Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404796 By Neil Diamond. By Bob Russell and Bobby Scott. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Rock. 14 pages. Peet du Toit #987859. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1404796). James Wells, Moderator of the United Free Church of Scotland, tells the story of a little girl carrying a big baby boy in his 1884 book The Parables of Jesus. Seeing her struggling, someone asked if she wasn't tired. With surprise she replied: No, he's not heavy; he's my brother. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother is a ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969, the song became a worldwide hit for the Hollies later that year and also a hit for Neil Diamond in 1970. It has been recorded by many artists in subsequent years. The Hollies' version was re-released in 1988 and again was a major hit in the UK.Scott and Russell were introduced to each other by Johnny Mercer, at a California nightclub. Although Russell was dying of lymphoma and the pair met only three times, they managed to collaborate on the song. Not sure how many brass quintet versions of this music is available, but here's my representation of it. Enjoy!

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1419806 By Fiona Alice Hickie. By Fiona Alice Hickie. Arranged by Fiona Alice Hickie. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Latin. 17 pages. Fiona Alice Hickie #1001228. Published by Fiona Alice Hickie (A0.1419806). A piece for brass quintet based on the poem by the same name. It is a slow piece is a South American style.Based on the poem: Lyrics: 1. My roots once clung to the earth, The wind is calm the river still. As if nothing else survives. My world is empty, am I alive? From my limbs a fruit was plucked, Within its sheath my heart was tucked. Its seeds contained my unknown future, Inside a flesh so sweet and pure. 2. Would my seeds find a place to fall? Nice fertile ground so they'd grow tall. Or would they find some barren ground. Where no love or nurture can be found? Without the fruit my limbs were bare. An old tree nearby just stood and stared. Why should it stop and help the tree Who let its fruit be taken from thee. 3. About the charmer who took the fruit? Should he help to make them grow? Instead he walked right off the land. With barely a wave of his hand. He bit the apple as he walked away. Enjoying its flesh but did not stay. No care at all for the damage he’d done He took the heart from his loved one. 4. So grow another fruit you say. And yes that would be the logical way. But some trees grow abundant fruit. Small and nice without dispute. Others instead grow one to perfection. Round and sweet, on close inspection. But once it’s gone then that is all. Then no more shall ever fall. 5. I sit here on the barren hill, The wind is calm the river still. As if nothing else survives. The world is empty no soul survives. Dedicated to Ben van den Akker.

Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.999619 Composed by Peter Benoit. Arranged by Marc Goris. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 15 pages. Brassery Publications #6025981. Published by Brassery Publications (A0.999619). The Duke of Alva's entry into Brussels from The Pacification of Ghent, duration : 2 min music : Peter Benoit arr. : Marc Goris Peter Benoit composed music based on the historical drama with the title 'De Pacificatie van Gent' by Emiel Van Goethem. Because of the combination of drama and music he defined the piece as a lyrical drama. He completed The Pacification of Ghent on 11 July 1876, the world premiere happening on 3 September at the Ghent Municipal Theatre. On 8 November 1576 a treaty was proclaimed from the balcony of the city hall in Ghent between the different regions of the southern and the northern Netherlands. This Pacification of Ghent occurred after the revolt against the Spanish occupation of Philip the Second and was the great ideal of William of Orange: he was striving for unity in the seventeen provinces in the Netherlands as well as for freedom of religion. Furthermore the treaty stipulated that the Spanish troops were to be removed from the Netherlands. Although this treaty was observed for only three years, the Pacification was embellished with a mythical aura in the Flanders of the 19th century. King Philip II sent the Duke of Alva to Brussels on 22 August 1567, at the head of a powerful army. On arrival, Alva replaced Margaret of Parma, the sister of the Spanish king, as head of the civil jurisdiction. He decided that the local nobility was in open rebellion against the king and supported the new Protestant teachings, heresy in his view. A few days later, on 5 September 1567, Alva established the Council of Troubles, popularly known in the Netherlands as the Court of Blood, to prosecute those responsible for the riots of 1566, especially those who were deemed heretics. Alba also targeted the local Catholic nobility, who favoured dialogue and opposed outside intervention. Two of the three heads of the Flemish nobility, the Count of Egmont, a Catholic General for Philip II, who had led the cavalry that defeated the French at the Battle of San Quentin, and Philip de Montmorency, Count of Horn, were arrested. The court sentenced both counts to death. The Major of Antwerpen, Anthony van Stralen, Lord of Merksem and Jan van Casembroot were other famous victims of the bloody repression, along with a large group of other heretics. The condemned persons were executed on 5 June 1568 in the Town Hall Square in Brussels. Alva had little confidence in Flemish justice, which he perceived as sympathetic to the defendants, and witnessed the executions in person.

