The music was written by Johnny Mandel with the lyrics written by Paul Francis Webster. The song was introduced in the 1965 film The Sandpiper, with a trumpet solo by Jack Sheldon and later became a minor hit for Tony Bennett (Johnny Mandel arranged and conducted his version as well). It won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Riscuote subito un fenomenale successo quando è pubblicata nel maggio 1939 come arrangiamento strumentale ed è perciò adottata come sigla musicale di Miller. Nel 1991 l'originaria versione strumentale è premiata col Grammy Hall of Fame Award.La canzone, registrata il 4 aprile 1939 negli studi discografici della Bluebirds Records (una sotto–etichetta della RCA), è subito un successo piazzatosi tra le prime dieci posizioni della classifica americana pop del 1939; in particolare, raggiunge la posizione numero tre nella Billboard Pop 100 mantenendola per 15 settimane. Alla fine dello stesso anno è collocata da Billboard nella quinta posizione della classifica dei successi musicali del 1939, dove Glenn Miller compare con cinque registrazioni tra i primi venti piazzamenti.Nel Regno Unito Moonlight Serenade è incisa sul lato A di un 78 giri dalla casa discografica His Master's Voice; sul lato B si può ascoltare American Patrol. La registrazione raggiunge la posizione numero dodici della classifica britannica nel marzo 1954 rimanendoci per una settimana; in Italia nello stesso anno si posiziona alla 74ª. Divenne un notevole successo nella registrazione di Dean Martin. Peculiaritàdel brano è la contaminazione della lingua inglese con alcuni termini in italiano. Il brano è anche una dichiarazione d'affetto per Napoli e per le sue tradizioni come la pizza e la tarantella.La canzone apparve per la prima volta nella colonna sonora del film Occhio alla palla, distribuito dalla Paramount Pictures il 10 agosto 1953. La canzone inserita nel disco singolo pubblicato dalla Capitol Records fu registrata il 13 agosto 1953, con l'orchestra diretta da Dick Stabile, agli studios della Capitol Records al 5505 di Melrose Avenue ad Hollywood. Il 7 novembre 1953 il singolo di That's Amore (sul cui lato B era incisa You're The Right One), raggiunse la posizione numero due della Billboard Hot 100. Rimasta incompiuta per la morte dell'autore, avvenuta il 5 dicembre 1791, fu completata successivamente da Franz Xaver Sussmayr.L'opera è legata alla controversa vicenda della sua morte avvenuta il giorno successivo al completamento delle parti vocali del Lacrimosa. Stendhal parla di un anonimo committente che incaricò Mozart, malato e caduto in miseria, di comporre in quattro settimane una messa da requiem, dietro compenso di cinquanta ducati. Completato quasi certamente entro la quaresima del 1792, il Requiem venne ritenuto per un certo periodo opera del solo Mozart anche per il fatto che la calligrafia di Süssmayr risulta essere molto simile a quella di Mozart: fino agli inizi degli anni novanta del XX secolo si riteneva infatti che l'indicazione, posta in testa alla prima pagina, recitante di me W.A Mozart mppa. 1792 fosse stata apposta da Mozart stesso.Fu probabilmente solo con l'edizione a stampa di Andrè del 1827 che parte dei dubbi vennero fugati: forse per la prima volta nella storia della musica, una partitura venne pubblicata con un commento critico nel quale si tentava di stabilire con certezza ciò che è certamente di Mozart e ciò che è di pugno d'altri; l'edizione Breitkopf indicò poi con una M il materiale sicuramente mozartiano e con una S quello attribuito a Süssmayr.Leggendo il testo si può capire quanta intensitàe potenza è racchiusa in questa composizione:Dies irae, dies illa, Solvet saeclum in favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla. Quantus tremor est futurus, Quando Judex est venturus, Cuncta stricte discussurus!Giorno d'ira, quel giorno distruggeràil mondo in faville, com'è attestato da Davide e dalla Sibilla. Quanto grande saràil terrore quando verràil giudice a valutare ogni cosa severamente.

He played the game and even wrote article about America’s Pastime. Sousa wrote the march THE NATIONAL GAME at the behest of Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the Commissioner of Baseball. For music and sports scholars and aficionados the years 1900-1920 are considered the golden age of the John Philip Sousa Band and baseball in America. The 1908 World Series is considered the greatest and most controversial baseball series of the twentieth century and the Sousa Band’s World Tour of 1910-1911 is undoubtedly one of the most unique music public relations efforts by a single individual to introduce the early twentieth-century world to American music, culture and baseball. John Philip Sousa’s band also served as his baseball team whenever they had a chance to play a game of baseball against another team from a community in which they were performing a concert.
