on to a deserted playground, looking for others.  Another child joins.  They introduce themselves and begin to talk to each other.  A third joins the conversation, then another, and another, until there is a large group of children, creating a colorful, contrapuntal cacophony of vocal chatter.  After the introductions and lively conversations, they pause to decide what to do next.  As would be expected, they decide to just play.  They run races, play chase and tag, catch and kickball, and laugh and giggle until their energy is gone.  Settling down, and wondering what to do next, one child begins singing a tune that is familiar.  …but not to all of them.  So, it’s time to teach the song to everyone. The tune is shared, bit by bit, and one by one every child learns it and joins in.  Before it’s over, their full-voiced singing creates a choral tapestry in which every child adds his or her own color to the musical palette. After a brief conversation, they add their renewed energy to the song they just learned, pick up the pace, and dance.  They twist and spin, jump and swing, making up their moves as they go along.  But, as before, their energy wanes.  This time, as they settle down, one child feels so comfortable with these new friends, he chooses to share his faith in the form of a chant — a prayer. Some join his prayer, as others add a familiar religious tune.  They pray and sing, and their separate experiences combine to produce a stirring, blended chorale.  As they finish, the day ends and they quickly reminisce about the blended experiences that are now behind them.  Before they go their separate ways, they share a moment of gratitude for the place where they can be free to be who they are, together. On a musical note, Colores combines multiple scale structures and varying types of vertical harmonies to give the piece its color palette.  Each of the five voices is set in a different mode, with different tonal centers and sets of accidentals.  The harmony combines both traditional tertian chords with secondal, quartal, and quintal structures. The colors within the music are intended to represent the racial diversity of the borderland from which the composer drew his inspiration.  It is hoped that we can learn from the example of children who talk, laugh, play, sing, dance, and pray together.  …who are grateful for the time and experiences they share.

(+)
Horn,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811182 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Justin Chiang. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. 28 pages. Gordon Cherry #5889189. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811182). Bach's chorales are four-part Lutheran hymns that were part of mostly larger works such as cantatas, motets, Passions and oratorios. There are 420 of them in total based on the latest publication by Luke Dahn from LuxSitPress in 2017! Justin Chiang has miraculously arranged 20 of these Chorales for traditional brass trio (Trumpet in B-flat, Horn and Trombone) in Volume I. They sound great and can be used for a variety of purposes including warming up the group at the beginning of a rehearsal, a recital, funeral, religious service, etc. Each chorale is identified with a BWV number, title in German and English translation. You cannot be without these gorgeous pieces. Volume I and II are sold as a set as well.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548712 Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and individual part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411731. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548712). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther arranged for bass flute & piano. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Features the entire range of the instrument. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 3 pg. Solo part: 1 pg. The piano reads from the score. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

Jmsgu3 #3412105. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548730). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther. First verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 4 pg. piano part 2 pg. violin part: 1 pg. cello part: 1 pg. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics which are essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed compositions, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Trombone - Digital Download SKU: A0.726101 Arranged by Traditional, Johann Cruger. Christian,Holiday,Sacred. Score and parts. 12 pages. Con Spirito Music #6077249. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726101). This arrangement for trombone, flute, and piano brings together two hymn tunes that are especially popular at the American holiday of Thanksgiving, but appropriate at any time of year. We gather together are the opening words to a poem written by the Dutch poet and composer Adrianus Valerius in 1597 to celebrate the Dutch victory in a long-standing dispute with Spain. 1878, the Austrian composer/conductor Edward Kremser arranged six Dutch folk songs for men's voices, including Prayer of Thanksgiving: Old Dutch Melody, with texts in German. In 1894, Theodore Baker (editor of Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians) translated the German text of Prayer of Thanksgiving into the familiar English version, We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing, that is sung today. Now Thank We All Our God is Catherine Winkworth's (1827-1878) translation of the German Nun Danket Alle Gott, written by Lutheran clergyman and hymn-writer Martin Rinckart (1586-1649). Rinckart's text, based on a passage from Ecclesiasticus, was set to a chorale tune by Johann Cruger (1598-1662) in his 1647 collection, Praxis pietatis melica (The Practice of Piety in Song), a hymnal for use in public worship and private devotions. Like We Gather Together, it is strongly associated the Thanksgiving holiday and other services of thanksgiving. Copyright 2015 Todd Marchand / www.ConSpiritoMusic.com

Small Ensemble Horn,Organ,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792548 Composed by Jeremy Niles Kempton. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 12 pages. Gordon Cherry #5008509. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792548). Chorale Fanfare opens with a stirring fanfare section. This is followed by the the composer's original chorale melody which is true in style to the traditional chorales of J.S. Bach and so many others of the reformation era. The chorale is presented in the organ, at first just the unadorned melody with each phrase adding more harmonic lines. Then it is richly voiced in four parts for the brass players. The fanfare motifs return and build to a glorious conclusion. The 3-minute work is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and would sound wonderful in a large hall or church.