Item Number: H0.564555-SC001235942<br> <br> This is a brand new arrangement for Brass quintet and percussion (optional). The arrangement will work perfectly without the percussion but may sound much more shocking with the addition of two percussionists (timpani and cymbals). This music suits well on weddings, receptions and events and film music concerts. This music causes superb emotional impact on the public for being of extreme beauty and simplicity. Your Brass quintet will love to play this arrangement.<br> <br> Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1461113). First: Yes, I know there's supposed to be an umlaut. It's a pain to track down on an English system, and the software didn't produce the umlaut A the way it was supposed to. Use your imagination. If you've ever been to the Munich (Munchen, auch mit umlaut) Oktoberfest, this song is everywhere (as it is with most Oktoberfest celebrations everywhere). But it's always a part of the program at the Munich Hofbrauhaus. The song was written in Berlin in 1935. Wilhelm Wiga Gabriel wrote other songs as well, mostly for the Nazis. So he's pretty much written out of history and his work appropriately relegated to the dustbin of the ages.If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 Arranged from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 20, this is a simple but interesting work in two movements showing the composers sense of humor. The first movement Allegro ma non troppo and the second movement Tempo di Menuetto are both in the key of G. Both Sonatas 19 and 20 (op. 49, No. 1 & 2) are named Easy Sonatas because they are technically easier than the usual Beethoven Sonatas. This makes them very popular among students and teachers alike. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna the rest of his life. In his late 20s it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies therefore belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.

In 1880, Edvard Grieg composed twelve songs based on the poetry of A.O. Vinje. Two of those he arranged for string orchestra as Two Elegiac Melodies. Four years later Grieg composed a five-piece suite to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ludvig Holberg, the Norwegian-born writer who played a major role in the founding of Danish literature. Originally written for piano, Grieg soon arranged From Holberg?s Time for string orchestra. Nearly one hundred years later, Kathryn Forbes? novel, Mama?s Bank Account, was published, recounting the tale of a Norwegian family living in San Francisco in the early Twentieth Century. Forbes? book inspired a number of dramatic presentations, Broadway and Hollywood productions. Most relevant to ?Two By Grieg,? however, was Mama, a TV series CBS launched in 1949 that ran for eight years. This weekly half-hour program used two Grieg compositions as themes: ?Sarabande? from Holberg Suite and ?The Last Spring? from Two Elegiac Melodies. For many viewers, this was the first time they had ever heard these beautiful songs, and the two melodies have been forever linked thereafter. ?Sarabande? and ?The Last Spring? are the compositions that comprise ?Two By Grieg.? This arrangement is based on Grieg?s string orchestration and stays as close as possible to the original. Completed in 2016, this arrangement runs about 7 minutes, 3 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1377195). Chattanooga Choo Choo is a 1941 song written by Mack Gordon and composed by Harry Warren. It was originally recorded as a big band/swing tune by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra and featured in the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade. It was the first song to receive a gold record, presented by RCA Victor in 1942, for sales of 1.2 million copies. The song opens up with the band, sounding like a train rolling out of the station, complete with the trumpets and trombones imitating a train whistle, before the instrumental portion comes in playing two parts of the main melody. This is followed by the vocal introduction of four lines before the main part of the song is heard. The main song opens with a dialog between a passenger and a shoeshine boy:Pardon me, boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo?Yes, yes, Track 29!Boy, you can give me a shine. Can you afford to board the Chattanooga Choo Choo?I've got my fare, and just a trifle to spare. The singer describes the train's route, originating from Pennsylvania Station in New York and running through Baltimore to North Carolina before reaching Chattanooga. He mentions a woman he knew from an earlier time in his life, who will be waiting for him at the station and with whom he plans to settle down for good. After the entire song is sung, the band plays two parts of the main melody as an instrumental, with the instruments imitating the WHOO WHOO of the train as the song ends. Here's my representation thereof with Sam Harrill's nifty percussion score supporting it.

