DanJonesGuitarist #652787. Published by DanJonesGuitarist (A0.1048353). This classic song was composed in 1930 and has become best associated with the single by Ray Charles, recorded in 1960. Ray Charles’ version reached number 1 in the Billboard chart that same year. My solo arrangement is designed for more experienced players. This download gives you a version with just notes and a second with notes and TAB. Both versions also have chord symbols in case players wish to improvise around the sequence. Writers have speculated that the song was written about Carmichael’s sister, named Georgia, but the writer himself state it was inspired by the US state. In 1979 the song was officially designated as the State Song of Georgia. It is perhaps this ambiguity and possible double-meaning of the lyric which make it so alluring. I was introduced to Georgia by a primary school music teacher in the 1970’s. I remember it having a profound impact on me as a child. It is for this reason that I love to play this version for audiences. I usually play the piece from a lead sheet to allow freedom for improvisation, but I felt a published ‘concert’ version may be useful for other players. First recorded by Judy Collins, it appeared on the US singles chart during the fall of 1968. The next year it was included on Mitchell's album Clouds, and became one of her best-known songs. It has since been recorded by dozens of artists, including Dion in 1968, Clannad with Paul Young in 1991, and Mitchell herself who re-recorded the song with an orchestral arrangement on her 2000 album Both Sides Now.Mitchell has said that Both Sides, Now was inspired by a passage in Henderson the Rain King, a 1959 novel by Saul Bellow.I was reading ... Henderson the Rain King on a plane and early in the book Henderson ... is also up in a plane. He's on his way to Africa and he looks down and sees these clouds. I put down the book, looked out the window and saw clouds too, and I immediately started writing the song. I had no idea that the song would become as popular as it did.Pat Martino recorded a short version of the tune on his 1975 album Consciousness. I was talking to him about the tune and said I seemed to have remebered a longer version. He said, yeah, there might be one somewhere. I think he was just messing with me and wanted me to look for it. I found it as one of the solo performances from his VHS, Creative Force. As what definately feels like a gift to me, Pat included all the bits and pieces of this extended composition in his True Fire course. I managed to put the pieces together and here is Both Sides Now/Inside synced to the recording.

Scarborough Fair - arranged for solo guitar by Dan Jones<br> <br> This download includestwo versions of the score: one with notes only and the second, notes with TABbelow. Full fingering suggestions (as used by the arranger) are given.<br> <br> Scarborough Fair is a much-lovedtraditional English ballad, the text of which dates back to medieval times. Ithas been recorded many times by contemporary artists, most famously, Simon andGarfunkel.<br> <br> In making thisarrangement I am attempting to create a work suitable for the more-advanced orconcert player. My intention has been to use the original theme to construct apiece with structure and harmonic depth.<br> <br> Scarborough Fair iscomposed in the beautiful, ambient Dorian mode. It is firstly presented in ADorian and midway, modulates to D Dorian before returning to the original modewith a coda. By adjusting the sixth degree of the scale the theme is also heardin Aeolian mode.<br> <br> I am excited at theidea of using well-known themes to create a concert repertoire suitable for allenvironments and which will appeal to guitarists and non-guitarists alike.<br> <br> I have also triedperforming the piece with a capo placed at the second fret when I have felt myprogramme needed more harmonic variety.<br> <br> A film and recordingof me performing the arrangement can be found in the link given on this page orat danjonesguitarist.com.<br> <br> I hope very much you enjoy playingScarborough Fair.
