Dated within the last six months of the composer's life, the Ave Verum Corpus, K. 618 is a profound example of the unrivaled beauty, elegance and simplicity of Mozart's style. It is a stand-alone choral work based on a sacred Latin text, probably written for a Corpus Christi service in Baden, near Vienna. Often cited as one of Mozart's most perfect works, it’s sublimity inspired the following remarks from Albert Einstein: the perfection of modulation and part-writing, lightly introducing polyphony as a final intensification, (is) no longer perceived. Here...ecclesiastical and personal elements flow together. The problem of style is solved. Originally scored for four-part chorus (SATB), organ and strings, this beautiful arrangement by Daniel Toomey preserves the original key and markings; the only additions are the molto cantabile marking in the solo voice and the suggested metronome marking of q=80.

Between performing sets of Christmas carols at a mall on the outskirts of Tokyo, I purchased a stunning 1000-piece puzzle of Mount Fuji as a Christmas gift for my wife. She is fond of puzzles. When I started putting together time lapse videos with brass quintet music, the fast-motion working of a puzzle sounded intriguing. We had just completed a different 1000-piece puzzle, so I estimated that the completed video would be less than a minute. The camera and table were set up for the filming, and then I opened the box. The tiny quarter-inch puzzle pieces shocked me! I even let out a gasp. However, everything was set up, and I was determined to get the time lapse footage. The process took a great portion of three days. Were it not for the end goal of a time lapse video, I think we would have abandoned the cursed puzzle long before completion. We got it done on 2 Jan 2024 though, and several days later I revived a cute little ricky-ticky piece in the works, gave it a title, and completed it in two days. One key moment is a musical laugh, as if the menacingly challenging puzzle were mocking us as we struggled so long to complete it. Duration: 3:00.

The Buffalo Bills barbershop quartet (the school board) sings Lida Rose, while Shirley Jones (in the movie) as Marian the Librarian sings Will I Ever Tell You elsewhere in River City. This arrangement is built from a barbershop arrangement found floating on the 'net from a gay men's chorus, with the four higher horns -- two trumpets, horn, trombone -- providing the quartet. This song started out as an Andean folk melody that Paul Simon came across in 1969 when he played a week-long engagement at a theater in Paris along with the South American group Los Incas, who played an instrumental version of the song called Paso Del Condor. Said Simon: I used to hang around every night to hear them play that. I loved it and I would play it all the time, and then I thought, Let's put words to it.The Peruvian songwriter Daniel Robles recorded this song in 1913, and copyrighted it in the United States in 1933 during his travels in America. When Simon recorded it with his added lyrics, he thought it was a traditional song, as that's what Los Incas told him. When Robles' son filed a lawsuit, Simon had to give Robles a composer credit on the song, with his estate getting those royalties.In discussing the song, Simon always talks about it as being based on a traditional Peruvian song, and we've never heard him mention Robles. This wasn't the first time Simon got tangled over songwriting credits on traditional melodies: Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle was based on a folk song, but his arrangement came from a singer named Martin Carthy. Simon was always clear on his influences, but legal misunderstandings were a problem in these cases.Los Incas, who were the group that introduced Simon to the song, provided the instrumentation when they recorded it in Paris with Simon. Their leader, Jorge Milchberg, played a charango, which is an Andean string instrument made from the shell of an armadillo. Simon played acoustic guitar, and other members of Los Incas played flutes and percussion. When Simon brought the track to America, he added his lyrics. This was one of the easier songs to record for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, since the backing track was already mixed together - it was just a matter of adding the vocals.The title translates to English as The Condor Passes. The lyrics Robles wrote to the song in 1913 are about returning home to his native Peru.Los Incas leader Jorge Milchberg got a composer credit on this song along with Simon and Robles. Milchberg later became the head of the group Urubamba and remained friends with Simon, who toured with them and produced their first American album. >>The Wainwright Sisters covered this for their 2015 Songs in the Dark album. Lucy Wainwright Roche explained to The Sun: I chose 'El Condor Pasa' because it was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on it guitar and it has a childlike quality to it, but it also has a darkness and sadness that fit in well with the album.Paul Simon performed this on both Sesame Street (in 1977) and The Muppet Show (in 1980).