I Have a Little Jingle Dreidel-Arranged for Brass Quintet by Jari Villanueva I Have a Little Dreidel (also known as the Dreidel Song) is a children?s traditional Hanukkah song. This popular melody is combined with the traditional holiday tune of Jingle Bells written by James Pierpont in the 1850s. This fun arrangement by Jari Villanueva captures the flavor of the original tunes and would be a great selection for a holiday concert or as a special presentation around Christmas and Hanukkah. Included is a Full Score, 2 Trumpets in Bb, Horn in F, Trombone and Tuba. Also included are substitute parts for Eb Horn and Baritone TC A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. His arrangements are played by brass quintets all over the country including many military groups. Many of his arrangements can be found on Sheet Music Plus and JV MUSIC.

Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, Op. 214, is a polka written by Johann Strauss II in 1858 after a successful tour of Russia where he performed in the summer concert season at Pavlovsk, Saint Petersburg. The title may be interpreted as "Chit-chat" and may refer to the Viennese passion for gossip. Strauss may also have been referencing the single act burlesque "Der Tritsch-tratsch" (with music by Adolf Müller, Sr.) by the famous Austrian dramatist and actor Johann Nestroy, which premiered in 1833 and was still in the stage repertoire when the polka was written. Many point out that the title may also have meant his first wife's (Henrietta Treffz) poodle, also named Tritsch-tratsch, but this etymology remains unsubstantiated as well. The mood of the piece is jaunty and high-spirited, as were many of Strauss' polkas. This arrangement for brass quintet includes the following parts: Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba.

Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768520 Composed by Victor Ewald. Arranged by Roar Kvam. 20th Century. 204 pages. KVAMusic Edition #6424311. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768520). Victor Ewald 27 November 1860 - 16 April 1935 Ewald was a Russian composer of music, mainly for conical brass instruments. He was born in Saint Petersburg and died in Leningrad. He also collected and published Russian folk songs. Ewald’s professional life, like that of many of his musical contemporaries, was in an entirely different field; that of a civil engineer, in which he excelled, being appointed in 1900 as professor and manager of the Faculty of Construction Materials at the Institute of Civil Engineers. Brass players however are indebted to him for something very different – a series of quintets which have become a staple of the repertoire and which represent almost the only, and certainly the most extended examples of original literature in the Romantic style. Ewald’s formal musical training began in 1872 when he enrolled at the St Petersburg Conservatory at the age of twelve. Founded in 1861 by Anton Rubenstein, this institution was the first of its kind in Russia and it was here that Ewald received lessons in cornet, piano, horn, cello, harmony and composition. As an adult he worked alongside fellow musical nationalists known collectively as the Mighty Handful-Borodin, Mily Balakirev, CeÌsar Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and the most famous of all, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. All of these men had day jobs in non-musical fields.Ewald’s contributions as a composer reflected an abiding love for brass instruments for which he wrote his quintets scored originally for two cornets, alto horn, baritone horn and tuba. I've edited these four quartets using Ewald's original instrumentation, but there are also separate substitute parts for the modern brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn in F, trombone and tuba). Aria from the Opera Orfeo ed Euridice for Brass Quintet (French Horn solo)

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1446054 Composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck,. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Opera. 16 pages. Keith Terrett #1025876. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1446054). Orfeo ed Euridice is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing. The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama. The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Variations on its plot—the underground rescue mission in which the hero must control, or conceal, his emotions—can be found in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Wagner's Das Rheingold.Though originally set to an Italian libretto, Orfeo ed Euridice owes much to the genre of French opera, particularly in its use of accompanied recitative and a general absence of vocal virtuosity. Indeed, twelve years after the 1762 premiere, Gluck re-adapted the opera to suit the tastes of a Parisian audience at the Académie Royale de Musique with a libretto by Pierre-Louis Moline. This reworking was given the title Orphée et Eurydice, and several alterations were made in vocal casting and orchestration to suit French tastes.Ther picture is Count Francesco Algarotti, an Italian polymath, philosopher, poet, essayist, anglophile, art critic and art collector. He was a man of broad knowledge, an expert in Newtonianism, architecture and opera. He was a friend of Frederick the Great and leading authors of his times: Voltaire, Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, Marquis d'Argens, Pierre-Louis de Maupertuis and the atheist Julien Offray de La Mettrie. Lord Chesterfield, Thomas Gray, George Lyttelton, Thomas Hollis, Metastasio, Benedict XIV and Heinrich von Brühl were among his correspondents.''The Sicilienne and Rigaudon is one of the many pieces that violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler composed in the style of other composers. When he first presented and published these pieces, he offered them as recently discovered works by those other composers, newly adapted and arranged by himself. In the case of Sicilienne and Rigaudon, it is eighteenth-century French violinist/composer François Francoeur whose name is on the title sheet, though the piece really has nothing to do with Francoeur's style. The piece is a simple and a charming one, however. The Sicilienne is a binary-form miniature that sweeps along on a characteristic dotted rhythm, with a rather melancholy melody. Think old French ballet. The constant 16th notes of the Rigaudon, give it a character quite unlike that of a traditional rigaudon-a cheerful Baroque dance movement in duple meter.

