DanJonesGuitarist #652787. Published by DanJonesGuitarist (A0.1048353). This classic song was composed in 1930 and has become best associated with the single by Ray Charles, recorded in 1960. Ray Charles’ version reached number 1 in the Billboard chart that same year. My solo arrangement is designed for more experienced players. This download gives you a version with just notes and a second with notes and TAB. Both versions also have chord symbols in case players wish to improvise around the sequence. Writers have speculated that the song was written about Carmichael’s sister, named Georgia, but the writer himself state it was inspired by the US state. In 1979 the song was officially designated as the State Song of Georgia. It is perhaps this ambiguity and possible double-meaning of the lyric which make it so alluring. I was introduced to Georgia by a primary school music teacher in the 1970’s. I remember it having a profound impact on me as a child. It is for this reason that I love to play this version for audiences. I usually play the piece from a lead sheet to allow freedom for improvisation, but I felt a published ‘concert’ version may be useful for other players. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1136061). If someone is yawning saying, I'm sick and tired of playing music in the key of C Major, I want to use a scale hardly anyone uses. Then this piece is for you.1. Guitar Arrangement2. Guitar Tab3. Less stereotypical chords 4. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 5. Voice leading considerationsThe Scale I used is: D Eb F# G A Bb D. The name of it would be something bizarre. These names include: Jewish, harmonic major, or a mode of G harmonic minor. If I included a C#, it would be a symmetrical scale that can't be retrograded, adding to the mathematical mystique. An exotic sounding atmosphere was what I was going for.Tips:1. Since it is exotic, microtonal pre-bends seem appropriate to make it even more exotic sounding. That is what the upwards pointing swoosh means. Perhaps the sound of a sitar was what I was going for.2. Slides also make it sound more exotic.3. Exotic music uses drone tones more often than American music. Therefor, droning a low D made sense.4. The naming of chords would be quite difficult since it is more of an alien music language than a western one. I just left them out this time. Names would happen such as Dadd4(b9)omit3. Pretty alien chords if you ask me, and you can see that the western chord nomenclature is struggling to name it elegantly. Anytime chords are build in 4th and 5ths rather than 3rds, usually the name that results is quite complex.5. I added unisons because it makes it sound more mysterious in my opinion.

I was lucky enough tobe involved in the recording of the Inspector Morse theme for the debut TVseries in !987. Barrington said he had aimed to capture the Inspector?smelancholy by using the minor key. A brilliant stroke musically was to play onthe surname with a repeated note tapping out the Morse code. When I made thisarrangement of the Morse theme I sent Barrington a pre-recording for hisapproval. I was more than delighted when he replied:

Chariots ofFire is a classic film, made in 1981, telling the story of twoBritish athletes working towards the 1924 Olympic Games. The theme music, byVangelis, is as iconic as the movie itself.<br> <br> As a guitarteacher, I am often looking for melodies which can be played by plectrum(electric) guitar, rather than chords or riffs. This arrangement serves thatpurpose. It can, of course, be played by classical or acoustic players as well.<br> <br> The arrangement also features chord symbols. These could be played by a teacher, or another pupil. I have provided aversion in notes and TAB and a separate page with just the notes, for teachersor players who wish to avoid TAB.<br> <br> Theoriginal music is in the key of D flat major. This famous Scottish melody exists in sources from 16th Century in Celtic traditions. It is best known today when sung on New Year's Eve using a text by the great Scottish poet Robert 'Rabbie' Burns.<br> <br> I will upload a YouTube video lesson before the end of November 2020.<br> <br> The arrangement has been made with early-level guitarists in mind. The score is provided in notes with TAB below and just notes on a separate sheet in the single download. That way, teachers who wish to avoid TAB can do so easily.<br> <br> Technically, the piece can be played in second position throughout. There is also the option of finishing a performance after the first G major section. Those wanting a more substantial piece can play the second page which modulates to A major. <br> <br> The arrangement avoids unnecessary technical difficulties and therefore will make a great concert or repertoire piece for all learners.
