James Haynor #4852745. Published by James Haynor (A0.782310). Johann Sebastian Bach [a] (31 March [ O.S. 21 March] 1685 – 28 July 1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He is known for instrumental compositions such as the Art of Fugue, the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations, and for vocal music such as the St Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor. Bravo Bach is a medley of some of the wonderful music Bach wrote in his lifetime. Included in the arrangement are snippets from: Tocatta and Fugue in D minor, Fugue in G minor, Air on a G String, Wachet Auf, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Chorale, and Badinerie from the Orchestral Suite #2. The piece should be considered advanced in nature. It requires a strong trumpet section in particular. It is suggested that an assistant first be used to play piccolo trumpet. ( Duration 8:45 )

The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine.In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. The movie was filmed in Rio and features cameo appearances by Jobim, João Gilberto and Os Cariocas.The first performance of the song was by Jobim and Os Cariocas in August 1962 at the Au Bon Gourmet restaurant in Copacabana, Rio, at what music historian Ruy Castro calls the bossa nova show to end all bossa nova shows, as it featured Jobim, João Gilberto, VinÃÂcius de Moraes and Os Cariocas on stage together for the only time.The first recording of the song was released in October 1962 by Elza Laranjeira. Os Cariocas had a hit with their rendition in 1963.The first English-language version was by Tony Bennett for his 1965 album If I Ruled the World: Songs for the Jet Set.Here is my brass quintet version of the song for your enjoyment.

Peet du Toit #5793667. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802566). Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor, known as the Pathetique, was composed in 1893, and had its premiere that fall. The symphony is the last of Tchaikovsky, who died nine days after its premiere. A memorial concert of the work was performed 21 days later. This work of Tchaikovsky evokes much mystery as it is programmatic, however Tchaikovsky did not divulge the program. Theories of its intended program lie in its dedication, to his nephew (with whom he was said to be in love), and also in the fact that his death soon followed, evoking the theory that the symphony was a musical suicide note. Regardless of Tchaikovsky’s intent, the symphony is filled with emotion, suffering, and passion, (hence the name, Pathetique) and is at the pinnacle of music of the late Romantic period and an expression of Tchaikovsky’s inner world. Here is an excerpt of the second movement, a dance movement in ternary form, is in 5/4 time. It has been described as a limping waltz.

È la prima delle tre opere italiane scritte dal compositore salisburghese su libretto di Lorenzo Da Ponte.Musicato da Mozart all'etàdi ventinove anni, il testo dapontiano fu tratto dalla commedia Le nozze di Figaro di Beaumarchais (autore della trilogia di Figaro : Il barbiere di Siviglia , Il matrimonio di Figaro e La madre colpevole ).Dal Terzo Atto - Finale Ecco la marcia, andiamo (Susanna, La Contessa, Il Conte, Figaro; Coro).Le Nozze di Figaro è una delle più famose opere di Mozart e dell'intero teatro musicale, ed è la prima di una serie di felici collaborazioni tra Mozart e Da Ponte, che ha portato anche alla creazione del Don Giovanni e di Così fan tutte .Fu Mozart stesso a portare una copia della commedia di Beaumarchais a Da Ponte, che la tradusse in lingua italiana (tuttora la lingua ufficiale dell'opera lirica) e che (d'accordo con Mozart) rimosse tutti gli elementi di satira politica dalla storia. L'opera fu scritta da Mozart in gran segreto (la commedia era stata vietata dall'imperatore Giuseppe II, poiché attica l'odio tra le varie classi sociali). Questo è un periodo in cui è stato scritto. Eppure è solo dopo aver convinto l'imperatore della rottura delle scene politicamente più discusse che hanno visto il permesso di rappresentare l'opera.Inoltre, la scena finale del terzo atto, che comprendeva un balletto e una pantomima, si dovette scontrare con un divieto imperiale di rappresentare balli in scena. Racconta Da Ponte, nelle sue memorie , che lui e Mozart, non intendono rinunciare al finale come l'avevo concepito, invitarono l'imperatore ad assistere a una prova, dove si sono giocati quel pezzo muto. L'imperatore subito ordinò che la musica fosse reinserita.Così Le Nozze di Figaro , finita di comporre il 29 aprile, fu messa in scena al Burgtheater di Vienna, il 1º maggio 1786 con Nancy Storace (Susanna), Francesco Benucci (Figaro) e Michael Kelly (tenore) (Basilio e Don Curzio) , diretta dal compositore nelle prime due rappresentazioni e da Joseph Weigl nelle repliche. Ottenne un successo strepitoso, al punto che l'Imperatore, dopo la terza recita, dovette emanare un decreto per limitare le richieste di bis, in modo che le repliche non durassero troppo. Ancor più grande fu il successo al Teatro Nazionale di Praga (dal 17 gennaio 1787), colomba (una detta di Mozart): «Qui non sta che che del Figaro, non si suona, non si strombetta, non si canta, non si fischia che il Figaro, non si va a sentire altra opera che il Figaro. Eternamente Figaro! ».L'opera è in quattro atti e ruota attorno alle trame del Conte d'Almaviva, invaghito della cameriera della Contessa, Susanna, alla quale cerca di imporre lo ius primae noctis. La vicenda si svolge in un intreccio serrato e folle, in cui donne e uomini si contrappongono nel corso di una giornata di passione travolgente, piena sia di eventi drammatici che comici, e nella quale alla fine i servi si dimostrano più signori e intelligenti dei loro padroni. L'opera è per Mozart (e prima di lui per Beaumarchais) un pretesto per prendersi gioco delle classi sociali dell'epoca che da lì a poco saranno travolte dai fatti con la Rivoluzione francese. L'intera vicenda può anche essere letta come una metafora delle diverse fasi dell'amore: Cherubino e Barbarina rappresentano l'amore acerbo, Susanna e Figaro l'amore che sboccia, il Conte e la Contessa l'amore logorato e senza più alcuna passione, Marcellina e don Bartolo l'amore maturo.