I wanted to challenge myself with these various styles while infusing the quirkiness of Thomas into the heart of the piece.I. HipThis summer I was able to pass through New York City on my way to a graduate school audition. On the train ride there I ended up next to a kid who was grooving to music I could hear snippets of through his headphones. This movement reflects characteristics of the sounds I heard on my way into the city.II. One for the lovebirds…It’s time to cuddle up next to your partner and take a trip down memory lane. This movement is an ode to the slow songs one may have experienced from a dance in the 1950’s.III. SwungFor quite some time I have been intrigued with early instrumental dances and this movement explores their defining characteristics while hinting at this work’s overall structure.IV. Posh, Prim, and ProperThis axiomatic propinquity of the Minuet and Trio is a coruscating combination of tonal and temporal creation. A suite as brilliant as this is but an inchoate one without homage to music’s finest moment. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158388). My wife’s from-scratch cinnamon rolls are famous throughout our community—especially among our children’s circle of friends. While enjoying a socially-distanced church service at home on Easter Sunday, there was a batch of those butterfly-inducing cinnamon rolls baking in the new oven. They filled the home with an exquisite aromatic delight. Then the magic motif chimed: “The food is done!†I happened to have my composition notebook with me, and the little four-note tune inspired this composition. It just naturally took me in some happy musical directions, and within a minute or two, the melodic content, replete with fun-filled, muted second-trumpet echoes, was scrawled down. The next day, the music was entered into the computer. It is interesting that I gave the horn the cliché off-beats that all hornists know and love so well. Funny, I usually pride myself on writing for horn as an equal musical instrument; however, this fun, happy melody just demanded an “um-pah†accompaniment. Hopefully there is enough variety to keep the part fun to play. It helps that the piece is only two minutes and something long. The transition into the B section almost wrote itself, modulating to the relative minor. There I paused briefly, wondering how to treat a minor section in such an exuberant piece. Oh, but inspiration continued to flow, and I resumed writing in earnest with a mischievous smile! This section beautifully portrays a naughty, sneaky kid tiptoeing into the kitchen for another cinnamon roll—forbidden until after dinner! The listener can hear the kid’s nervous fluttering heart, and moments of pulling his hand back in startled impishness, and even shuddering as he looks fearfully over his shoulder. At the end of the B section, he gets caught! Witnessing that low-hanging head and puppy dog eyes, mommy finds that she can’t scold the lad too severely. “After dinner, little one…†she reprimands with an understanding grin. The jubilant melody returns to round out the work’s ternary ABA form, though this time with a very sticky Ives-esque climax, reminiscent of a gooey cinnamon roll mess. Too enjoyable to be bothered by prospects of cleaning up, the music shrugs it off with flippant ragtime syncopations, and ends with the “hic-burp†of a very satisfied tummy.

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549857 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Easter,Sacred,Wedding. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #3556935. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549857). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Program this for church services during Easter or as a recital encore. Also great for Weddings. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – like the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the guards singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears; it catches the listener off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First, Johann Sebastian Bach may be the greatest composer in music history. Indeed, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. People are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. His most famous vocal works seem to include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most notable are the St. John Passion and, indeed, the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and, above all, composers. Consequently, he first of all pursued a career as a church organist. As a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. He worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen for a while. Here, he probably developed his organ style and, likewise, his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here, he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his unique style. This new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach's works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â

