Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Marches (Complete) - Georg Philipp Telemann - Brass Quintet, Timpani - Intermediate - Digital Download.Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by Regis Bookshar to be played by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been arranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchased individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library, but this complete set of all twelve would be fabulous. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangements are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after playing through them, making them much easier for most high school students.This selection, Heroic Music - A Suite of Twelve Marches (Complete), is arranged for a Brass Quintet with some selections having a Timpani. This song starts with the narrator/lyricist saying that he overheard a guy at the train station trying to say farewell to his girl. Â The guy would kiss her, bid her adieu, get on the train, then get off and do the whole thing over again. Â And, he did this seven times! Â What would he say to her each time? Â Heâ€™d tell her that heâ€™s leaving, that she shouldnâ€™t cry, that heâ€™ll write and that if she does not hear from him she should assume heâ€™s been arrested. Â What a romantic line!Â Â Â Anyway, thatâ€™s the gist of the â€œToot, Toot, Tootsie!â€ lyrics. Â Credited to Gus Kahn, Ernie Erdman and Dan Russo, New York Cityâ€™s Leo Feist, Inc. first published this upbeat, leave-taking song in 1922. Â It had been one of 29 numbers featured in the 1921 Broadway production Bombo, a vehicle designed to showcase the talent of Al Jolson. Â Six years later Jolson sang it in The Jazz Singer, generally recognized as the first sound feature film. Â Additionally, all three composers, plus Ted Fio Rito and Eddie Cantor, also made early and very popular recordings.Â Â This bubbly, cheerful arrangement opens in the key of F major with a suggested tempo of 120 BPM. Â After an 8-measure introduction, the piece goes right to the familiar chorus with Trumpet 1 and Trombone switching leads and ending with a wonderful Fillmore-style smear. Â The tempo then slows dramatically for a somewhat pensive interpretation of the verse, the narratorâ€™s observations, Horn and Trumpet 1 alternating the lead. Â At measure 67 the chorus repeats faster than ever, a recommended 132 BPM, as Trombone and the two Trumpets take turns with the melody. Â This leads right into a repeat of the verseâ€”this time played at full speedâ€”and a change of key to D-flat major. Â Trombone and Tuba play in unison, exchanging the melody with Trumpets, right on into the third go-round of the chorus. It was originally recorded as a big band/swing tune by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra and featured in the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade. It was the first song to receive a gold record, presented by RCA Victor in 1942, for sales of 1.2 million copies.The song opens up with the band, sounding like a train rolling out of the station, complete with the trumpets and trombones imitating a train whistle, before the instrumental portion comes in playing two parts of the main melody. This is followed by the vocal introduction of four lines before the main part of the song is heard.The main song opens with a dialog between a passenger and a shoeshine boy:Pardon me, boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo?Yes, yes, Track 29!Boy, you can give me a shine.Can you afford to board the Chattanooga Choo Choo?I've got my fare, and just a trifle to spare.The singer describes the train's route, originating from Pennsylvania Station in New York and running through Baltimore to North Carolina before reaching Chattanooga. He mentions a woman he knew from an earlier time in his life, who will be waiting for him at the station and with whom he plans to settle down for good. After the entire song is sung, the band plays two parts of the main melody as an instrumental, with the instruments imitating the WHOO WHOO of the train as the song ends.Here's my representation thereof with Sam Harrill's nifty percussion score supporting it.

The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756â€“1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver SÃ¼ssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is no 4 of the Sequenz Recordare At 130 measures, the Recordare (Remember) is the work's longest movement, as well as the first in triple meter the movement is a setting of no fewer than seven stanzas of the Dies irae. The form of this piece is somewhat similar to sonata form, with an exposition around two themes (mm. 1â€“37), a development of two themes (mm. 38â€“92) and a recapitulation (mm. 93â€“98). It suits the brass quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled â€œSequenzâ€ (sequentia or sequence). Here is a completely different take on this well-known Christmas carol. After an introduction that proudly establishes the ?O Holy Night? refrain, a 10-measure prelude sets the tone for the rest of the piece. Then comes the carol itself. But what a special version! Upbeat and celebratory, it uses the differing tonal colors of the brass quintet instruments to create pyramids of buoyant sound, winding up with a restatement of the introduction. This arrangement was completed in 2012, and performance time runs about 1 minutes, 32 seconds.