The first half underscores time lapse footage of the rapidly melting snowman, syncing precise sforzando punctuations to moments of falling chunks. The sunset remains were gleefully decimated by our six-year-old James.Shuttle from Haneda depicts a delayed return from a trip. The video elicited an atonal compositional style to underscore the hustle and chaos of a city as enormous as Tokyo, but with a lovely view of the Bay about midway through the work.Petite Wave was composed to accompany a time lapse hanging of a three-panel canvas print of the woodcut art “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai in 1831. I filmed while slowly approaching, occasionally causing a stir. The nervous flock took flight to find less threatening spot of ground to peck. The scene presented some fine opportunities for musical underscoring.Blue Snowman Group accompanies a rare Tokyo storm that dumped inches of wet packing snow. When my ten-year-old started rolling the base of a snowman, I whipped out my cell phone and started a time lapse video. Mom came out and built her own, armed with a spray bottle of colored water. The two snowmen turned blue in the cold and lived happily together for a couple of days.Autumn Fuji Puzzle undersores tightly crafted moments of puzzle-working and deconstruction.Outing in Japan was crafted to highlight key moments of a time lapse, running errands in northwest Tokyo. Many subtle and obvious moments in this work aurally augment visually stimulating moments, including blinking turn signals, passing traffic, turns, vehicle approaches, parking at destinations, and many more.

(The) Carioca is a 1933 popular song with music by Vincent Youmans and lyrics by Edward Eliscu and Gus Kahn, as well as the name of the dance choreographed to it for the 1933 film Flying Down to Rio. It was sung in the film by Alice Gentle, Movita Castaneda and Etta Moten and danced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as part of an extended production dance number illustrating the ballroom dance. The dance, which was choreographed by the film's dance director, Dave Gould, assisted by Hermes Pan, was based on an earlier stage dance with the same name by Fanchon and Marco.The word Carioca refers to inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro.Astaire and Roger's short dance has historical significance, as it was their first screen dance together. Though billed fourth and fifth, many felt they stole the film, which became a big hit for RKO. The song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 7th Academy Awards, but lost to an even bigger Astaire and Rogers production number, The Continental from The Gay Divorcee (1934), their next film together and their first starring vehicle. They were billed by RKO as The King and Queen of 'The Carioca.'While the song has become a jazz standard, the dance did not have longevity. Following the success of Flying Down to Rio, an attempt was made to propagate it as a new ballroom dance, without much success. It was a mixture of samba, maxixe, foxtrot and rhumba. The distinctive feature of the dance â?? at least as portrayed in the movie â?? was that it was to be danced with the partners' foreheads touching.A French cover of the song was introduced in the comedy movie La Cité de la Peur (1994) along with a dance, also meant in a humoristic way. Both the song and the dance appear in the film that takes place in Cannes during the Cannes film festival in France, and have become a reference for a whole generation in France. 25 years later, in May 2019, the Carioca scene of the movie was celebrated in Cannes with a flashmob dance and by the actors themselves who danced again the mythic scene included in La Cité de la Peur.

Rückert-Lieder (Songs after Rückert) is a collection of five Lieder for voice and orchestra or piano, based on poems written by Friedrich Rückert. The first four songs were premiered on 29 January 1905 in Vienna, Mahler himself conducting, together with his Kindertotenlieder (also on poems by Rückert). The set of songs was not intended as a cycle: the Lieder were originally published independently from each other, connected only by the poetry and common themes. However, they were later published together and most often have been performed together and come to be known as the Rückert-Lieder, although Mahler did set more texts of Rückert. This arrangement for brass quintet puts the singer's part for flugelhorn solo with the rest of the ensemble playing an adaption of the original's orchestra accompaniment. Using combination of mutes and open playing this arrangement archieves a differentiated sound that makes the complicated late-romantic harmony and counterpoint work really well in the stripped-down instrumentation.