Sweetwater Brass Press #893335. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1303802).     A song learned in primary school years and years ago had words something along the lines of the following:         Oh! I’m a young musician,         From distant lands I come.         Singing and playing,         Ever I’m straying.    Also known as “I Am a Fine Musician,†“I Am a Gay Musician†and perhaps other titles, that song is still around and has evolved into many different versions. The original was probably a German folk song from the early 1800s. As published in an 1889 collection of children’s songs, it bears the title, “Ich bin ein Musikant.â€Â That translates as “I am a musician.â€Â In the lyrics the musician claims to be “from Schwabenland†(Swabia) and to play geige (violin: “Dide schum schum schumâ€), flöte (flute: “Päde wäpp päpp päppâ€) and basse (bass: “Dide schum schum schump, päde wäpp päpp päpp). Later versions list the instruments played by the musician as bassoon, bells, clarinet, drum, guitar, piano, piccolo, triangle, trombone, trumpet, tuba, tympani, viola and just about every instrument and noisemaker you can think of.     Anyway, that’s the tune on which “The Brass Player†was built. But here, the musician is concerned only with brass. Which brass? Well, possibly trumpet. Or maybe horn in F. Or trombone. Or tuba. Or perhaps all four; certainly, all are featured in this piece.    “The Brass Player†comprises four sections. The first is in the key of C major and is played at a moderate 2/4 tempo. After a brief Trumpet/Tuba ostinato, Trombone introduces the main theme. Other instruments join in and play around with a variation or two.     The second section is a sweet, nostalgic rendition in 4/4 carried mainly by Horn in F, with help from Trumpets and Trombone.     In section three, the mood changes radically. Time signature goes to 3/4; tempo speeds up to vivace and the key changes to B Minor. All five instruments participate, and some odd things take place rhythmically at I through K (measures 200 through 262), but Tuba seems to carry the melody most of the time.    Section four, in G Major, clips along at a fast 4/4 time. It returns to the main theme and (as in “Ich bin ein Musikant†and its multitudinous derivations) presents in call-and-response form. The first few measures are straight, but discord quickly creeps in. The melody begins to include smears, flutter tonguing and off-beat rhythmic figures. There is even a brief section in G Minor. Gradually, order and theme are restored and the piece ends in a glorious, upbeat statement.    This piece, completed in 2023, consists of 398 measures, a little over nine minutes in length. There are four changes of key and four changes of time signature. Trumpet 1’s highest note is A above its staff; Trombone’s is F above the staff. Trumpet 2 has a few G-below-its-staff notes.    The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Contact him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.

The young Eubie taught himself the organ after his parents put a $75 organ in their home for 25 cents per week (which would take them almost 6 years to pay off). By the age of 15 was playing piano in Baltimore's night clubs, holding a regular job at Agnes Shelton's sporting house. Blake was already an exceptional pianist by the early 1900's, and he had to simplify his music drastically to get it published. Blake was among the pioneers of ragtime, however he was often too far ahead of his time. He released two rags (Charleston Rag and his Baltimore Buzz) in the same year which Scott Joplin released his Maple Leaf Rag. Unfortunately for Blake, the competition was too strong. Part of the reason for Blake's Charleston Rag and his Baltimore Buzz not making the big time may have been due to Blake the progressive nature of his sound. People found it hard to digest his music, especially the publishers. Bugle Call Rag was composed in 1916 with Carey Morgan. It was one of many patriotic selections written by composers during the World War I era. This delightful piece uses bugle calls and quotes There’ll Be A Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight.A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and a student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802677 Composed by Allesandro Marcello. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Baroque. Score and parts. 11 pages. Peet du Toit #6361995. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802677). Born in Venice, Marcello was the son of a senator. As such, he enjoyed a comfortable life that gave him the scope to pursue his interest in music. He was a contemporary of Tomaso Albinoni. He held concerts in his hometown and also composed and published several sets of concertos, including six concertos under the title of La Cetra (The Lyre), as well as cantatas, arias, canzonets, and violin sonatas. Marcello, being a slightly older contemporary of Antonio Vivaldi, often composed under the pseudonym Eterio Stinfalico, his name as a member of the celebrated Arcadian Academy (Pontificia Accademia degli Arcadi). He died in Padua in 1747.Alessandro's brother was the more well-known Benedetto Marcello, also a composer.Although most of his works are infrequently performed today, Marcello is regarded as a very competent composer. His La Cetra concertos are unusual for their wind solo parts, concision and use of counterpoint within a broadly Vivaldian style, according to Grove, placing them as a last outpost of the classic Venetian Baroque concerto.[citation needed]The Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D minor op. 1, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo. Perhaps his best-known work. Its worth was affirmed by Johann Sebastian Bach who transcribed it for harpsichord (BWV 974). A number of editions have been published, including an edition in C minor because the baroque oboe played a whole tone lower than the modern oboe. Here is a take on brass instruments, with a basic or an advanced version for the euphonium soloist. Enjoy!