Sung by the dwsChoraleThule, the period of Cosmography (and The Andalusian merchant) - a madrigal for 6 voices by Thomas Weelkes Interpretation: Iceland (it means Iceland here, since Hecla (Hekla) is mentioned, although Thule does now refer to other distant places), the period (ie full stop) of mapmaking (ie the end of the known world) boasts of its volcano Hecla, whose sulphurous fire melts the ice and thaws the sky Etna's flames on Sicily are no higher than this (this is poetic licence, Etna is actually higher than Hecla!) These things are amazing but not as amazing as me because I can be both cold and hot, with fear and with love The second verse is fairly self explanatory, although there is debate as to whether Fogo (= fire in Portuguese) refers to the volcano in Cape Verde (off Senegal) or to Tierra del Fuego. I would vote for Cape Verde since the harmony, when referring to Fogo, is probably one of the most chromatic pieces of writing in the madrigal repertoire and is a marvellous depiction of the lava flowing down a volcano.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1079077). Robert Timmers has beautifully arranged Johann Sebastian Bach's Complete Chorale Harmonizations for Trombone Quartet, Volume 2 (Chorales 146-282). This momentous collection of 434 Chorales in three volumes (volume 1 is published and soon volume 3 as well) taken from Bach's 200-plus cantatas and other choral works is a gift to the Trombone world and a major addition to the repertoire of Trombone Ensembles. This collection is the first of its kind for the instrument. The music is laid out in score format of two systems (tenor and bass) and two coil-bound books of 72 pages are provided for the performers. Appropriate for moderately advanced performers, these chorales are great for working on tonal blend, intonation, style, and phrasing. The digital sound sample below of Chorales 1-5 from Volume 1 will give you a good idea of the beauty of these arrangements for Trombone Quartet. This collection has been dedicated to the late Steve Witser by arranger and former student, Robert Timmers.

“These are written-out improvisations that were a part of the Good Friday noon liturgy at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. It is a service based on stations of the cross from the Anglican tradition, in our case, with a procession to each of nine stations. At each station there is a mini-liturgy which consists of a reading, prayer, interpretive improvisation on the organ, and the singing of a stanza of a hymn. For the improvisation, I weave in images from the reading with the hymn. For example, at the sixth station, the reading includes the phrase “His yoke is easyâ€, and the hymn is “Go to Dark Gethsemane.†The improvisation alternates between the theme from the chorus “His yoke is easy†from Handel’s Messiah and a very dark and thick chordal setting of the hymn. The improvisations are full of imagery which are evocative and emotionally charged.â€-David CherwienThis unified set represents nine Stations of the Cross, but the pieces can also be used individually as preludes, hymn introductions, or worship interludes. A special reproducible liturgy Good Friday: The Way of The Cross by Susan Palo Cherwien is also included

David Warin Solomons #3388107. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1059493). Performed by the dwsChoraleThis lovely trio is a curiously out of context setting by William Shield of words from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream In Shield's setting the three voices simply admire a beautiful woman, in enticing harmonies - a fine piece of music deservedly part of the repertoire of vocal trios everywhere; but in the play the words form part of a speech of jealousy between childhood friends and the potential end of that friendship The scene in Shakespeare's original: The fairy world - in the form of Puck - has interfered most clumsily with the passions of the human world, with the result that human lovers are confused in their loves: Demetrius, Helena's lover, now loves her friend Hermia, who doesn't love him, and he ignores Helena, who loves him but is already becoming somewhat insecure about the powers of her feminine attraction. Helena is therefore jealous of Hermia's beauty.

This is the downloadable audio file of From Depths of Woe, BWV 686 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) arranged for Brass Choir by Martin Dicke. A full score and set of parts are available on www.sheetmusicplus.com (S0.114465). This intense setting of the Martin Luther (1483-1546) hymn AUS TIEFER NOT was originally composed for organ by Bach as a part of his Clavier-Ãœbung III (Keyboard Practice III). It is a unique six-part setting in which four voices are played by the hands and two by the feet. Bach places the melody of the hymn in the top pedal part. Scored for two trumpets, French horn, two trombones, Euphonium, and Tuba, this arrangement for Brass Choir places the chorale melody (cantus firmus) in the Trombone 2 part. This part can be doubled by a French horn so that the hymn tune stands out from the thick polyphony. The original setting has been transposed down a major third. For more music and information, visit