Brass Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1377441 By Parry Library. By Christoph Gluck. Arranged by Norman Richardson (Arranger) Peet du Toit (Orchestrator). Classical. 21 pages. Peet du Toit #962034. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1377441). Christoph Willibald Gluck was a composer of the Early Classical period and a main contributor to the opera reform. During the Enlightenment, society as well as the arts was affected. Public concerts became popular and music was able to be enjoyed by anyone not just the upper class. Gluck himself made changes to the opera during the early classical period. Gluck’s goal was to write music that was simple yet beautiful – he didn’t want to take away from the drama of the opera. He achieved this goal in one of his most famous operas Orfeo ed Euridice and his simplistic musical style can be seen in the aria Che faro senza Euridice.Herewith then a brass quintet rendition thereof with the French horn as solo instrument for your enjoyment.

Baroque,Christian,Classical,Contest,Festival,Sacred. 37 pages. Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers #6508047. Published by Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers (A0.918899). Originally composed for organ, this ricercar by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is here arranged for Brass Quartet, Brass Quintet, or Brass Choir/Ensemble with optional keyboard. Your audience and parishioners will be moved by the deeply reverent nature of this work. It is an excellent work for any concert or for more advanced ensembles in educational settings. As a prelude to a worship service it will prepare the hearts of your parishioners to hear the Word of God. Beginning with an ascending chromatic theme, Pachelbel crafts a six-minute work in three parts. In the second part he inverts the theme. In the third part he introduces a third theme and then combines it with the first two. Although this work is not as well-known as the Canon in D Major, it is equally as skillful and shows that Pachelbel was not only a master of the Baroque, but also of Renaissance counterpoint. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1460790 Composed by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by Will Corbin. Broadway,Musical/Show,Pop. 22 pages. Will Corbin #1039689. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1460790). Here's a chirpy little song from Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1949 production of South Pacific, also mildly mashed up with another song, Bali Hai, from the same production. Lots of covers, from Ella Fitzgerald to a Brit punker who called himself Captain Sensible. (He was sensible enough to spend two weeks at the top of the UK singles list with his version in 1982.)This song draws some criticism from the politically correct for its pidgin English lyric (it's sung by a Polynesian woman in the musical). No lyrics here, just an amusing and fairly simple tune for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. If you need other instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Brass Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1372446 By Solo Trumpet Player. By Franz Schubert. Arranged by ed. W Beeler & orchestration by Peet du Toit. Classical. 4 pages. Peet du Toit #956746. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1372446). Franz Peter Schubert (German: [fÊants ˈpeËtÉ ËˆÊƒuËbÉt]; 31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828) was an Austrian composer of the late Classical and early Romantic eras. Despite his short life, Schubert left behind a vast oeuvre, including more than 600 secular vocal works (mainly lieder), seven complete symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music, and a large body of piano and chamber music. His major works include the art songs Erlkönig, Gretchen am Spinnrade, Ave Maria; the Trout Quintet, the unfinished Symphony No. 8 in B minor, the Great Symphony No. 9 in C major, the String Quartet No. 14 Death and the Maiden, a String Quintet, the two sets of Impromptus for solo piano, the three last piano sonatas, the Fantasia in F minor for piano four hands, the opera Fierrabras, the incidental music to the play Rosamunde, and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin, Winterreise and Schwanengesang.Born in the Himmelpfortgrund suburb of Vienna, Schubert showed uncommon gifts for music from an early age. His father gave him his first violin lessons and his elder brother gave him piano lessons, but Schubert soon exceeded their abilities. In 1808, at the age of eleven, he became a pupil at the Stadtkonvikt school, where he became acquainted with the orchestral music of Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven. He left the Stadtkonvikt at the end of 1813 and returned home to live with his father, where he began studying to become a schoolteacher. Despite this, he continued his studies in composition with Antonio Salieri and still composed prolifically. In 1821, Schubert was admitted to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performing member, which helped establish his name among the Viennese citizenry. He gave a concert of his works to critical acclaim in March 1828, the only time he did so in his career. He died eight months later at the age of 31, the cause officially attributed to typhoid fever, but believed by some historians to be syphilis.Appreciation of Schubert's music while he was alive was limited to a relatively small circle of admirers in Vienna, but interest in his work increased greatly in the decades following his death. Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms and other 19th-century composers discovered and championed his works. Today, Schubert is ranked among the greatest composers in the history of Western classical music and his work continues to be admired and widely performed.
